This album is absolutely amazing and super underrated, probably my personal favorite from their entire discography.

Love this album as I do all their albums. I'd say with honesty I don't go back to Saturday Night Wrist often or their debut. I love individual tracks but the album lacks flow and cohesion to me. I think Diamond Eyes along with White Pony and ATF are the most praised. I've never thought it was thought of as underrated. I love this album but for me Koi No Yokan is even better as it has that intensity, flow/transitions, melody, it for me is arguably their most progressive album. I think Sergio Vegas bass is so much more prevalent in the mix too which is great to hear. Abe's drumming is awesome as usual. Steph's guttural, chuggy riffs are blistering at times, Chino has his banshee vocal and his melodic, textural wail like singing on show. His shoegazy guitar playing is also there. Frank's soundscaping and layering is epic. I love Diamond Eyes but I prefer the more subtle, spacey, psychedelic proggy and less bombastic Koi No Yokan. I think their most underrated album is actually Gore as that just is too ethereal and left of centre for some Deftones fans. The mix I think is a bit weak in places I think on Gore. I honestly think that's a brilliant album and a grower like their self titled is. There are some absolute tunes on Diamond Eyes though, it's such a propulsive album. Is Diamond Eyes your personal favourite?

7:10 My favorite part of this song is that when I saw it live during their tour with Gojira they played the breakdown stop and go chugging for a whole 2 minutes straight and everyone was headbanging in sync with it. Me and a couple people around me thought they were stalling to fix a technical error or if something was going wrong but we realised it was just them messing with us

I had to go back and make sure, because i'm in the same boat and consider this one to be closer to White Pony & Around the Fur, so much so that I forgot which order they were released in.

Wow, I could have sworn you did this one from Deftones already!
This song and the album were a great turning point in the band for me, especially followed by my favorite album of their's, _Koi No Yokan,_ which has a distinctly different sound coming from them.
Diamond Eyes is a classic, and one that every new Deftones fan should listen to... after listening to all of White Pony, of course!
If anyone wants to hear a nice change of pace for the band, the song _Entombed_ off of _Koi No Yokan_ is one of my favorites. Very reserved & atmospheric, it's almost cathartic listening to it.

Love your work. I believe the metal community; as would I, love to see you review one of the most famous songs in the world of metal... Slayer's Angel of Death. I'll buy a a cup of coffee! *it has to be the original track because Tom Araya's scream in the intro is a "one and only take" meaning he was never able to replicate it, not once. And the guitars of the late Jeff Hanneman and the wicked licks of Kerry King will break your brain. I think it truly is the most epic scream ever recorded. Thank you for being an entertainer and reviewing metal. Can't get enough of it.
Oh and seeing your reaction to Tomas Haake with Meshuggah was awesome.

If you really stop to listen to the lyrics and connect the dots, this album has a story woven through it. This is a comment I found that sums the story up on this album:
On his deathbed at the end of the album, the human-turned god-turned human (Chi?) addresses his wife. The album has told us that she existed as goddess, complex priestess, DIAMOND EYES, over the Earth for a very long time before the man begged her to let him join her ranks. She let him into her ROYAL chambers, and impressed with his compassion for the Earth, made him her king and gave him CMND. He distracted her from her duties with the pleasures of Earth. She lost her purity when SHE SAW THE BUTCHER. She waived her immortality to be with him physically, and they had a son. When the PRINCE and Earthlings destroyed the planet, she was killed. Earth ROCKET SKATED into a state of hell. The only remnant of the beautiful past was the SEXTAPE. The Prince asked his father to take a RISK by opening old wounds and making an attempt at forgiveness. If the father ever wanted to forgive the son, who had committed evil, he was available at 976-EVIL. Earth was a PLACE OF DEATH because it managed to tempt and ultimately kill the complex priestess who had ruled for so long.
