  • With the basics regarding phylum Platyhelminthes covered, it's time to start digging into the clades within. Free-living flatworms were originally classified within the class Turbellaria. But more recently the clades needed to be rearranged, so instead this tutorial will focus on members of Rhabditophora. Specifically within, we will focus on clades Polycladida and Tricladida. This includes the well-known planarians like Dugesia. What do we know about these species? Let's find out!

I’ve just learnt that your a professional musician, had a record contract etc but it didn’t quite work out, nearly famous but not quite . Now your famous selling science . You’ve been on the same journey as Brian Cox , he was a keyboard player in a band that didn’t really make it, then he turned to science to become famous, what an amazing coincidence

In my opinion, worms are the most boring animals, because most animal phyla are worms

Related question on the planarians and the 279 separate part regrowth... if those 279 organisms were each cut into 279 parts themselves, I imagine they'd also grow into 279 new animals each, but I wonder if we'd start to see problems in the new generation related to any kinds of exhaustion in the stem cell lineage? If the problems didn't occur by the 3rd or 4th generation, would we see something around the 10th or 20th? (given adequate nutrition, etc.)

I am assuming that the cells (or some) are or become totipotent or pluripotent in order to produce a whole new animal. Presumably the Hox genes work in the same way as in the embryo to attain the 'nose to tail' developement?? Does anyone know? I am also reminded of complete metamorphosis where the larval form disintegrates in order to make way for the adult phase. Does the Hox system re-activate in these cases or even 1 case??
