    Poverty is common in the black community. This and gang activity brings heat on good black folk. I grew up poor as hell, and i'm white. I may not catch as much heat shopping, but i sure do on the road. I've been pulled over more than many blacks...50 times i'd say. When i see blacks complaining about THAT, i shake my head. I had a shoebox full of tickets. They always search my car, always. I went to jail two dozen times easy. Racial profiling, to me, is more about poverty than color. We poor tend to push our luck.

These stores been doing this forever. Your money looks way better in your bank account instead of purchasing an item that will depreciate, from a place that don't want you in there, so you can front for whomever. I'd rather pay my utilities up in advance than buy an item that will eventually be old news.

  • @chan13153
    @chan13153 Před 10 lety +9

    It's not really racial profiling. It's more like status profiling. This is an elitist store. There customers dress and look a certain way. They never mentioned how the kid was dressed. I'm guessing he was dressing like a normal 19 year old would be dressed. The kid they said was saving his money to buy the belt. So clearly this kid did not dress or look like the average barney's customer. He here is dressed like in hip hop fashion. Definitely would not fit the common barney customer. If this person was white dressed the same I bet they would be just as suspicious.
    This happens not only at barneys. I rmbr I wore like gym clothes to abercrombie and fitch and nordstrom and I could totally tell they were keeping a close on on meant they kept asking me if I needed any help. I'm not black I'm asian. Next few weeks I came back and I was well dressed and I did not get the same treatment. So its really about how your dress and how you present yourself bc prejudice does exist. Everyone has a little bit of prejudice in them. Walk into a store wearing a expensive well put outfit or a suit and then come back to back in dirty sweats. You will notice how different people will view you and treat you.

    • @GHOSTRIDER-mx2et
      @GHOSTRIDER-mx2et Před 6 lety

      Very well said. Theres always more to the story then meets the eye. Typical 19 yr old black kid from nyc especially brooklyn or even hispanic is going to dress street, hip hop, "thug." thats just the style and culture. He probably really wanted the belt but as soon as he walked in the store it was a wrap.

      Chan Saet. You think how the most ignorant white people think. It doesn't matter how you dress. If you are not breaking any laws and have the money to buy something, people should leave you alone. You don't have the right to assume that they are a criminal. Calling the police on someone because they wear hip hop clothes is stupid. Telling people they have a stolen credit card because you don't believe they can afford some thing is stupid. This is what us black people go through everyday. I'm black and I dress casual. This stuff has happened to me too.

    • @Yoshsterpalooza
      @Yoshsterpalooza Před 5 lety +1

      the7figuremaker “what is black people go through everyday” shut the fuck up. It seems you missed the entire point of the original comment. The point was that it isn’t about race, it’s about class. If you are perceived as being in a lower class of wealth than upper middle class due to your clothes, you might raise suspicion buying things from a high end store. Whether class based discrimination is ok is up to you but it’s not race based.
