My neighbour grew apples near Georgian Bay. He hired locals for years after other growers hired offshore labour (mostly Jamaicans). Eventually he couldn't get his crop harvested and hired offshore labour as well.
He said if it started to spit rain the locals abandoned him. When it rained steady he abandoned his hardworking Jamaicans. He never hired locals again after that.

My 16 year old has applied to a bunch of entry level jobs with no success due to this exact situation.
Incredibly frustrating.

Never got food poisoning when Tim Hortons was staffed with actual "young Canadians"- only happened when they replaced their workforce with "international students". Happened more than once at more than one location, so now boycotting Horton's has been the move.
I have not paid a nickle to Tim Hortons for over 10 years. When they sold to an American chain that was it for me. Was never that good, never heard of it IN western Canada for the first 20 yeas of my life. It's a garbage restaurant that can't even cook food in the actual restaurant. Just reheated garbage and their coffee is brown crayon water.

I do not know about anyone else but my local Tim Hortons I go to for doughnuts seems to employ only immigrants. In this guy's argument if "if their passport is expired they will be deported". That is not the case, if an employer hires an immigrant then that employer will only check for legal working status upon hire.
