    I always thought that the balisong was a consealed weapon to fool the Spaniards, because the practice of Filipino Martial Arts was banned during the colonial era.

    Balisong was originally or I would say invented in my province Batangas, the technology didn't come from any country the word Balisong came from Bali means broken then song actually sung came from sungay which means horn the first Balisong is made out of carabao or water Buffalo horn. During when Spain colonized the Philippines the first thing that the Spanish did was to confiscate all metal that is why Batangueno invented balisong out of horn.

    My in law gave me a Balisong coz my wife’s mom is from Batangas but before I left the philippines to migrate in Europe I have to leave it coz I might get in trouble from the law in Europe. Lately I visited my home back in the Philippines I cant find it anymore it has been more than two decades since I left Pinas.

    There's these Pacific islanders whose local word for Filipinos 🇵🇭 translate to something like 'one who always carry a knife 🔪' because of Pinoys' 🇵🇭 penchant for carrying blades 🔪 before the 20th century.       Lol.. i wanted to protest the utility use. As a bukid boy we always used our itak for utility. From sugar canes, coconut, clearing, to gutting and cleaning fish or chicken. Balisong was only made for one thing. Everyone in the bukid had an itak. Balisong is what we carried to self defense when in town.
