You know me lol. when i bought the saw I was wondering about the batteries but to be honest, unless you using it all day this is where it would become an issue for me it's just fine, cutting is smooth and clean and seems effortless.
@@ralphmignano215 in fairness Ralph for me it is not investing in another battery platform. Batteries always die, no matter how you look after them. My extractor is mains powered I gain nothing from battery saw.

I still think Festool could market a battery-shaped PSU adaptor with a socket for the standard Festool mains lead. That would be an inexpensive way to turn this into a mains powered saw.

I like it, I don't have the Festool saw but I want something like it for my old Shopsmith. The Shopsmith has a proprietary miter slot so finding aftermarket accessories is a challenge. Something like this I could just add to the stock miter gauge.

Not fortunate enough to own the Festool, but I’ve ordered one of these fences to use on a regular Chinese manufactured mitre gauge on a Dewalt saw. Cant wait to receive it! Top stuff as always from Benchdogs. 👍

7:00 I have a similar system and once I calibrated the first time for each of my fences I struck a reference mark across the fence and mitre guage.

Hi Peter, great review as usual, is that Benchdogs 2040 profile the same configuration as the standard 2040 profile from for instance ooznest?.

Thanks Dave. The benchdogs fence extrusion is very similar in overall size and slot dimensions, but the difference is that it has the top slot missing on the 40mm face to make a flat section for the scale markings. 👍

Excellent video as usual . Noticed at 40 seconds in you were lifting it by the table. Am sure it's robust enough to stand that safely but why can't manufacturers of heavy tools, even high end, indicate where the safe lifting points are?
There are hand-holds on either side, but awkward to reaching with the table unfolded, and it’s not worth folding the table just to lift it 3 feet from one table to another. 🤷♂️👍
Looks good! I think it’s strange that company’s like @Benchdogs don’t make something similar to the Festool CS 50 and CS 70 table saws.. I mean the slider and fence in stock form is good, but for smaller pieces, a rig that could make it closer to a sled, and with distance markings like here would improve these saws.. and there must be thousands of these in Europe alone. The CS 50 has a removable left side plate to access the blade.. A rod and a sliding bearing equipped block with a aluminium top plate would make it a small slider like the CSC 50… 😉 Thanks for always enlightening videos Peter!

such a lovely saw. I would realy love to own one as a begginer, precise and small even to work and store in the flat. Unfortunetaly the price is out of my possibilities. 2,5k€ is just too much if its not gonna pay off by itself .

You used the 100mm blank to setup the fence. Does this mean that the fence just brushes the blade to get the correct fence measurement or does it start at 1 or 2mm to give clearance?
As I say in the vid, you can set it up by using a 1mm packer or shim between the fence and the blade, or as I did, a known 100mm blank against the flagstop set at 100mm on the fence. 👍
Yep. My point was that this would cause the fence to brush the blade if it started at 0. Freezing the video (at least on the 300mm) it looks like the markings start at 1mm, solving my concern.@@10MinuteWorkshop

Yes, the fence is undersized by 1mm, so a 1mm shim / packer/ setup block is all you need to set the end of the fence against the blade. Or just do as I show here and use a block of a known dimension and a flag on the scale. 👍👍

Hi Peter, are there any concerns with moving the fence to the left so that it just clears the blade guards? That way, there is no need to set a min of 36mm for the guards to clear the fence. Thanks
Well, kind of then pointing having a scale on the fence is so that you can use it to measure the workpieces - hence the need for calibration - but if all you want to Sonia work off a pencil mark and set the flag stop for repeat cuts, then yes, you can absolutely do that. Might have been nice to have dual scales - on for the close position, one for further away - but I can see why Benchdogs went for what they did. 👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop Thanks Peter. I was of the impression Benchdogs was concerned with any accuracy issues with having their fence 'too far' away from the blade or 'losing' some distance. Otherwise, the calibration might be 50mm (or whatever distance to clear blade guards) just as the second scale you mentioned. Cheers!
Thank you for the youtube on the Benchdog miter gauge fence, but I would like a micro adjuster. I contacted Benchdog and they said they were working on it. Do you think that the Woodhaven flip stop and micro adjuster would work? It’s designed for 20 80 extrusions.

Thanks! This extrusion is a lot smaller than 8020, so can’t imagine your microadjuster working - but I couldn’t say for sure. 🤷♂️👍

I would have thought that it would be easier to read the measurements if the fence was laid flat rather than upright
You can do both but what I did do is put the number upside down so when you look over you see the numbers the right way up.
An option that is also available to you, as I explain in the video. 👍
my sliding bench is not level with the main bench so the cut is not square

With one base plate per fence, you wouldn’t have to recalibrate, right? Just switch the whole thing and go.
Yes, but I’m not sure how well the baseplate locates on the mitre gauge - or how much play there is in the hole in the mitre gauge. I have come up with a simple solution though - a little stop block in the back of the rail. There’ll be a short about it soon. 👍

I would seriously consider this if it had mains power. Not willing to invest in and fart around with batteries. Especially as I don't like/need any other festool battery powered tools.

The more I see that blade guard in action the more I think it would irritate me. I know it's all in the name of safety and dust collection but it seems so clunky and awkward, surely the boffins at Festool could have come up with a more elegant solution!
I know what you mean, but the more I use it the more I like it tbh, especially as it works well on a 45° cut too. I think a neater solution for straight 90° would be welcomed though! 👍
Festool gear is expensive but this thing takes the biscuit. Why would anyone choose to own an overpriced baby tool for the workshop. This is one tool I just don't understand.
Not my job to convince you of anything, but I’ve done a few videos about my decision to buy it - there are links in the description in you care to take a look - but it was slap in the middle price-wise of the saws I looked at. You want something else, you should buy it. 👍
I’m not an owner of the Festool mini tablesaw but welcome the design elements included within the Benchdog mitre kit. The triangle clip in part is a great solution to ensuring the safety features of the original tool are maintained. It’d be great if there was a similar solution for my Evolution tablesaw 👍🏻
