The signal BG mentioned is called a shot spotter. It was added as an update to the police cameras used in Chicago a few years after they were introduced.
It's nothing new, to certain areas that experienced it, but can be shocking to those who haven't.

They pull up the footage and then just watch and track you up to current time and know exactly where your at.
