Back in 1970, when I returned from 18 months in Vietnam, to celebrate life,I purchased a new 1970 Ford F250 4X4 with all the bells and whistles the top of the line truck. Automatic, air conditioning. Power windows, camper special. The cost of this truck was a whooping $3,670.00 dollars. I then purchased a used home in southern Califafelony, 4 bedroom, lath and plaster walls, air conditioning. Hard wood floors, 10,000 ft.lot with a three car garage, a real three car garage with RV parking on the side of the home for $16,500. What in hell has the politicians done to this country? And Nancy’s nephew Gavin Newsom wants to be president when he grows up. Hopefully that’s never!
Because millennials are so full of themselves they need to draw attention to themselves constantly and they want to be noticed and feel important, it is all about image and style with them
As a 28 year old man its so hard to get ahead these days. Somehow making 23$ an hour now is terrible. Barely pays rent and bills and foods. Let alone having 70,000$ for a truck loll
So do I. I can see a business owner or a farmer needing a pickup truck. But for someone who is just buying one for chauffeuring the kids to soccer practice it’s not worth it,
People need to just Walk Away. As long as there are fools that will spend that kind of money on a new vehicle, they will continue to go up in price. This is absolutely ridiculous.
RAM is sh... I wouldn't take one for free let alone paying 80k. I actually bought a studio flat on the beach not that long ago for 59k imagine paying 50 percent more for a junk truck riddled with problems
They're bloated guzzlers and most of them are garage queens that are hardly ever getting any cargo. And the owners go broke filing the tanks with gas or diesel! 😅
True many with means can afford them. But choose to leave that in investment. Because trucks are huge depreciating assets. I bought a loaded frontier Pro 4X in 2019 for 35K out the door. Same trim now is 50K. And even that is cheap compared to this full size trucks. But 35K is about my limit. I can afford more but I won't. Just the worst investment imaginable.
Not only does the price need to drop but the dealer small print markup/add on fee games need to go away as well. I'd wait a few years to see how well that Stellantis new hurricane motor does reliability wise before buying one.
I make auto parts for a living. Orders have fallen off a cliff the past two weeks. Aside from Covid, I haven’t seen it this slow since 2009. It’s honestly getting pretty scary. Something has to give. Peoples wages haven’t raised to support these insane prices. I’m never getting ready of my 2013 Camry. I was going to buy a new F150 in 2022 to replace my current 2015, but I decided against it when I saw the dealer gouging. I’m going to drive that into the ground and put a new engine in it before I pay prices like this for a truck.
Just bought an outback wilderness. There is no way I was going to spend an extra $30k for a comparably equipped truck. Those are the people living paycheck to paycheck.
Take care of your Outback and it will take care of you. I drive a 2012 Outback, 160 M miles, no major repairs other than an expected timing belt change, which is no longer required. I took it to the dealer and they offered me 2700 for it! They did not want it on their lot. Actual value is 6000. My car drives as quietly and strong as the day I got it. A new one is about 34000...very reasonable by today's standards. I plan on driving my 2012 for another few years.
We went down to one vehicle and will drive our current vehicle until it can't go anymore. 7 years old this week and normally we are looking to trade but not anymore. Looking at beater vehicles too if necessary. Either income will have to go up or prices of cars will have to come back down. Poor quality and higher prices are ridiculous and it's not worth it.
I wish car companies would leave the cheaper option on the market. Ford has done away with the cheaper option, Chrysler ditched the cheaper option across it's divisions. Or even have the basic as an option in a vehicle. Not everybody wants a jacked up F-150 with rims and add ons. There are people out there who want the basic truck. I know when I went to a couple of Toyota dealerships in Calgary. Almost every truck was jacked up with rims and dumbass add on. Trying to find the basic truck was worse then Where's Waldo.
the oem's and dealers were spoiled by covid shortages. now the chicken come home to roost. it is a catch 22 though. people want cheap trucks but there is no margin for cheap trucks. I am wondering how this will play out. I will keep my camry until the smoke clears. could take years.

Screw high priced trucks, for the once every year or two times I need to haul something, I'll just pay the delivery charge and save a fortune. Even if I have to rent a truck, it's still way cheaper.
i rented a 2022 Kona for this weekend....thing was a gas sipper! literally cost me 20 bucks to go on a 2hr drive....BUT when i got home and jumped in my 2001 Buick Regal GS and took it for a drive and heard the supercharger whine....i wouldnt ask for another new vehicle....to me my 01 regal gs is the best car ever and even if it costs me more in gas....it makes me more happy that anything made new today!

Growing up, pickup trucks were always the cheapest set of wheels you could buy by far. Steel cab on a ladder frame with solid axles and leaf spring tech from the days of model T and horse carts. Nothing to them, super cheap to build and buy. what on earth happened??!
Back when I bought my first home… my new pickup cost a 1/3 of what my home costed. Today, new trucks still cost a 1/3 of what that same home would cost. So, really prices are the same…. they’ve just gone up on everything.
I bought a 2017 F-350 diesel to pull my 39 ft. fifth wheel. Even then it was a 70k truck. It now has 70k miles. and needing more and more maint. The guy that owns the shop where I take it warned me about the cost of major repairs to the engine. It can cost 20k or more if the fuel system goes bad and destroys the entire engine. I'm going to take a few trips this summer and then unload the truck and trailer.
Yeah i see it all the time people buying right now then three months later figuring out they can't afford it. Then they try to sell it for what they owe and it doesn't sell because its way over priced.
How long until we see something change? I’ve been watching videos like this one for weeks and dealers are still…dealing. It sounds like doom and gloom but everything I’ve seen is still open. Are dealers staying alive by credit? How are they still open when we have 800+ days of supply for each of the Big 3’s trucks?

Monthly payments. I was looking yesterday on the internet at new pickups. It didn't matter what brand. A $55,000 new pickup. Monthly payments of over $800. Even one was $45,000. Still. Monthly payment of over $800. Average price of a new pickup. Monthly payment of $1,200. No American can afford that. Only illegals. The get from $6,000 to $8,000 a month from our taxes for free. I was thinking of trading in my 2020 F150 tomorrow. Yet. Seeing what the monthly payments are. Not on anyone life. I will just pay it off and use it as my coffin when I die.
