Wrong they are not forced. They either keep the car they have or buy used or certified preowned. They take the action run by their ego. Their ego can destroy them. Another option is to buy a vintage car for light use. If you research you can find a vintage car which is mechanically simple . No one forces people to buy cars that are 30thousand , forty thousand dollars . It is their ego that puts people in trouble.

Consumers do set the price of cars and trucks. In today’s world of the got to have it consumer the automakers are taking advantage of their ignorance. This is going to be a game of who blinks first. The prudent people who have the money not credit will come out on top in the long run . What the automakers are finding out is people are willing to file bankruptcy and walk away from their financial responsibilities. This generation has no sense of responsibility or the idea of the consequences for their actions. The banks are not going to be the scapegoats for the automakers anymore. Cash is real money. Credit is the illusion of money.

One problem with Jeeps is they reek of "off roading." Not all potential buyers are into "off roading" and lack places to do so. Millions of Americans are very impulsive..."stupidly impulsive" with purchasing RV's, campers, 5th wheels, boats, off road vehicles, you name it! Storage yards are full of stored vehicles...sitting there not being used and still costing the owners tons of money for loan payments, insurance, and storage fees. I guess some people can be stupidly impulsive by nature...just being human. The smart ones resist the wallet busting temptations.

Auto makers make more money on their financing the car loans than the sale of the vehicle. The higher the loan amount and the longer it takes to pay off mean more interest. Thats why they are making $90,000 vehicles

Insurance rates in through the roof. My insurance, with no clains has gone up 1/3 on 3 cars. Manufactures must start to offer their own self insurance plans.

Is there any chance that MSRPs will go DOWN? Generally prices on cars (MSRPs at least) do NOT go down. That being said, if people truly can't afford new cars won't they have to lower MSRPs?

Problem is automakers keep bringing in the fully loaded models that nobody can afford or wants. The other problem is automakers cut the entry level model or budget friendly models to focus more on the fully loaded models. Most people want the basic model to mid spec model over the fully loaded model. And I know I will lose my shirt on my 22 Frontier if I trade it in. That's why I am not trading it in I'll keep I asked the bank to raise my payment per month to pay it down quicker. When I car shop I figure out what I can afford or how it fits my needs and how I can benefit from it. Yes the fancy model catches my eye like everybody else. But I am one of those people I like a mid specked vehicle over one loaded with bells and whistles I'll never use. I hate leather, I hate moon roofs but that's just me as a shopper. I could have gone with a Pro 4X Frontier but my SV suits me it has a longer box which I wanted and I use.
