That silver looks amazing on that body, I'm really impressed with how steady you are trimming your bare metal foil. I have to use a sharpie pen or a molotov pen for my window trim. My Parkinson's makes me to shaky . Your engine is looking very good. I like to paint the inside of the body on my builds too. I'm excited to see the finished model. Looking great. I like your idea of for sanding your tires, it works well. I use a spark plugs socket in my drill it works ok too, that way you can sand several tired at once.

I used ti think the MPCs were the best kits, but I really think it comes down to the age care and operation and QA of the plastic injection molds, and probably that kit that was like you say same as Gen Lee, they probably made millions, plastic injection molds need expert care and maint ( I use to be an operator ) It makes it frustrating to assemble a low quality kit. Started building in 1961! Great job!!

Some observations on your excellent build! I've built versions of this kit several times in my lifetime including the General Lee. Everybody disses the old kits from Round 2 like they are impossible to build. I think they are great skill builders. If all you build are kits that require paint and glue you're not getting much challenge or even learning new skills. I like these old kits and get to build kits I lost in my youth. First version was the red plastic Bobby Isaac #71 K&K Insurance Charger Daytona stock car. This version modified the original stock 1970 molds and accommodated the Daytona wing, nose, rear window plug, and fender vents. I wish I still had this one. This is also why early versions of DoH kit don’t have the proper tunneled rear window and to this day, the front fender and grill/bumper fit poorly. If you look at the instruction, some of this stock car is in the illustrations, the chassis has the side exhaust dumps in a couple of the pictures. I built the DoH when it came out in the crappy orange plastic like all the kids did. I probably blew this model up or set it on fire. The third model I built was the Charger 500. The rear window plug was there so they just modified the grill and voila! Still have it to this day. Then I built the AMT Charger Daytona from this mold. A frustrating pile, but it looks ok from fifty feet. They kept the same Charger 500 body but made some pretty bad fender extensions for the aero nose. That’s a difficult kit to build. The aero nose is the race car nose made to look stock. My son gave me the kit you built a couple of years ago and it will probably replace the DoH kit one of these days.

Good job on the airbrushing! The easy answer on plug wire is 30 gauge. However that only describes the wire size not the insulation around it. Some 30 gauge wire are too thick because of the insulation. I take the easy way and buy the Detail Master sets. I’m still trying to get the boots to look more in scale.

Great advice about the bumper fitting to do first and windows can be a bear as well. Better to test fit and adjust first before doing anything else. MPC bumpers are tough because alot of times they have no real attachment design, so unlike a tight fitting puzzle piece they are sloppy or too big to fit. Windows hang badly and the windshield hits the dash. Great work on this difficult kit! Looks good.

I bought this one new in the box at a local flea market a couple years ago and I'm getting ready to do it. It indeed is the General Lee, just with different decals. There's also an MPC press-fit/snap-tite Cocal Cola curbside edition, which I also have. I think MPC first issued this back in '68 or so as a 1968 and then they've futzed around with it since. Since the country has lost its mind over the General Lee livery, I guess MPC or whoever owns it decided to do other things with it. ;-)

That kit was the original general Lee charger kit that sold more then any other kit Soo it has a lot of use on the molds. It's 1980s technology.

50 year old mold. It was like taking a trip back in time. Back then who cared, just add more glue.

Hi, just found your channel and it has given me some great tips for getting back into building models again. Been out of it for a few decades.
1 question, what product did you use (perhaps a link to it), and what method was used to remove the chrome off the bumpers and grille?

Glad to see that you're getting back into the hobby. I soak the chrome. Parts in purple power degreaser. The chrome will usually be gone in an hr or so.

A de greaser that removes chrome? Really.
I heard you mention that stuff on the video but wasn't sure if there was different products with a similar or same name.
Clean Rite Purple Power (4320P) Industrial Strength Cleaner and Degreaser.
      Many thanks again.

I just bought this kit yesterday and I was wondering if the parts are interchangeable with other model cars. I want to add a blower to mine but I can’t seem to find the hood piece for it.
