Dont really mind the quality it's the subject matter for me as I love that car..kit price has gone a bit mad latley though .Still one of the car kits I would like to build at some point. It's older than me that kit, Originaly a new tool in 1963 ,its had parts added in 1973.and back then quality model kits were few and far between ,it would have been an upper end kit in it's day. I certainly dont expect it to be what we have become used to today. End of the day it is what it is...an old kit of a superb and iconic automobile . Nice job Paul .
Thanks hugh. Would love to see you build a car
Awesome job just got into my first model car after 50 years, Revell 71 Cuda and it was a terrible kit and expensive. Thanks for the heads up on your kit.CHEERS
Great video, loads of information here. The kits strong point is the subject matter: 1963 split window Corvette. Correct, very basic kit. But you made it shine with a great paint job, it will look good on the shelf.
The spinners (nuts) for the knock-off wheels...?
Beautiful finish!
I've built this kit a time or two. It actually shines above AMT's '53 Corvette. THAT was a truly abysmal kit. On this one, perhaps combine this Split-window body with Revell's '67 chassis and motor?
I love that color Paul. Great job making the best of an old kit!
Fabulous build, wonderful color and contrast. An honor even to witness its build.
Dude, I've watched this a few times to learn. Your skill is next level. I really like how you did the chrome elements around the windshield and along the roof.
This was one of the first kits I built way back in the day. Fond memories!!! I love what you did with it Paul!!! Nicely Done!!! Thanks for sharing
Thanks mate
I enjoyed your video. I grew up with a Split Window Vette. A few things - the Rib which ran from the center of the roof, down between the rear windows, and on, to the rear, was fiber glass. the same color as the body. Not chrome. The inspiration for Zora Arkus Duntov, was the Bugatti Atlantique Coupe. which featured a split rear window, with a riveted raised rib. There were a number of different engines. The car offered an option of Fuel Injection, a first for a North American Car. The stock wheels were not offered as options on this kit. Last thing. Many early AMT kits originated as Chevrolet Promotional offerings. In '65, my Uncle, a Chevy Dealer, gifted my brother & I Red & White Stingray Promo models for Christmas. If one researches the original split window, you'll discover that the Louvres on the hood are 'mock' non-functional, much like those on the sides, behind the front wheel wells. Pete Brock, famous for his Shelby Daytona coupe, worked for Duntov. He published a book on his involvement in the prototype stages. A good resource. I appreciated your approach to getting a great paint job.Your video brought back a lot of fond memories. Will look forward to what you post next. Cheers
You did a great job with a kit that leaves a lot to be desired. That Pro Scale paint seems to be some good stuff. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks mate
Nice build!! I’ve had a rerelease of this kit for about 30 years and have not built it yet, but I think I’m going to add this to my rotation of upcoming builds!!
I would skip it if I were you, terrible kit.
Mid ‘60s Corvette has the most stunning body lines ❤ the 1967-68 Mustang would be a close second ❤
Great job! Thanks for using the Chevy orange for the engine. I guess I’m just old school. I’m sick of seeing modelers using the wrong color. I’m a stickler for detail. Body colors are builder choice, but stay true to original on the rest. I haven’t done so much lacquer paint but you brought up an interesting point about using the water based chrome on the lacquer paint if you sorta mess it up and how quickly one can easily remedy the problem. Great tip.
Thank you buddy :)
I want to share something that I learned today with you. I’m sure that you guys that have been building models for years have basically all of the tools of the trade. But since I retired I’ve gotten back into the hobby that I loved as a youngun, so I don’t have everything at my disposal as of yet. But I recently bought some micro bits to drill my engine blocks for plug wires. Well, I thought that I would be able to use my Dremel to do that. WRONG! So thought well hell, gotta order a pencil drill. You probably already know this, I had my exacto knife on my table and wondered maybe. I took the blade out and screwed the bit in, and I was so proud that I just had to share. Saved myself a few bucks, and was proud of that too. I’ve not seen anyone saying that you could use an exacto knife for a pencil drill. 😁 Now don’t go tellin anybody now you hear.
Great work. That's one good looking model you got there.👍
Nice build. Thank you for the review and I definitely like that paint. I gotta get my hands on some of that paint. Simply magnificent!
No problem 👍
That's a great color. Excellent build as always.
Thank you
What a great colour Paul. Well done 🙂
*Wonderful paint, old kits only need some care to be magnificent!*
Cheers
I’m shocked that you built this kit, so many were unable to stick through it so my hats off to you sir for completing it and wow that paint!! I hope that your paint system will be available to America!!
Thanks Chris and yes we post worldwide :)
I do love this color. The finish on this one turned out amazing. I have to go buy duraluminium now.
Thanks buddy
Super sharp paint. Thanks for sharing you paint process.
Cheers buddy
I like this model...Magnifique !! The King of wet paint ,,Good color ...
Thank you mate
Stunning paint job 😉👍👍👍👍👍👍👌👌
Cheers buddy
I appreciate your honesty! I was thinking about getting this kit, especially because it has a bunch of extra parts, but I will most likely not get it.
That paint job is awesome!
Cheers mark
Nice build Paul....... 👍👍
WOW - A Jedi MASTER !!!! This was an amazing video !!!!!!!! THANKS
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice build Paul, love the color
I've got the Revell Corvette Sting Ray 1.8 scale
Stunning colour.
I wouldn't even have both with the engine, I'd have glued the bonnet on and had it as a kerbside.
Yep I did think about that
Great job, beautiful color.🤟🤠👍
Thanks
Another great build Paul, you are a true master with car kits, especially with this ' golden oldie' very bedt regards to you and your family from a Kiwi living in Australia 👍👍👍👍
Thanks les :)
Paul I think it's turned out awesome.
Thank buddy
I agree. I built this kit as a pro street/drag version. Between the headers not lining up with the collector plates, the engine not seating properly, the glass needing to be cut into two pieces to fit properly and allow enough room for the interior to mount properly as well, the rear bumpers having to be re configured to fit in the space allowed after the interior was installed, etc., you can tell the car was poorly engineered and the molds are crap at this point. BUT, like you said, if you want to build a 63 split window this is pretty much your only choice so you have to deal with it... It CAN be turned into a nice piece if you go into it knowing it will need some extra work. Honestly, that's the appeal of this kit. IF YOU LIKE SCRATCH BUILDING, DON'T MIND REWORKING THINGS AND COMING UP WITH CREATIVE SOLUTIONS you can build really nice model. Just know you can build three well engineered kits in the time this one will take you to tame. In spite of the hassles, I enjoyed the challenge.
Hello! I'm a first-time viewer of your channel, and was blown away by your Corvette model. I built dozens of model kits when I was young, but I was terrible at it. I didn't have the knowledge or the resources to do a proper build. The price of model kits today is crazy, and looking at the parts from your kit, the quality of the pieces on the trees are worse than before. I enjoyed your video, and have Liked and Subscribed. Thanks!
amazing paint job ive been researching paint and techniques' for years gotta try im impressed scooter out🤩
Thanks scooter :)
Paul I like the model car kits you build please do a few more armor and aircraft.
Yes! I have built this kit and agree...very poor kit... but you made it look awesome. You do excellent work!!
Great paint work as usual Paul- goes to show its not the model, its the modeller.
Thanks buddy
Last week i stumbled across an old AMT/Ertl/Lucasfilm StarWars speederbike, in the attic. I don't know what the scale is but it's between 1/6 and 1/10 ish ? It's manufactured in *1997. A little bit better quality than i thought, judging by the box. The stand that comes with the kit is quite cool. Completely forgot i had this.. i don't remember buying it 😂
Excellent you should build that :)
What a gorgeous paint job on that Paul! Do you remember what psi you were at on the 2k coat. Outstanding
Hi John I was at apron 24 psi buddy
I could watch your build vids all day, very well produced compared to others!🤔
Orange line 2K?
Jman
Thanks mate. Proscale paints 2k
I have that kit but I haven't started it yet and watching your video gives me a heads up, the worst kit I've built is a 68 Shelby GT 500 absolutely horrible but a fantastic car.
It’s buildable but not nice
Stunning finish. I have 3 of the '63s and the chassis and body will not fit together properly.
Cheers buddy
Great build!!! What glue do u use most?
Thank you. This is what I mostly use czcams.com/video/T-RyPkFqGL4/video.html followed ca glue
👍
Oh yeah, terrible kit. But I did manage to build it to my own personal standards. And I do love the car so I was motivated. I wish I could get it to look as good as yours though. Excellent job !
You don't paint the interior of the body ? The first thing i look inside a model is the roof !
Normally I do watch my other builds!!!
This kit is terrible so I just wanted it done!!!!
классно !
Any intention of distributing ProScale Paints to USA based retailers?
Not as of this time no
This Corvette model was the first car model I did... What a crapy little thing 😅😅
I need to build another 60s Corvette to do a good one, maybe the Revell kit will do the job.
Just a comment for the algorithm
Amazing job
What is the exact 2k u use
Thanks and it’s this one my own product :) www.proscalepaints.uk/products/2k-clearcoat-system
@@InternationalScaleModeller ok thanks shipping to Canada is not going to be cheap I assume.
@@grega4450 prices are all
Listed on our website buddy
I don't understand why Round2 asks so much for kits like this. The molds must be like 50 years old. It must be like you said sometimes we have no choice.
Yep crazy money for a crappy kit
i have a 1/16 have rims/motors ect cant decide on color
Ohh nice red is a safe choice
Wait really is this a bad kit because I just got this yesterday for my first model kit ever because I want to get into this hobby.Oh man maybe I should just return it 🤦♂️
AMT really suck these day.
Some of their kits are real turds!
13:55 “…chrome…took days to strip.”
For many years, I’ve used Windex blue window cleaner with good results. Soak for at least 24 hours with fresh liquid, use a toothbrush and pick to remove clearcoat residue off parts.
This kit is an overpriced turd but can be transformed into a nice build if you put in the work. Well done!
Thank you
such a shame a worthless kit of an all time classic
Garbage kit
