    FAQ's
Q: My Key Cap will not click down in place correctly. Whats wrong?
A: If your Key Assembly is not installed correctly, I would disassemble and inspect for damage. If none is found, try to reinstall as seen here. If its still not working, its most likely due to the hinge clip being damaged or not oriented correctly or the metal pins on the keyboard being bent out of place. If you cannot fix or locate the issue, I would assume the key is damaged in some way and needs to be replaced.
Q: The Hinge Clips came off with the Key Cap. What do I do?
A: Because they key can usually not be reinstalled with the Retainer Clip and the Key Cap still attached to each other, you would have to separate them as seen here, using a small flat pry tool.
Q: Where can I purchase replacement keys?
A: If any component of the key assembly is broken, it would have to be replaced. I usually get my keys on Ebay or www.replacementlaptopkeys.com. If you cannot find a loose key for sale, you may have to purchase a keyboard and take a key from there.
Q: I have a Key or Keys that are not working. Will this fix them?
A: This video is a tutorial on how to replace a key. If your keys are not working but are not mechanically broken, troubleshoot them as seen here; • How To Fix Troubleshoo... .
Q: The hinge clip came apart into two pieces. How can I reassemble?
A: They fit together with a small plastic pin on the left and right of the inner clip. These fit into holes on the outer clip. To see exactly how the inner clip sits in the outer clip, remove another key cap and copy the clip under it.
Q: The rubber spring came off. How do I reattach it?
A: There isn't really a good way to reattach those. They are not meant to be replaced. Best advice is try to use a small amount of glue. If that does not work, you may have to replace the keyboard.

Thank you so much. "L" key was jammed, I opened the key cap and cleaned. And it is working fine now. I contacted HP support before watching this video, support agent was charging so much money to replace the whole keyboard. I was shocked at the price they quoted, their bogus solution to replace the whole keyboard and the real solution was removing a small particle stuck under the key cap. With the help of this educational video, I fixed it for free and learned how to do it.

So I removed both up and down arrow keys and was shocked at the accumulated dirt and dust, especially since I take trouble to keep the keyboard clean. I used a fine artist's paintbrush (a hog fitch) to clean out the garbage, and then replaced the frames and the keycaps...and it worked! For about an hour, then the up-arrow started repeating again - eg in an editor the cursor zoomed up to line 1 and stayed there. I'll either repeat the process or dig further. Thanks for your guidance.

In case it helps anyone struggling with this problem: my retainer cap came off and was partly attached to the key and I couldn't fix it.
I solved the problem by separating the retainer cap part that was still attached to the key from the key and focusing on just putting the two retainer cap parts together to start with.
I noticed the smaller retainer cap piece actually has a hinge in tiny indentations on both sides in the inside middle of the larger piece.
These clipped together, I put them in the key position making sure they matched the metal brackets, then just pushed the key in on top.

If your Key Cap is not clicking down in place correctly, it is most likely due to the Retainer Clip not being properly installed or damaged. I have opened my laptop as the keys on the left side of my keyboard (the vent side) aren’t working. They used to work rarely when I repeatedly turned on and off my backlit keyboard lights. But now, that has stopped as well. Is it the dust or is it something else? All other keys are working fine. It’s basically Q, A, Z, and the other keys on their left and top sides. As I mentioned, my laptop is open now, so any help would be appreciated. The bottom of the keyboard (the inside part) which is under a transparent film seems slightly dusty, but I’m hesitating to take those films off.

I honestly think that doing is slowly increases the risk of breaking it!...
Plastic is flexible, even if it's hard plastic. Therefore, if you bend it quickly and then allow it to go back to its relaxed state, it might hold, whereas if you bend it slowly and keep it in its bent state for a prolonged time, it might break!... Even for the exact same amount of bend!

Usually arrow keys are similar in size to letter keys. If yours are a bit larger, they should still have the same basic layout. A retainer clip and a key cap on top of a rubber spring. If your arrow keys are very large, they may have a metal bar or two as do shift and space keys as seen here: czcams.com/video/S6gCGN_2zW8/video.html.

Hi. My retainer clip came off with the key. I can snap it on, but every 4th tap or so, it's begins to come up. How do I keep it down?
Edit: I see you told someone else to take off the clip, but I've tried and it seems to be stuck onto it. LOL
Second edit, I just put a little elbow grease and was able to get it off. Wish me luck.
3rd: I think I put it on upside?? It snapped back on the key, but didn't stay on the board.
4: I managed to get it up there, but if I stroke the key in either left or right top corner, it's coming off. And when it does, the retainer clip comes off with it.

If your Key Assembly is not installed correctly, I would disassemble and inspect for damage.

Your hinge clips are staying on the key cap? Because they key can usually not be reinstalled with the Retainer Clip and the Key Cap still attached to each other, you would have to separate them as seen here, using a small flat pry tool.

If any component of the key assembly is broken, it would have to be replaced. I usually get my keys on Ebay or www.replacementlaptopkeys.com. If you cannot find a loose key for sale, you may have to purchase a keyboard and take a key from there.

If your Key Cap is not clicking down in place correctly, it is most likely due to the Retainer Clip not being properly installed or damaged. Remove the Cap and inspect for damage or that its not laying down flush and properly snapped in itself. Compare to another Clip if needed by removing another Cap.

@@Zarlozo This is the Key replacement video lol. It shows how to correctly remove a key and how to correctly put it back on. If yours is not installing correctly, and is most likely damaged, you need to inspect it and the metal pins on the keyboard for damage. If you are unsure of what to look for, compare it to another key on your keyboard
