Listen would you have rather had a 39 with 60 inch product over this if you needed to hog a field and grow grain on small property
Thatâs a tuff call. My short answer would be ânoâ, Iâd still rather have my gear drive L2501. Although I canât speak about the new 3902, and 3302, the regular hydrostatic 3901, and 3301 donât have much more power to the PTO than the gear drive 2501. Plus, once youâre over the 26hp threshold, all of them are tier 4, so more electronics, and constant regen cycles. Plus, Iâm still loyal to the whole geardrive thing. If itâs mechanical, itâs just nuts, bolts, and replacing parts. A hydrostatic to me, would be like trying to work on an automatic transmission. I canât diagnose those kind of issues, let alone repair them. I realize the geardrive 2501 doesnât have the live PTO, so it stops whenever the clutch is pushed. But people forget, it wasnât long ago, most all farm tractors were like that. I also believe that the L2501s are purposefully underrated to stay a tier3 diesel. Iâve seen them dump tested, and theyâre almost always over 30hp in reality.
I have never found a situation where I needed more power. More weight, maybe. But all weâre really talking about is PTO power anyway. The actual machines are almost identical. The loaders, and hydraulic pump are identical.
Look at it this way. I couldâve bought most any machine. I couldnât see any benefits to going bigger, until you get way over 40hp. But thatâs just me. Keep in mind that Iâm old, and stubborn too.
Iâm well into my 4th year of owning this machine, and I really have no complaints.
Also, when we made this video, it wasnât really supposed to be a review. It was supposed to explain how I decided which machine to buy, based on our specific needs.
Back then, the L-series wasnât as popular as they seem to be now.
Several dealers tried to talk me out of buying this machine. If you are honest with yourself, and do your homework, youâll find the right machine âfor youâ. A good dealer wonât try and change your mind just to accommodate their inventory.
Hope this helps.
Scott
@@scottfromwhiskeynsunshine305 Thanks my friend that answered my question, because the new ones aren't anymore different.
I ran a grand kubtoa L4740 almost into the ground. 47 hp Hst are so efficient but costs more. When I had 100 snow removal city customers you dam right more hp and hst is the way to go. As off last week my snow removal business is over and I just have to service a couple of neighbours and my 23 acres, woods, firewood cutting, garden. I donât have to be to peak efficient anymore. I have to be cost and reliable conscience. The tractor I will be buying will likely be my last one. All the pollution, and electronics can cause a lot of grief and living where I live I canât get things fixed right away not to mention the added costs.
I liked running the hst for loader work and snow removal but for heavy hauling, gear drive is the way to go but again I enjoyed my hst. Again my tractor had 4000 hours, needed and the hyro pumps donât last foreverâŠ.so a possible another $5000 repair for the sake of the hst tecknonoly So I was faced with a $5000 repair for sure and then maybe another $5000 for the pump⊠so do I put that kind of money into and old tractor? Umm that was the question so in a way it was the hst that caused me to decide to sell my tractor. Iâm 61 years old and donât want to be faced with that problem again when Iâm 70. So Iâm buying new tractor and one with the least amount of problems and the cheepest to repair and maintain. đ
â. Well said. I have an L2501 with a finish mower on the back, third function, grapple, etc. I went in to buy a 3901, and the salesman told me I wouldn't need the extra HP for my application. He was right. I only EVER feel limited by weight.
This is one the best walk arounds of the L2501 that I've seen on CZcams! Thank you.
Thank you much!
Does anyone else besides me just want to have a beer with this guy?!
Most of the time itâs bourbon, but it do enjoy a good strong IPA every now, and then. Then again, I still have a soft spot for PBR too.
Lol!
I just ordered that same model w/manual trans all for the reasons you put out. I have an 8N so this is a step up for my retirement projects. oh and the backhoe too! Nice video!
Awesome! Congratulations on the new Kubota! Youâre gonna love it!
I have this exact tractor (mines a 2015 year model). Only difference is mine doesnât have the quick attach bucket. It gets used on my tree farm and other than changing a battery and maintenance I havenât had a lick of trouble with it. The torque for such a small tractor is outstanding!
Excellent walk-around! Thank you. My wife and I just got 20 acres and need a tractor. You sold me on this one, I was considering one a bit larger with the automatic, no more, I'll go manual trans and the 2501.
Wow Congratulations on the 20 acres! Very exciting! I'm glad you got the information you needed from the video.Good luck on your new adventures!
I have watched a lot of reviews on the L2501, as I am considering buying one. This review was one of the best. It was presented in a simple, understandable format, and the information was delivered at a pace I could follow and take notes. Good job!
Thank you. Glad you found it helpful. I like to do my research on things Iâm interested in purchasing and I like to pass on that knowledge to help make the best choices.
Man Whiskey! I wish I saw this review before I bought my L2501. This is the best review hands down. You hit on all points we needed to know. I love the 2501. Like you said it can do A LOT. Great review đ
Bought a 2501 last fall. So far, itâs a beast. I got my pickup stuck far back in the woods - snow, mud and ice all over the place. I took the 25 (with loaded tires all around) to the rescue. I chose it over the 3910. It pulled the pickup easily out of a messy predicament. I have pulled a 2 bottom plow, tiller and back blade with the 25. I highly recommend it.
Wow thatâs awesome! Itâs definitely a beast!
I can definitely see where the hydrostatic would be better for the work youâre doing. It does let you move very gently, and slowly. I havenât seen the new 3902, or 3302 yet. My understanding is that most of the changes are cosmetic??
Probably the best small tractor built!
I think so too!
Thank you sir. Looking into getting a kubota thatâs why I am here. Donât know much about tractors and thanks for the info.
Glad to be of help.
I had a 2501 for 6 years and it served me well, only problem was some of the intricate work I did with loading (motors, transmissions in tight spots)
The manual trans was challenging to creep into position without riding the clutchâŠ.even in low range was a bit jerky at timesâŠ
I also wanted more Hp which I needed for other bigger projectsâŠended up with a 3902 ⊠the dealer I bought the 2501 from gave me a great trade it value âŠHope this is my last tractor!
A buddy of mine has a 1988 kubota B series HST âŠ1400 hrs and all heâs done was changed fluids and replaced a few hydraulic hoses from dry rot!
Iâm not a big fan of the regen process but thatâs the way everything is now days! Read itâs not that big of deal if you let the tractor do what it wants.
Good review! Spot on with description! Iâll miss my 2501 in some ways âŠbare bones work horse at itâs best!
It sounds like the 3902 and Hst is what's best for what you need. It's all in how you use them. Great to hear your buddy hasn't had much problems with that old of a tractor. We are hoping this will be our last one as well. It should last a good long time. Great to hear from you, and thank you for watching.
Thanks so much for the video! I'm looking at a 2015 L2501. Owner is out of town so we will meet Sunday or Monday. Your video has been very helpful to knowing what to look for. Many years ago we had a small gear driven Massey. It also allowed you to tilt and raise the bucket at the same time. I just remember there were occasional issues that would arise and the bucket to forks attachment was a nightmare. We always kept a pry bar close by.
The skid steers at my workplace are the same way. The best advice I can give you is to keep them well greased. Makes a big difference.
I have a L2501 and can say that the PTO is sufficient enough to run wood chippers and brush hogs and I am planning on getting a tiller in the near future. It may need to be run very conservatively but it will handle these things just fine so long and one purchases equipment that falls within it's perimeters. And a hydrostatic transmission makes handling much easier. One will need to replace a clutch before having to have a transmission fixed. In fact there are not too many Kubota's going in for transmission work. I know some folks just like shifting gears, others saving money but the hydrostatic transmission is worth having. One does not need to complicate things with shifting gears especially on uneven ground when you need to be paying attention to stability and concentrate on more important matters as to not rolling over.
You wouldnât hesitate to run a 60â finish mower with it? Iâm torn between this and the L3301 as that will be my primary use for 6 acres of field
The hst loses too much power
Just bought a 2019 L2501 gear drive Kubota without the manual. Appreciate the informative video to get me started. Thank you.
Awesome! Glad I could help. Thanks for watching!
Appreciate you taking the time and the honest modest opinions. Iâm on less land and have some slightly different needs but hearing your thinking process helps me confirm mine. Iâll probably end up in a Kubota LX machine due to some reasons that are different than your reasons, but I truly say thanks for detailing your thoughts on your L series. Thanks!
Awesome, glad I could help in some way. I think some people donât realize this is our opinion on what we need. To hopefully help others in their decision. Lx are a great machine. Happy tractoring!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on your Kubota. We have a 1998 New Holland 1725 that is of similar size to your Kubota with just a little more horsepower, We bought it used from Union Farm Equipment in Union, Maine back in 2004. It's been a great tractor for us on our 50 acre farm in Milbridge, Maine. We've been thinking about adding another tractor (keeping the New Holland), and I was recently looking at a Kubota L3302 at Dorr's Equipment in Hermon, Maine. At around $30,000.00 for the one I was looking at (no frills - just basic package with Ag tires), I felt a bit overwhelmed with sticker shock! I like that Kubota, but I'm retired and now starting to think about other options. Thanks again for sharing your experiences.
We have heard the same from a few other people about the price of the tractors. They have really gone up a lot. We also heard some are having trouble finding the L2501. They are selling as fast as they come in. Great to meet another Mainer here. Hoping you find what you are looking for. Thank you for watching!
Great review! Thanks for taking the time. I think you've pretty much settled my mind on which tractor I'll be buying.
Thanks! I donât think you will be disappointed. Enjoy!
Sold my B series and still regret it. Never sell a gun or a tractor. Looking at a used L series now. Great video. Liked and subbed.
We agree with you Steve! We sold our old one to buy a new one, but it was scary for a bit in between. We love this tractor, it works great for us. Good luck on the new to you tractor.
Hi from Maine! My dad and I are building an off grid camp right now. Thanks for doing this review! Now weâve made our choice for which tractor will be best for our project!
Thatâs so awesome! Good luck with everything! You will love having a tractor.
Awesome review! You could get paid to do reviews like this. Very thorough, and you never got off track and chased a rabbit. Thanks for doing this it was very helpful and gave me points to ponder before I buy my first tractor.
God bless you, and God bless America!
Thank you! Glad it was helpful. Have fun with your new tractor, we know you will love it. Take care
Iâm 729 and a former L235 4x4 owner. I have a JD 675b skid steer in use for my heavy chores (wood, snow, dirt/rocks etc) but looking for a tractor again as well. Honestly, I didnât buy another tractor yet because I feel like the quality on most of them just ainât there like it used to be. I am also thinking I want to mow the front yard with whatever I get so that changes a lot of things when you shop... Mid mowers vs 3 point mowers for example... Anyway thanks for sharing about your Kubota!
Great video: I purchased a B series and have almost 10 years of trouble free use. I didnât get the hst, but opted for the clutch and so far itâs been perfect. I do a lot of garden tilling so it fits thru garden gates a little easier. Thanks for the walk around review.
Thank you Bill! Just gotta love a tractor that gets the job done! Happy Tractoring!
love kubotas ive used to tow huge doubble axel trailer with 4 cords of wood blocked up behind a little kubota G2160 21hp riding mower and it tows like it wasnt there there that strong @@WhiskeynSunshineOffGrid
I'm not saying anything new here but thank you for putting this video together. I'm researching what tractor to get to help with my chores on 10 acres of wooded property and this has been extremely helpful.
Awesome! Glad I could help.
Thank you for the informative video. Spot on.
I spent many years using a 1978 Kubota B7100 4wd back in the late 70's and early 80's. I'm a fan of KISS... (keep it simple stupid).
I was going to go for an MX5400, but I think you've changed my mind. I think that a L2501 will be heavy enough and resilient enough to do what I need on my 1/2 mile driveway, and it'll outlive me.
Thank you again. God Bless.
Glad it helped! That's quite a horse power difference. From 50 horse to 25. We do love the tractor and have no regrets buying it for our road. Good luck and Happy Tractoring!
Great job on your video. I subscribed today because I think your a down to earth person. Guys like you I watched over a year and it helped me buy my Kubota. Have a great day.
Awesome! Thank you! So glad we could help.
A little over 2 years this video shows up, and all I could put to mind was.. I hope this man's tractor has paid for itself.
It sure has.
More concise & clear than a fast talking tractor ad. You can learn from watching this. I would have gotten an enclosed cab for the cold weather. Well done.
Thank you so much! We've had a few people say that about the enclosed cab. It's not that bad for us, but it would be nice.
We have access to tractors when we will need them but I'm just starting to do research into tractors. Great info here! Thanks for coming into our Life Stream yesterday!
Thatâs great! Hope some or all this information helps. Scott does his research well before he jumps into anything. Take care
Hello from Wisconsin! I'm a fellow L2501 owner and just love it. I wish i had gone with the manual shift, I think. My hydro has been great, I just didn't want to wait for a manual shift.
I see you have a few videos out. Iâm going to head over and check them out.
A RIFLE RACK ON A TRACTOR !!! SOOO COOL .But I like mine right next too me.nice walk around.
Definitely. Thank you
Kubota should use this video for all their new owners! Very helpful information! Thank you!
Thank you! Glad I could help.
Great video I have a l2501 hst with backhoe and box blade and love it I have been around Kubota a long time like you and just wonât buy anything else thanks for sharing
Thanks. Itâs just an overall great tractor. We love it
As an farm kid who grew up with 'real' tractors, I appreciate you pointing the benefits of geared drive. Geared drive is just going to give you more power to the ground and last forever. I can see how hydrostatic would be nice if one got the machine for lots of loader work... but maybe buy a skid steer if the loader is 90% of why you're buying a tractor. There's also other transmission types that better blend power and longevity with ease of use, like the shuttle shift.
Good video I bought at 2501 for the same reasons that you have said I only wish I would have got the agricultural adjustable rimsFor the rear I now need wheel spaces to get clearance for my rear chains
Thanks! Bummer you have to get the spacers, but it will be worth it for sure.
Just wanted to say thank you for all the solid, concise information.
Very welcome, Much appreciated!
Nice info. The vast majority of us are not going to repair anything, but will leave it to the professionals anyway so if you treat them with care, the hst is not a problem.
probably đ
Bought one last spring it's just like yours I love it
Awesome! It's a great rig.
Hello just subscribed, we live in Northern Virginia and are Retired, we just bought a new L2501.
Hello, great to meet you ! Thank you đ
You are going to love it! đ
if it comes with that lever gun, i'm a buyer !
Lol oops, nope. Ours didnât come with one eitherđ
27:01 UTV/ATV's are more versatile but I understand a tractor with a lift, backhole, tiller, mulcher attachment is very handy.
Really like them thar "Chain-drives" out back. Your "kubogy" ( that's what l call mine) with the gear-drive trany would of been my 4th tractor to ADD TO the "fleet" if it just had the 8 speed forward & reverse, instead of just low range reverse. My "kubogy" MX5200 TLB Shuttle-Shift @5years & 835 hrs has worked flawlessly, a "miracle" in the tractor world of today. Just have to get another 3000 hours on it before l will "REALLY LIKE IT". Thanks for the great Vidio Sir and happy safe tractoring.
Actually, itâs still a shuttle, but it only gives you 2 reverse speeds within each range, depending on which side of the transmission youâre in. Giving you 8 speeds forward, and 4 reverse.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge..Iâm plan on purchasing a L2502. Talking to a salesman even after paying off your tractor you can still have kubota insurance if you choose.
You're welcome! Thank you for the info. Good luck with the new tractor!
Nice machine, I had a Kubota HST 1700, a 1986. A 35 year old Hydrostatic drive tractor. My father is still using it today. Have never had any problems with the Hydrostatic Transmission.
I went shopping last year, wanted a machine with a backhoe. I ended up buying a Kioti CK4010TLB. Kioti are the only other manufacturer who make their complete tractor. I do think about the emissions with the regeneration system. But I get snow like you, and run a snow blower, so wanted the extra power.
Kioti was initially a little more money, but a bunch of the things that you had to add were already included, like the SkidSteer quick attach on the front end loader,
Bucket level indicator, two rear remotes, and a block heater. So in the end with equal accessories Kioti a little less money.
The Kubota insurance sounds good, I donât have that with Kioti. Theyâre all good as long as theyâre working! Good luck with your new machine!
Yes that is so true! Happy Tractoring!
Your review was well put together based on common sense and experience. I have had a 6100 then moved to a 2750 then to an L4150. I like not having the live clutch. Also you lose some functional HP with the Hydrostatic Transmission to run it. I also have a ZD326 for my lawn. Your Kubota is a work machine. Everything you said is spot on. Great job with the review.
Thank you!
Great info thanks very much ,I have 5 acres upstate Hancock NY , my knees are not the greatest but an ATV with a plow doesnât cut it , Iâll be moving up there by next winter.
Wow sounds nice. Beautiful area there.
Great video. Just bought one and now I want all the attachments you have lol
Thanks so much! We love ours. Happy Tractoring!
I warched this video before purchasing my L2502DT and no regrets. I got the box blade, tiller and a Vrisimo flail mower and this little 25 hp doesn't even know a 60" tiller is being pulled behind it. I did consider the 39hp but it actually wasn't needed and that DPF kept me from getting it.
Nice! Glad it was helpful. Sounds like you found the secret like we did, that these machines are a beast for what we need them for. Happy tractoring!
a HST hydrostatic transmission is not like an automatic transmission. But you have to get what you like.
Yep. Depends on use too. I use my loader a ton. HST is a must for me.
đđ»
Man, you are my hero. I was just about to pull the trigger on an Obama-Emission 2014. After listening to you, I'm going to keep on lookin'. Stay strong! And, thank you. CB.
Glad I could help steer you from that one. Good luck! Hope you find just the right one for you. You won't regret it!
Thank you for watching!
I wish my L2501 was gear drive vice hydro. However, mine does have live PTO anytime the PTO is engaged. One of the disadvantages I feel of having hydrostatic drive is I'm afraid of using a brake to help steer in tight spots because I'm concerned about it putting undue strain on the transmission. Nice video and very informative.
Glad you found it helpful. Thank you!!
I have a L2501 with many personal changes and very happy with it.
Your description is so well done, KUBOTA should have you on staff.
Thank you so much! or Land Pride! I could use some implements. lol
Agreed, well done Mr. Whiskey nothing like plain talk and some common sense. Wins the day!
Thank you! I try đđ»
Iâm 28 and Iâm the same way you are. A tractor is made for work, and a tractor should have a clutch.
NICE tire chains!!! Love me some tire chains.....those are TOP shelf. Do a video on those babies.
Was anyone else waiting for him to say âwanna dicker?â Lol great video
Lol right state⊠wrong show!đ Thank you đđ»
@@WhiskeynSunshineOffGrid I know
You should come see my 1970 656 hydro since you think they are not around. They were not popular back then, so they were not big sellers. That is why there are not a lot around.
Good to know there are some around.
Great video! I have been researching my options for the past year, and your video was one of the most comprehensive. I am happy to be your 400th subscriber.
Awesome! Welcome đđ»
I like Kubotas. First one I had was an L 2650. It too, was Shuttle Shift. Rated at 30 HP and no DPF as it was a 1992 model. Wished I still had it. I got a J.D. 3025e hydrostatic and boy I don't like it. You did a great walk around and explaining things.
Thanks so much! We really love the tractor and haven't had any remorse for buying it at all. It definitely does the jobs we need it for. Now for more implements. lol
Great review, Iâm looking at the L3901 for the extra payload although you said it was the same as yours. Just bought a lot in Alexandria NH and getting a grapple for it to clear the lot and eventually build a timber frame.
Thatâs great! Sounds like it will do the trick for you. Congratulations on the new property! Thatâs a beautiful area over there.
My first tractor too was a Kubota, an old 25 horse work animal. I used it with a Barretto trencher to put in underground wire. It only failed me one time in many years. I soild it to go to Iraq to do electric for the Soldiers. When I came home I looked for a new Kubota and loved the things just like I did my old one. Life rolled around the way it does and I looked at a John Deere when I heard about the troubles Kubota was having with their regen systems. I made a decision and bought the John Deere. It is a 3039R and as life would have it, I love it. That Deere is a wonderful machine. I picked it up from Reynolds in Indiana. Anyway, the reason I am responding to you here is so that people who are searching I want them to know there is joy on both sides of the fence. I loved my old Kubota, but my Deere leaves me with no regrets.
Absolutely! That is great to hear. As long as the job gets done, itâs a good day! Thank you for that insight and Thank you for your service to help the soldiers.
I cant imagine spending that kind of money on a brand Spanky shiny new tractor and not having live PTO. that live PTO is a big deal if you run a bush hog. disk mower, drum mower, flail mower, tiller, sickle mower, ect. things this tractor owner probably would never have. but still for what it costs for a new machine I cant imagine it not having live PTO.
Meanwhile, millions of users of old tractors, like the ford 8n have no complaints. They work just fine.
I own a grand L4240HST With a four in one front bucket and a BH92 backhoe. It has a six speed transmission and a clutch. This machine has all the power + to easily handle a small farm or large acreage. Itâs never refused a job placed in front of it. Itâs dug up over sixty trees with up to 24 inch thick tree trunks. Itâs moved well over 200 ton of soil and rock. It pulls a two bottom plow like itâs not even there. It took me close to 18 months of research before pulling the trigger, plus Iâve had over 20 years operating earth moving equipment of all types. These Kubotaâs are awesome and in my opinion unbeatable. Donât pay extra for green paint. The HS is superior to a shuttle system style transmission, but each to his own. God bless.
Wow awesome! They are a workhorse! Such a great machine. đđ»
Toyota in background. Good choice! This guy knows his machines for sure.
Thank you!
great video sir. actually going in a couple of days to purchase an L series. i was wanting the L2501hst but gonna be pulling a tiller and am worried it wont do great with it so im more sold on the L3302hst. Thanks for putting this video out. đ€đ»
That's great! Good luck with your new tractor and happy tilling!
You are missing a bolt in the right rear tire.
We had a kubota 4wd tractor here in australia on our property almost exactly the same as your original L235, same year etc.. we only sold it last year, you just could not kill it, the new owner is loving it still đ
It was a great tractor for us. Parts were wearing out and getting hard to source. As far as we know, the guy that bought it from us is still happy too.
Great video, I have a 1987 L2550 Iâm thinking of buying a new kubota but still looking
6 years with a L2501 and not 1 time in the shop. Just bought a 2020 as well that will be here Tuesday. Great machines.
Awesome Happy Tractoring!
i just sold my l235 great machine
Your take is on point with a gear tractor V a hydro. great review.
cheers from Louisiana.
Thank you Rick!
Great testimony , honest and not bios.
You got it goin' on, sir! My hat's off to you! đ
Thank you!
Great video and I love your set up.
Thank you!
I appreciate your review. Especially the fact youa HD equipment mechanic. I'm going to get a 2501 with a manual shift.
Good luck Ted! You will love it!
Thank you for this video yâall are great! So much information that was helpful. Iâm going to buy the same setupđ
Glad it was helpful! Thank you!
Nice tractor! I just paid for a 2501hst with backhoe today, i like the top I may just call and get that added.
Very cool! The roof helps a lot. We went for many years without one so when we got this one it was a must haveâŠalong with the cup holder. Lol
Thank you! I just bought this model and your video is wonderful! They're still building mine - two weeks and she's ready - I can hardly wait! I have almost exactly the same as yours just no roof over the seat. Really enjoyed this video. I have a lavender farm outside of Nashville. Gigi's Lavender & nursery.
Hey thatâs awesome! You will love it! Itâs a great rig! Congratulations! A lavender farm sounds like a peaceful place when in bloom. đ I bet itâs beautiful. Thanks for watching đ
grand L 3560 cab model here and its wonderful.
Nice!
Great video. Made me consider the standard trans.
Thank you!
I subscribed.
Awesome! Thank you!
I heard a lot of good things about these Kubotas. Thanks for sharing! New subscriber here. Nice channel.
Thank you for coming over and subbing. We have had really good luck with both our old one and new one.
Really great video - very informative. Wish the manufacturer would do videos like this. Trying to decide between HST and Gear. On one hand $2000 savings, on the other ease of use. But like you say, HSTs probably don't have the longevity, and I believe need more filter changes similar to zero turn mowers. Decisions...
The hydrostatic machines do have 3 filters, as opposed to the 2 that you find on a gear drive machine. I wouldnât let that be a deciding factor. A gear drive machine isnât for everyone. Iâve been running machines that have a clutch my whole life. Iâll admit, the hydrostatic machines are easier to run. If you can run a lawn tractor, you can run a hydrostatic tractor. The gear drive machines give you more power to the ground, but you lose some of your margin of error. If you slip the clutch, youâll probably cook it in no time. But it wasnât long ago that most machines operated this way. Same thing with the PTO. Essentially people are complaining because the PTO stops when you push the clutch. Thatâs how all the older tractors were, and I see it as a non issue. Itâs not like you canât disengage the lever to stop it.
People are very passionate about their tractors, much like trucks, guns, etc..
When we made this video, it wasnât intended to be a sales pitch for the 2501, or even for Kubota in general. We wanted to talk about features that you find on compact tractors, and choosing the right one for you. Mostly it was supposed to be âwhy I chose this machineâ.
Thereâs a mind boggling amount of manufacturers, and models to chose from. Do your research, and pick the machine that best suits your needs.
L2501 and l2502 are solid steel and cast iron. My lx2610su has a aluminum rear, pto, gear case, motor block, etc. For longtivity the l2501 or l2502 is a 200% better choice than the lx2610 that they always try to compare too. IF YOU ARE GONNA BUY A NEW TRACTOR, TAKE A MAGNET WITH You. Then compare tractors. Hope this helps someone
Great tip! Thanks!
We've had our L2501 for 3yrs now. Maintain our .5 mile gravel drive in all seasons @ 8000' in So. Colo. Very easy to operate and have started mowing pasture 25-30 acres in sections last couple seasons to promote spreading wildflowers, etc.
Ours came as pkg deal with bucket, rear mower, spreader and a trailer and we've added quick hitch and 7' blade for driveway.
Would you happen to know if B4672 backhoe(used) would fit on this model?
Thank you very much for your video.
That sounds like a great package with your tractor.
I have no idea if it would fit. Sorry I canât be more help with that.
That tractor will be good for a long time and much less repair. I just had a seal leak between tranny and motor and had sell my L4740 $5000 repair. You see once a tractor has 4000 hours on it just how much are you going to pump into it. A machanic bought it and I told him about it. Looking at buying another tractor and most likely will be the l2502 standard.
We hope it lasts a good long time. Good luck with your next purchase!
Love that tractor! Inherited mine from my Dad two years ago. One mean machine for sure!
Thatâs great! They sure aređđ»
What a Dad;)
Yea the tier 4 Kubotas are having major issues and Kubota is not fixing the issues. No live PTO? that sucks. Everytime you have to start moving you have to start the PTO at the same time.
Excellent video! Thanks for all the detailed information!!
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome video! Great job on the walk through of your tractor. She is a beauty. I also have a Kubota gear drive. While I don't have your mechanical experience, my thinking was similar to yours in that I would much rather attempt to fix a gear drive. Living in northern NH, I just wish I had a cab. Oh well, its nothing a good hat, coat and snowmobile pants didn't fix. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Thanks! Itâs a great machine for sure. The cab would be nice here too, but definitely dressing for the weather helps. Merry Christmas to you as well.
WORD OF WARNING TO L2501 OWNERS: The Cotter Pins in the Rear Diff Lock Lever (lever behind right heel) have a tendency of breaking and falling out, thus eliminating your ability to press down on the lever locking the Rear Diff.
Good to know đđ»
Fantastic review Whiskey
Thank you!
I have bought 11 Kubota tractors. Had 1 bad one. They brought me a new one with no problems. Kubota is the only tractor I would have.
Gotta love the customer service!đđ»
I have a 2015 L2501 HST 4x4 that actually has a clutch. In fact you have to depress the clutch to start the engine. I do have the Kubota BH77 backhoe, skid steer quick release, & front hydraulics for grapple. This has been a good machine thus far with just under 300 hours on the clock. We live in the Sierra Mountains on 10 acres and this machine has paid for itself in doing jobs that would have cost $$ like replacing my leach field as one example. Good video, thank you.
We are always saying, What did we ever do without a tractor?!
It definitely has made many projects much easier and made it possible to do them. Thanks for watching!
@jimm2442 I see you posted 2 years ago, but if you see my post here, I have a question about your L2501, and checking hydraulic oil levels. I can be more specific if you happen to check back here.
And thanks to Scott here on his sharing his good ideas along with the L2501 features..you make a good team. Enjoy your safe working retirement đ
Ive got implements to 60" wide on the PTO of my 2501.bush hog squealer,54"tiller,finishing mower, that tractor will handle all the properly sized implements on that PTO no problem.just remember, its 25 hp,not 45,use it as designed, you'll have no issues.I would never be afraid of "Hystat tractors,Ive seen many hydro tractors run several thousand hours with little to no issues.Think of this, skidsteers, excavators, hystat dozers, most equipment now days are hystat.Whatever drive you prefer,i would not be afraid of either,KUBOTA and most companies got it down to an art.Good luck people, compact tractors are very handy.
You are very correct, most modern heavy equipment is hydro drive, and most also requires a tier 4 regen system. I have to run that stuff at work, and not a week goes by that we donât have at least one technician making service calls because our machines are âdownâ. Iâll admit the machines at work do see a lot of hard use, but itâs a hassle I/we didnât need, or want.
my l2501 is a "maintenance tractor." ive had subs do the heavy work, mini X, backhoe and track loader... spent ~$4500 on my 10ac of woods in the mountains. gonna buy a used track loader with grapple next.
the D1703 engine is rated for 34hp... when warranty is up its going to my mechanic. gonna advance the timing and open up the DI. ill get a 30-32 hp tractor with no tier 4 shit on it! box blade and FEL = 2 tons... that's a perfect CUT!

Thank you for the great walk around, working on buying my 2nd Kubota and looking at this model.
Nice! Glad you like it. Hopefully it was helpful in making your choice. Happy Tractoring!
Great review,I'm getting ready to buy my first tractor and this was a huge help. Thank you. Like you I think the kubuta is built jus a little more rugged
Awesome! So glad we could help! Happy Tractoring!đđ»
Our 2501 was our 1st purchase after we bought our property
We had an older one when we move here, but quickly realized it was tired and purchased this new one. We couldnât do lots of things around here without it. đ
Rim Guard, aka "beet juice freezes at -35f and slushes at a very low temp. gallon for gallon it is heavier as well
Very interesting! Thanks for the information.
Good looking tractor. I agree with the gear drive tractor. I have a gear drive tractor and also a small hydro tractor. I don't like the power and push of the hydro compared to my gear drive. Thanks for the walk around. Hope the cold weather has passed. Kubota is a tough machine. New SUBSCRIBER here. Enjoyed a full-watch. Have a fine week and keep on tractoring. đđœđ
Thank you for watching! Our weather is starting to warm up finally. Take care
Appreciate your time
Thank you for watching!
That is a nice, big, red toy you have there. I know itâs gonna be a workhorse so enjoy it.
Yes, expensive toy too. Itâs a big help around here. đ
