The message just slaps the deepest depths of one's soul and the martial arts slaps your jaw out of the hinges so that You have to collect it from the ground because its just so spectacularly well done. Not mentioning the music which just doubles the impact of this whole movie (Countless hours listening to Wu by Andy Lau, so goooood). Love this movie, definitely all time fav! I've watched this movie a few years ago and I'll admit it changed me as a person. The message of accepting your past and letting go is incredibly well portraited in Shaolin, the growth of the main character is beautifully executed. One of my favorite scenes is the one where the wife of the protagonist asks if he is to return home, but he states that Shaolin is his home now. Such passionate feelings for something that changed him and made him a better person is truly amazing. I make sure to watch it once every year, so as not to forget it's beautiful message.
Was really surprised to find out this movie is one of Rantoni's favorite! Thanks for the review pepperoni

It's true that you need be alone for balance your energy and find mind power, clarity but also going out there and do different experiences of life it's the duality towards enlightenment.

Seriously, I love how it illustrates the process of a man going from a life of violence to one of compassion. It was an amazing movie, and it is very classically Asian with the bitter sweet ending. Was/is veeeeeery common in Chinese, Japanese, etc etc. I feel like they have all been westernized in a way, with happy endings being more common (if not common). Even Japanese and Chinese anime have more and more happy endings, and waaaaay more objective endings with less "fill in hte blank to your imagination".
This is the first video of yours i have been suggested in years and damn did i forget how great/funny you are. I sub to so many yters to join the fight, but it's too many for them to suggest them all. haha.

I love that the villain of the piece weeps over his own actions.
It's also important to remember that the movie is a spiritual sequel to Jet Li's Shaolin Temple trilogy, which is a big part of why the real temple still exists at all. Between those films bringing interest to the temple within China, and the Kung Fu TV series in the US bringing international interest to the temple, it became a cultural phenomenon when previously it had been suppressed.

Ranton can you answer me if you know? I feel like you would know since you are expert. Is the drunken lady last form that Sam the Seed does and Jackie Chan does real? Also is the there a sickness style like in Dance of the Drunken Mantis? Thank you keep the videos up ☺️

2:06 The depiction of the shaolin temple in this kind of reminds me of "The 36 Chambers of Shaolin". kinda old movie about a guy inventing the three-section-staff

(i mention odd couple specifically cos its so weapons based there would be a tonne to deconstruct even as a segment in a multi film analysis)

I expected 36th Chamber of Shaolin to be your inspiration for going to train in the Shaolin Temple. It's a masterpiece of a movie imo along with 8 Diagram Pole Fighter from the same director Lau Kar Leung.

the 'staff' may be a super fun weapon you learn first, but it is also the weapon that teaches you what a clumsy you really are - even if youve been training for years

Great comments! My ex teacher Zhang Li Peng aka Shi Xing Peng was the best Ditang quan performer I ever seen or hear. He was off the hook! The monk from the movie ( Shi Xing Hu) was my teacher classmate from the 32nd Generation warrior monks with ( De Qing aka Shi Xing Hong, Shi Xing Hao etc, etc).

Holy shit I've been trying to remember this movie for the longest time after watching it on TV as a child but I could never find it until now. All I could remember was the bit near the end where he falls into Buddha's hands because it stuck with me since then. Damn.

6:50 Ditangquan(Ground Tumbling Boxi g) ,is a type of kung fu that specialise in acrobatics attacks, starting even from the ground,i have seen someone displaying it ,and it has many large attacks that start from the back.
Dog Boxing is another style on kung fu famous for its kicks and grabs from the ground,a type of proto-bjj i have seen someone say,
Basically, that master would have been a monster on the ground
