  • We are setting up a sound reinforcement system for the Bahama Days event for 2023. FOH is the RCF NX45-A speakers for mid/highs, with an RCF 8004-AS for the sub. Mixing console is the A&H QU-16.
    This video is an extended view of the setup.
    - Sound system setup for outdoor event
    - A shotgun mic was used for most of the recordings of the bands. These types of mics pick up bass very well, almost too much. There may be an emphasis of bass on some songs.
    Two bands performed. There were a lot of people at this event!
    Thank you!

    Love the video, thoughts on the rcf nx45 and what size shows can it handle since I’m planning to test them out and the nx32 since I prefer the smaller tops

      We enjoy mixing on the nx45 cabinets. They have a nice flat response. We use the nx45a cabinets (along with a single or dual-18" sub) to cover up to about 350 people. Thanks for your comment.

    Always first ones there and the last ones to leave. Once again nice setup. And fast band turnover. I have question regarding your sub snakes. What brand do you use? How many did you use on this setup? How many channels on each sub snake? Also, what is the length of the sub snake?

    • @stageleftaudio
      @stageleftaudio  Před 8 měsíci +2

      Thanks for your comment. We use Elitecoreaudio.com sub-snakes. The snakes are 30ft (9m) and each has 8-channels (no returns). For this event, we used two snakes (one for drums and bass - backline, the other for downstage - frontline).

    I'm looking to get a new desk. Would you recommend the QU16 chrome still, or should I look for a newer alternative? Budget is around the QU16 price new. We'd only use 12 inputs max. Live band, top 40. Thanks! Great vids as per usual

    • @stageleftaudio
      @stageleftaudio  Před 6 měsíci

      The QU16 has done very well. The layout of the console is good. It sounds good; we have never had any issues with it during an event. The QU is a very basic console. The status lights (level/peak indicators) are bright when they illuminate. For a digital console (and with input counts less than 16), we will most always use the QU for outdoor events because it is easier to see the status lights on it compared to our Presonus consoles. The QU does not have scribble strips... which is not an issue for us. Some things to consider with the QU... it has an upper ambient temperature limit of 94 degrees (F), compared to 104(F) for Presonus. This could be a problem for outdoor summer time events. I installed a fan in the console case of ours to help with cooling. Also, (this is my opinion)... the work-flow of the console is not as fluid as it is with the Presonus consoles. For me, I have to push more buttons on the QU than I would on a Presonus for certain things. The LCD screen on the QU is somewhat small, but once we have things dialed in, we don't need to reference too many things on the screen when the show starts.
      The QU has been a great console and I have no regrets.
      -- The QU-16 has been out for a long time. I'm not sure how long A&H will be manufacturing or supporting the line.
      Q - What console are you currently using?

    • @paddyeire96
      @paddyeire96 Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@stageleftaudio thanks so much for the reply. You've made some great points there. I was using a presonus 16.4.2 for 10 years and got on great with it. Then went to a soundcraft Ui24r but only lasted 6 months on it as its reputation for failing has finally turned me off the desk, so I sold that. I was considering the Studiolive 16 or 32c, the Qu16, and the Yamaha Dm3. Also I looked at the SQ5 but I think for the money it costs, I wouldn't be taking full advantage of it's capabilities. What desk would you recommend?

    • @stageleftaudio
      @stageleftaudio  Před 6 měsíci +1

      That is a very hard question. If you are comfortable with the Presonus line, the 32SC should be easy for you to get up to speed with; I don't think Presonus offers the "16" anymore, unless it's something like their 16R. The work-flow with the SC is nice. We usually use the QU for outdoor shows (assuming no hot-weather events). We keep the Presonus consoles for indoor events (most of the time, but not all). The Presonus LED's are hard to see in daylight.
      Something to think about... if you decide to start using a digital snake, Presonus uses the AVB (opensource) networking technology. A&H uses Dante. There are many audio companies that use AVB in their gear. There are more audio companies that use Dante. AVB is very easy to setup and configure on AVB equipped gear. Dante is a bit more complex and requires a PC (with Dante software) to configure gear for a network. With Presonus, there's no PC required; all AVB configuration is conducted on the console using the console touch-screen.
      It's hard to recommend which one would be better (a lot of variables). The consoles are different enough that it's hard to recommend just one. The workflow on each one is different. They both have their strengths. The 32SC offers more control (sub-groups, matrices, a lot of DCAs), where as the QU only provides 4 DCAs (no sub-groups, no matrices)... this may not matter for your setups.
      Unfortunately, Presonus does not use Dante, and A&H does not use AVB. However, Presonus recently came out with a device that allows their consoles to network with a Dante network... but it requires a PC with Dante installed to setup the Dante network. A digital snake solution can be very, very expensive (depending on your needs). If a digital snake is in your future, think about which console you would be willing to build a network around.

    i have done sound for pro bands , major touring acts, sound engineers have to show bands how to check their levels, i make singers sing a line from a song at full volume, none of this really quiet "check check " business its pointless because if you set input levels based on people saying "check check" at low talking levels channels will clip once they start singing at full volume, same with drummers, they tap their drums at sound check then beat them when they actually play a song, and this band is proof sound guys can only do so much for a band, if the vocals are flat and lifeless theres no magic button that can help them

    Ihr braucht für 2/3 Mann, viel zu viel Zeit. Es sind 2 Tops und ein Subwoofer, mit 4/5 Monitoren. Das muss spätestens inkl. FOH in einer Stunde aufgebaut sein. Die Kabel sind teilweise viel zu lang. Es sieht dadurch sehr unordentlich aus. Kabel besser verlegen. Und vielleicht auf digitale Stageboxen mit Ethercon Kabel setzen. Ist schneller zu patchen. Holt euch für die Monitore und Tops Cases mit Rollen. Dort sind dann 2 Stück pro Case drin, somit seid ihr viel schneller beim transportieren und müsst nicht alles einzeln tragen.

    Nice event. I have a question: How did you put the guitars on the PA? I can´t see mics in front of the cabinets. Did you use DI boxes?
