I own a diesel mule and I have 450 hours on it now. I am on NSW Mid North Coast, high rainfall and steep country. It is a great bit of kit. You did not mention the fantastic ride quality and the 3 year warranty. I recently had the bullbar replaced under warranty and there was no argy bargy from Kawasaki, they stepped straight up and honoured the warranty. The storage area behind the seat I find very handy, just don't put really small things there. I got a full underbody bash plate and 2000lb winch from Aussie Power sports. I have winched a 400kg dead steer out of the creek with out any problems. I also put in a roof, horn, radio, led tray light and rubber tray mat. I also got the optional brush bar which bolts onto the bullar. I mounted some heavy duty Kolpin Rhino Grips there and carry a shovel and crowbar on it which is super handy. It also has a low centre of gravity which is good in hilly country. The low end torque is great, I regularly snig a couple of big strainers up hills and the Mule handles it really well. I put a 400 litre spray unit on the back and do all my spraying with it. I just keep asking and it keeps delivering.
I can tell you that if you have a load of gravel, fire wood etc there is no way you are going to be able to tip the tray by hand. If you need to tip often then you will need to get the optional electric hydraulic cargo bed lift kit.
You mentioned the brakes being a bit iffy. They need to be adjusted regularly, I do mine about everty 30-40 hours but your milage may vary.
One of the best bits of kit I have bought on my farm. Highly reccommended machine.

Hi Zebby. Not sure why I did not see you comment, I am sorry for the delay.
Yes, the ride quality is awesome. I will have a one year review coming up soon.

The brakes at the time of filming should not have needed to be adjusted as it was brand new, in saying that though, the steepness of that property is much worse than the way it looks on camera. Yes the low end torque is amazing. Feels like it would tow/carry/scull drag just about anything.

The back of the seats sit to upright. They need some kind of adjustment. I also don't really like the gas pedal positioning, i feel like i have bend my ankle too much , and you can't really relax your foot.

Gidday Steve, great video review and insight into sides x side. I guess I have missed the quad era. I am looking at a farm bike and using my 4x4 for PC, Side x side are safer then quad dependent on land, but the cost, I must be dreaming. I am not sure what will do.

    • @southernstarreview
      @southernstarreview  Před 2 lety +1

Are you in Australia? There are now many manufacturers not bringing quads here anymore. The Mule is awesome on smaller properties for farm work, mustering etc. But it depends on your requirements. If you are on a large property, checking waters, and want to hunt/shoot out of it, i cannot recommend the Yamaha Viking more.
No side x side will serve every purpose you require. But in my honest opinion, its bit like choosing tyres for you 4by. 80% of the time what do you want to do.
We have a full comprhensive video on the way in the next few months. But please dont hesitate to ask more questions. Happy to help

Hi guys. I liked your review on the diesel mule.
I’m in the market for a side by side for hunting on predominately flat country west of the range. Mostly spotlighting and low speed work, so am happy with the 50 kph top speed. Will not be towing or filling up the tray
    .
I can get the Mule for $27,000 with a roof and fold up windscreen or a Yamaha Viking for $26,000 with roof and fold up windscreen.
My question is which vehicle should I get?
    Cheers Ted

Hi Ted. 100% Viking. More room, more comfortable, and if you need to chase a pig, dog or whatever it will do it easy. I will post a short later of the middle seat insert Shain made. But with all said and done. For Hunting, the Viking wins easy.
