You mentioned total miles that Toyota and others can go for, ie 300 - 400k, and I'd like to toss my old Ford into the list. I had an '85 F250 with the 351 Winsor motor, ran perfect and never had any major engine trouble, no rebuilds ect. The worst problem it ever had was the water pump. Doesn't sound very impressive until you put into perspective that when I sold it, it had 380k miles on it and is still going very strong at around 412k last I heard.

I've wanted a Toyota 4Runner for the longest time. Was panning to buy a new truck ($38K or so) but recently decided to wait with the finance rates being so high and whatnot. By the time I can afford to buy a 4Runner, the '24s will probably all be used and the 25's will be a huge X-factor; same with the Tacomas.

Saving money is the best way to make anything in life affordable. Get a side account, whether it be a savings account, or a money market account like Robinhood... anything you won't be tempted to touch. Now have automatically have this account take $30 from your main bank account every business day (Monday through Friday). Don't even look at it for a year. After a year, you will have $7800. After 3 years you will have over $23k. After 10 years you will have almost $80k.
Buying expensive things doesn't require you to be rich, it just requires time and discipline if your short on cash.

Much better than the sedans I had been driving the last 20 years and honestly with the way our roads are these days a midsize truck is much more practical than buying a sedan for gas mileage. The only issue I've heard of from others or experienced myself with a Nissan (or old Datsun) truck was gas mileage, although my old 720 king cab with the Z24 4cylinder and stick shift got great MPG. I wish manufacturers would go back to the basics - I don't want my truck to be a luxury vehicle, but a function vehicle: the only option I care about at all is AC.

I just bought a 2018 Frontier. The gas mileage is atrocious and probably really only gets 18 on the highway. But that's charm. The truck is a dinosaur. Electronics are basic and that's what I love about it. It's a truck not a Corvette meets a luxury SuV with a bed. The V6 in it should be reliable being the same engine for 14 years straight.

Used a Bulldog Tuner set for mileage profile. Will still climb the pass on either side of the Eisenhower tunnel at 85mph without having it floored. Installed an AEM high flow DRY air filter, put good quality synthetics everywhere. Added an inexpensive tonneau cover. Get 4 mpg more highway (22mpg) than the factory rating, if I keep my foot out of it. Runs 2-3 mpg higher in the city.

Best vehicle I owned was an 06 Xterra with the 4.0 VQ engine and 6 speed manual. Used and abused that thing and it never asked anything back. Got 15-18 mpg no matter what you do. These frontiers with the 3.8 seem to be carrying the legacy forward. I’d get one of these in a heartbeat if the timing and price is right. If they keep losing value the way they always have, there will be good deals to be had

Just bought my C.P.O. 2023 Frontier SV 4x4 a few days ago......12.5K miles, Conveience and Premium package; totally loaded. It's been so darn fun and smooth to drive. Only paid 38K for it out the door. A similar equipped Taco or Colorado around my neck of the woods would've ran me easily in the mid 40's........ Great truck and thoroughly impressed so far. Scotty's on the money with this assessment.........

Honestly, I’m not a fan of the way Toyota has gone with the Tacoma. The new 24 Tacoma is loaded.
However for what it’s worth my neighbor has a frontier and it looks great. He uses it a lot. These frontiers today got my attention for being naturally aspirated v6 engines. I will happily pick one of these up and save my money.

The problem with buying a used vehicle right now is the insane interest rates on said used vehicles. Even with really good credit people are still paying 8, 9, 10, 11 percent for a certified pre-owned vehicle.
In contrast, the interest rate on my 2023 Tacoma 4x4 was 2.75%.

There’s a major drop coming for the used market because of dealer overstock on new vehicles. It’s estimated to occur later this fall going into winter. Dealers are getting flooded with new vehicles which are not moving. In turn rates will go down and most likely, if you’re financially stable enough, you’d be able to pay in cash for a used vehicle because they’re going to be marked considerably down.

I bought a new 2023 Nissan Frontier PRO-4X and I am very impressed. I was originally going to buy a TRD OFFROAD but the Toyota dealerships were way too proud of themselves. I think the new frontier is better than the tacoma and with the new tacomas being 4cyl I bet more people will be opting for the frontier. One last thing, I'm glad I didn't turn into a taco fanboy cause I think its funny how they hunt down frontier videos (why are they even watching them) and love to try to convince you that the frontier is crap and the taco is perfect.
