  • Moshe Safdie’s Habitat 67 wasn’t just one of the most important buildings of the 60s, it was an inspiring vision of what affordable living could be. Sadly, scope and funding never aligned, making the popular project something of an unfinished dream.
    Today, Safdie’s original vision can be explored in all its virtual glory with Unreal Engine 5, providing the next generation of architects, engineers, and urban planners an interactive reference point for creating a better tomorrow.

    Just to clarify something for you guys… This building actually exist in real life! It’s called « Habitat 67 » and is located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It’s called Habitat 67 because of the universal exposition that took place in Montreal in 1967 and it’s one of the best looking building in montreal! Trust me, it’s more beautiful in real life

    • @endar117

      This rendering is a recreation of the original design which could not be faithfully constructed due to limited funding for the project. The real Habitat 67 is not quite the same as this. Still beautiful though.

      Many European countries have socialised housing designed in a similar way. What's great about habitat 67 though is that each housing unit also has an outdoor rooftop garden. Hyper capitalist nations will never have anything like this because their housing is seen as a luxury only the rich can afford.

    • @nickv1212
      @nickv1212 Před rokem

      @@ashanarchy7255 This is totally doable in Austria, arguably the best socialized housing in the world. You wouldn't know those units were socialized unless someone told you. Well, they probably wouldn't build this cause they don't really have the land. But that's Europe for you.

    I prefer the more harmonious & organic architecture of Zaha Hadid. Habitat 67 feels very artificial (kind of brutalist). BUT, it's impressive to see this render in UE5.

    This looks like facility. SpaceX would totally build this for employees.
    I dont see it as a habitat and heres my opinion:
    1. no balcony? every apartment should have a balcony. i would give them minimum two for each side. looking in and out. If not, use terasa "for outdoor" and connect them with pathwalk
    2. "suspended"/hanging houses, might create for average Joe a sea sickness or a floating floor syndrome
    3. The main frame that holds the houses doesnt create that solid feel that this thing is not gonna crumble down after bit of a rust. They look flimsy. They should look solid so people feel safe.
    4. and yeah those bunks/apartments looks like offices
    I like the garden tho

    Great in theory, bad in reallity. If this isn't a rich neighborhood, the cost of maintenance of the infrastructure will make them fly from the area. Because the corridors and the too many "points of control" will allow gangs to take place. This is an other iteration of the Corbusier and others project from the chat of Athen that have lead to commieblocks disctricts that don't blend with the cityscape, and are often inhabitet by low income populations. Even if it was top odern at the time. But not connected, and becoming visualising disctinve from the rest of the ubrban fabric.
