- Moshe Safdie’s Habitat 67 wasn’t just one of the most important buildings of the 60s, it was an inspiring vision of what affordable living could be. Sadly, scope and funding never aligned, making the popular project something of an unfinished dream.
Today, Safdie’s original vision can be explored in all its virtual glory with Unreal Engine 5, providing the next generation of architects, engineers, and urban planners an interactive reference point for creating a better tomorrow.

Just to clarify something for you guys… This building actually exist in real life! It’s called « Habitat 67 » and is located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It’s called Habitat 67 because of the universal exposition that took place in Montreal in 1967 and it’s one of the best looking building in montreal! Trust me, it’s more beautiful in real life
This rendering is a recreation of the original design which could not be faithfully constructed due to limited funding for the project. The real Habitat 67 is not quite the same as this. Still beautiful though.
@@endar117 yeah for a weird reason I prefer the way it is right now lol
From the pictures i've seen, it's much nicer in the game though
@@AnthonyDutterthe view inside, on the corridor looks really good irl, the way the sun penetrate through the building looks beautiful! But damn unreal engine is insane!
I really wish we all lived in places like this instead of neighborhoods that spread out for miles. It looks so peaceful
Amazing work!
excellent project with some beautiful results.
I could never afford living in a place like this. It is incredibly beautiful though.
Many European countries have socialised housing designed in a similar way. What's great about habitat 67 though is that each housing unit also has an outdoor rooftop garden. Hyper capitalist nations will never have anything like this because their housing is seen as a luxury only the rich can afford.
@@ashanarchy7255 This is totally doable in Austria, arguably the best socialized housing in the world. You wouldn't know those units were socialized unless someone told you. Well, they probably wouldn't build this cause they don't really have the land. But that's Europe for you.
So beauty, So nice!
amazing architecture 🔥🔥🔥
Gorgeous
I really wish they could do this for paul rudolph LOMAX estate for nyc that never was. The concept looked visionary and brutalist.
otherworldly indeed ! 🙂
The structure or shape itself gives me a bit cyberpunk vibes. Like this is how it all would start in the year 2030 - 2040 before it all evolves into what you see in the game Cyberpunk 2077.
Then you should come visit Montreal. This structure is real it’s called « habitat 67 » because it was part of the 1967’s universal exposition that took place in Montreal! It’s more beautiful in real life trust me!
Would be perfect to have shopping districts underneath the concrete tent! Can be like Singaporean hawker center. No more UberEATS or biweekly shopping spree.
Pictured this as a level in a new Mirror's Edge game 😂
My biggest question is about the natural light and how every apartment could somehow get enough of it with the many overlapping compartments in different area
Its designed so that every apartment has a deck on the sky facing side that isnt directly underneath any structure. The side youre seeing is the "dark" side
I prefer the more harmonious & organic architecture of Zaha Hadid. Habitat 67 feels very artificial (kind of brutalist). BUT, it's impressive to see this render in UE5.
I agree on the aesthetic of habitat 67, I feel like the influence of nature in the design is just as important as the connection with nature in the surroundings!
Hi, greetings! From ph gamer
It I like the idea of using unreal engine
its also a real development in montreal
thanks for the video~ do you know how to add third person template to this project? my situation is my character is walking under the city surface, and if I add play start here my character would not show on the screen.
Beautiful but there is an extreme lack of privacy for people who live on the lower levels in regard to the terraces. I simply don't want people watching me every time I use my terrace.
Wait! Is this part of Expo ‘67 in Montreal? There’s something very similar in the city, where I live, but its not exactly like that.
They were given $15 000 000 funding instead of the $45 000 000 they wanted for this version. The version you have now is all they could build on that budget.
Preety and wonderful map to play Battlefield.
I think this is why mass effect 4 is taking so long beautiful and realistic af🔥🔥🔥🔥💯😳
Look s cool but also looks like someone can easily break in and get away. Also it looks like a nightmare doe fire fighters to put out fires...
Vraiment dommage que la version originale de Habitat 67 n’ait jamais vu le jour en raison du manque de financement.
Make this into a VR world to visit with v rooms for rent.
how about a toboggan run off the roof?
To all that read this, need support 🙏🙏
nice architectural comment
Not wheelchair friendly with all those stairs in the park site and home.
Open waters dangerous for kid's. Also the balcony fence.
How would that concrete looks after years is the weather.
Where are the entrance to all the homes.
Contact with neighbours looks difficult to me with those levels.
where's the graphiti and gangsters?
Its beautiful, but the concrete alone would destroy the planet. This is also extremely inefficient and would cost a lot, especially to maintain at its end of life.
RTX 4090 but how many?
This looks like facility. SpaceX would totally build this for employees.
I dont see it as a habitat and heres my opinion:
1. no balcony? every apartment should have a balcony. i would give them minimum two for each side. looking in and out. If not, use terasa "for outdoor" and connect them with pathwalk
2. "suspended"/hanging houses, might create for average Joe a sea sickness or a floating floor syndrome
3. The main frame that holds the houses doesnt create that solid feel that this thing is not gonna crumble down after bit of a rust. They look flimsy. They should look solid so people feel safe.
4. and yeah those bunks/apartments looks like offices
I like the garden tho
Download the demo and run it yourself, there are balconies in the interior view. In real life the elevators are the big problem, bc they can't be heated.
This huge windows everywhere are not the best for privacy, even if you ignore the fact that some people likes walking in their house much less dressed than for going out... And everyone taking care of the greenery on their own balconies? SOME people are happy to do it, others...not so much...
"People will be more willing to live in cities." Mate, I like to be alone without people around. I don't like being crammed into a housing area with 234563566563546 other people in the same square kilometer as me.
Bruh have you been to a Suburb lately!? This was recorded in 1967.
@@Wobbothe3rd A suburb is still the city to me. I used to live in a rural area before having to move to a city for work and I'm only willing to live here because my job is good. If I could have this job and work from a home with the nearest neighbor a kilometer or more away, I would.
Don’t like the concrete
Don’t like it - let new firms start with small projects to see how well they execute it. I would remove everything fully if it’s not up to standard so let’s start with small projects.
Great in theory, bad in reallity. If this isn't a rich neighborhood, the cost of maintenance of the infrastructure will make them fly from the area. Because the corridors and the too many "points of control" will allow gangs to take place. This is an other iteration of the Corbusier and others project from the chat of Athen that have lead to commieblocks disctricts that don't blend with the cityscape, and are often inhabitet by low income populations. Even if it was top odern at the time. But not connected, and becoming visualising disctinve from the rest of the ubrban fabric.
Gangs?
Jeez what are you talking about
What if the ground floor had a police station?
Japan tried something like this. Didn't work out
