Wow! I didn't expect to see my Fluid Flux here! Thank you for showcasing :) There is also a 2.0 version that introduces wave breaks and a large-scale ocean.
Whoa, the fluid flux blueprint is yours?! That's hella impressive man! The water looks almost natural, flowing into the holes and around the rocks, and the caustics are awesome too!
Just saw the waves and the ocean you have planned, and it is beautifully vast and well done! Amazing job!
nice water dude, how taxing is it?
Even seeing blueprints and understanding how this stuff works, it will always be magic to me, and that is the true essence of video games.
This is *ridiculously* impressive. I don't know how long it took you to get the physics of it right, but you nailed it. Kudos! Can't wait to see the 2.0 version!
Amazing work.
Would be sick to see a game where a dam breaks or tsunami hits and you have to try to run/swim out of it with this kind of physics. Would be intense.
Yeah something with mid graphics, but a main focus on processing the water physics effectively
Really sick. I imagined as well some surf games with real physics.
Not exactly what you're looking for, but you should check out the DLC for the game Outer Wilds. Some really cool physics involved there, including a running river and a dam that breaks lol
@jmd489 Outerwilds DLC
Tomb raider shadow
this could be used for an actual physcis based surfing game, would be insane. so much potential.
I wonder if this is optimized to be put in the game? With this kind of simulation it will put drain to the system..
All they talk about is how the new nanite technology hardly has any impact on fps so I don't see why not. Should leave room for stuff like this to be implemented @@newdiary6978
@@newdiary6978 this is spectacular only because it's rendered in real time
It's truly incredible because developers have always said water is the hardest thing to work with in a game.
I thought it was doors.
Wrong. It’s doors
@@DaemonTargaryen13 What? How are doors the hardest thing to work with? Is this a meme reference or a joke I don't get?

I can subconsciously feel my gpu burning and that's just looking at the video.
Well that's the incredible thing about unreal's tech, it has a reputation for being surprisingly light on hardware. Look at nanite for example.

we have too high standards
If these are your standards for water in a fully fledged game, then your standards are astronomical
@@corporatecapitalism Explains why people in 2024 cry over everything entertainment related.
@@Kanoog real. Literally calm down and enjoy the game, it’s not that deep
Gta 6 will be better than that
The problem is where you’re looking at a demo like this where it’s just a stage of water
In a real game where there’s going to be lots of other things happening and being factored into
It’s going to take a huge amounts of computing to get a stable playable frame rate
Well we went from needing render farms to spit out realistic behaving water in movies to this running in real-time, won't be long before it can run easily on top of everything else in a game. I would imagine a similar set of calculations could also be used for wind and such (since they all are just fluids)
@@BobIzam Yea, in a few years an RTX 4090 will be considered a low end gpu xD

The water is just missing the bright sparkling from the sun reflecting off of it. I love staring at moving water
theres some 3:59 but yea
That will be lighting
I felt something is missing. Like it looks more viscous than it should be.
Yes! If you look at the most "realistic looking" recent games (like Unrecord), you can see that it is the way they make use of dynamic lighting tech to make it look very real.
There's some sparkling at 8:18 I think
These graphics are beyond what me and my friend imagined the future graphics to be back when we played Tekken 1 on PS1 decades ago. Absolutely fantastic.
Wow a fellow tekken and yeah it's insane how far we've come
When Tekken released on ps2, those graphics exceeded my expectation. I do remember first seeing the water physics on that game. Fantastic.
We have now reached the full cohesion stage of real-time fluids. No longer must it be a hand-crafted combination of individual texture planes, noise maps, and particle generators. Now it is a single, self-contained, actively evolving entity within the game-world. I LOVE IT!
This is absolutely stunning. I could spend hours just messing around with the demo.
This is truly incredible and it does look beautiful. But I just want games to be fun again and not just good looking cash grabs, like most games today.
Perfect, I've just written the same thing.
Which games are you referring to?
I'm afraid most gpu's won't run ue5 games.
@@dammaguy1286Yeah. I have an RTX 4090 but still it will definitely struggle with these graphics lol
i want a society where people don't give all their money to the ma5ons who make them stupider?
been through the real nasty stuff, it's real obvious just look at it.
It'll be good when they can get the foam/spray properly sorted and the beach waves right. Certainly a move in the right direction
I also noticed the water foam looked a little blocky when coating rocks. But overall this is incredible.
Definitely the best virtual water I’ve ever seen. Makes me want to go swimming!
I would love to see this implemented with like, a submarine game, a ship game? You have to barricade yourself in an airtight room or try and swim through partially flooded compartments. Would be so sick!
Imagine this in vr, now that's beautiful!
It’ll be 2028 when i can afford a pc capable of playing a VR UE5 game, so going outside to a stream will have to suffice for now
Was just wondering whether praydog's universal ue vr mod can be implemented in these demos.. would at least be awesome for some meditation sessions
consider society collapse at the same time when youth tunes in and forgets about real world
you fall in that water you gonna be motion sick😂
Someone competent should do it. When I tried to make a river in UE5 VR it looked purple for some reason.
This is actually insane it looks like real life
I cannot believe you can just jump into a moving river and let the trash and water move you to the other side of the map.. UNDERNEATH it looks INSAAAANEE from looking up !
It looks like real life if you never swam in a real river before.
I have been into 3D computer graphics since the 1980's. Amazing to see how far the tech has come.
Moment of silence for all the ps4 & Xbox one owners who will be experiencing house fires in the near future.
Surely, it's a next step in water rendering but it's definitely not a "hyper realistic" water
The appearance is maybe a small upgrade, but the real impressive part is the physics and flow. Rising water levels dislodging a boat is pretty impressive, and the way the water finds crevices also.
Но это определённо лучше всего того, что сейчас есть на рынке. По этому....
We are talking about the flow of the water here not the graphics. The simulation
tell me you dont know what you are talking about without telling me.

This is good. Only thing missing is the water resistance when walking in the water.
My God Fluid Flux is amazing! I want to see how people use this to come up with unique gameplay ideas though. Also, I don't know if you noticed, but the FREAKING WAVES crashing into the shore are creating dynamic audio so it actually syncs up to the movement of the wave! That's INSANE!
The peak of 3d water for me was from one scene in Tangled. Just hit the right spot between style and realism. This looks exactly like that.
Whenever I see your "future of videogames" videos I think to myself; man am I happy to only be in my early 30s. Would suck to miss out lol

@@Spray_UK True lol
Same lol
Im only 18 lol
@@InfectedMindGamingit’s not true you won’t miss out on anything bro
The procedural, accurate foam is particularly impressive.
They are getting more and more realistic
Years ago I got my hands on a demo of a fluid simulation engine program, called Realflow. Was wicked crazy, and was super ram/GPU hungry. A 7 second test I did took 20+ hours to render as just a basic not textured animated/baked obj file. Come a long way from that. The cost for the serial back then was $2500 or something like that.
Well Blender does the same thing, it’s not real time and not surprising, it came out years and years ago.
@@PapaMosconi good for Blender lol it wasn’t as popular in 2010 as it is now. Back when people used to pay for their programs that were professional grade and was also used by the big studios. Thinking half of blender users now were Maya users then
Growing up on the Atari 800 I could only dream of computer games reaching this level of realism. Unbelievable this is all being done in real-time.
Same bro.... Another Atari kid from the 80's here.... I remember playing NES hoping for 3D and then being blown away when N64 and Mario 64 finally landed.... Now we're finally getting to dip our toes into VR and get realistic physics. 10 - 20 more years from now is going to be awsome and I'll still be gaming for decades to come after that, all with my son!
The water is amazing. The only thing I noticed was the waves breaking on the shore send to be a little dull. Also, the chop on the water surface seems to not curl as much as it should. The lighting is amazing, it would also be great to see the sand swirling with the ebb and flow of the tides and ripps pulling sand out and deforming the beach. That may be more of land deform than a water sim….but this is amazing.
Imagine seeing stuff like this in an open world game it would look so good
I don't know if you know. But the next Subnautica game is going to be made in UE5. Just imagine the water in that game when it comes out.
Not implemented, I'm sure as hell. It wouldn't make much sense to simulate water current as it's such a huge sea and you're going to be underwater anyway.
I imagine this tanks your FPS by 15 or so.
Yeah it’s confirmed Subnautica will be developed on Unreal Engine 5. Looking at some of the early source gameplay based off water physics and aquatic gameplay, I assume Subnautica 3 will have some of the most realistic water graphics and physics. They’ll not only make it look good but function brilliantly with other features.
@@NovusInc Does that make much sense? You are under the water after all. At least, the way it's implemented wouldn't be like it is in the video since Subnautica is just miles and miles of sea.
@@kenz2756 From outside perspective and the way the mechanics work will be different
@@kenz2756 I mean yeah it does. Shadow, ray tracing will all coincide with different mechanics like dust particles and lights. It’s going to be a clear cut very mechanical game even if they don’t put over the top effort into water graphics I think all the different combinations of features will ensure a overall better quality game compared to previous instalments.
This is the water ive been waiting for
Keep on waiting
Now did you have to say that?@@Talon18136
i remember playing around with this tech demo, absolute insanity, the guys is a mastermind for making something like this, there is also a similar plugin called fluid ninja, but is not as insane as this one
wow... just wow. This is seriously incredible. I can't even begin to figure out how to program a real time simulation like this. Only thing I didn't like was the foam/white wash. It makes the water look more viscous. It's a bit uncanny. But that can always be fixed. Truly insane stuff.
Water, snow/mud, and foot prints. My favorite details in gaming lol.
I know its just the water sim and nothing else is going on but i’d love to see the temps on your cpu & gpu fr

2:50 its called rippling caustics, its when lights entering water from above the surface and fracturing when it hits the seafloor
Interesting. Would love to see this implemented in a new Wave Race game.
I still go back and play Wave Race 64 every now and then, still plays amazingly.
@00Clive00
Oh definitely. It's a game I'll fire up every single time right around the beginning of Summer because it just captures that feeling so perfectly. A nautical masterpiece. And the music is in it is so, so sweet.
It's a crying shame we never got a true sequel to it on the Nintendo 64. Wave Race: Blue Storm kinda sucked.. 😂
The A.I. and announcer was just bad. Wasn't even by the same developer, also.
Now excuse me as I'm going to go about four seconds ahead while I follow that dolphin!

This is the kind of stuff that makes me really excited about the next Subnautica game being developed in Unreal Engine 5!
I have never been more thankful that Subnautica one was made before this sort of thing or I would die of fright. This is soooooo realistic
I played Pong... when it came out. I have a vivid imagination... but this was an impossible dream back then. Privileged to have witnessed the entire, incredible development of graphic realism in my lifetime
Dude someone has to make a water based game that heavily uses this and explores the boundaries of how well it translates to a packaged game
it's called subnautica, wishing that they remade the game with these
Remember back in the mid 90's Wave race 64, it has amazing water effects and feel.
Amazing. It needs to have gameplay implications too. Physics look great.
I've seen a lot of physics being employed by the unreal engine, all the while wondering how much will it cost in performance if applied to a fully developed game.
Impressive but - how much cpu/gpu processing overhead does it create. The biggest limitation in Unreal 5 is the world bounds limit that constrains the player to an area of only 21km² which is pretty limiting for true open world games. Still great to see fluid simulation becoming more real. Now we need some realistic waves!
That’s my fav environment in the virtual world I play in. Sunset over the ocean. Simply gorgeous!
looking at the river one, I was concerned it would just fill up infinitely, which would end up flooding the entire map after a while, but it seems I was wrong, looks amazing
I would love to see raft and play again at Raft with this ocean !
Or also in Subnautica
we always see these fancy stuff in tech demos for years now, will we ever see it in games?!
I'd love to have this in games but it's probably quite heavy on the CPU..
>will we ever see it in games?
No, Hydrophobia was released in 2010, since then try to find something close to this in water physics.
The biggest litmus test for water physics is always around crashing waves. So many particles to capture. Notice they didn’t have breakers over ankle high in this demo.
Wow! Just imagine these physics with 4k textures it’ll be even more gorgeous 😍
Just saw Starfield water physics a few minutes ago 😂 this is heavenly
These physics are almost as awesome as your content !
sounds like a botted comment but if it is genuine that's lovely
Damn if you think his content is awesome, then you have no standards
This is amazing :o Imagine a flooding cave rescue game using this plugin. Would be intense
it looks really good. The splashes are often clipping with the rocks, and the splash drops looks too clumpy sometimes and doesn't create smaller splashes. I miss foam being pushed up on the coast when there is a lot of salt water splashes.
New supercooper Sunday when?
We need a lifeguard simulator game with this water
I like this incredibly bewildered review of a technical component
Starfield?
I would love to get into another series by Trevor but I never know if he is going to continue the series so I just don’t lol
This is incredible for sure! It makes me excited for the future of VR!!✌🏻
You've got a long waaaaaay to go. VR ain't capable of handling this kind of simulation. The processor would blow up lol.
i have thalasaphobia and even though the game itself game me chills, i would definitely play game based on this water fluid flux version! it is awesome
Is there going to be a supercoopersunday next week??
i mean you could just check out real water outside lmao

This compared to like 30 years ago is truly astonishing
This is will be in GTA 6

No it won’t that game was done years ago they just were milking the last one for all they could before releasing the next one and only under pressure of the few fans they have
PLS UPTADE ON DOGS PEOPLE ArE CoNcERND😅
No joke this is exactly what I wanted to see in the future of gaming. I just want this in a game with editable terrain, is that too much to ask?
Does anyone else remember playing Wave Race (N64) back in 1996? When I first saw it, I was blown away by the water physics, hadn't seen anything like it before. I would love a new Wave Race game with these graphics.
This is RDR2 water 🤷♂️
Rdr water is not nearly like this, its a relatime simulation.
Thats really neat. I would also loke to see realistic and permanent terrain erosion in a game someday.
this is insanely realistic omg yeah cant wait to play video games with UE 5 and this fluid physics omg im really shocked how good this is !!!!
Wow, very kewl! Thanks for sharing. I still recall games with amazing water literally decades ago with Far Cry which amazed me. It's one of the first things I look for in newer games.
I wonder the extent to which this might be useful in approximating flooding in actual properties, if you could match the elevation and terrain alongside fluid physics?
Looks amazing. The only thing I think looks off about is is the water falling faster over the edge seems to have some sort of texture stretch that makes it look lower resolution. I'm nitpicking of course
Question how TF is the video so smooth?!?!
Slow your mouse movements down. Remember that regardless of your connection or device, youtube sends with significant compression and there's pixelation and artifacts for fast movement. Run around and move the mouse erratically, whatever, but then pause and pan really slowly, also holding the same shot for a few seconds. Then we can actually see the details in full quality.
this can be use as a simulation in an actual application for "River flow" monitoring, "Ocean cleaning", etc.
This reminded me of "Raw danger" a game for PS2. Maybe one day there will be a similar game with this water.
Stunning!!
Some more work on this, and you could actually have a realistic surfing game that forms waves based on different factors and you could go hunt them out and try to ride them... would be so good. Underwater contours, wind direction, swell and swell direction, and all different kinds of waves formed in an open world. My dream game, I'll probably be waiting a long time.
It's so satisfying, i have no words for it
Even the beach break works! This is insane!!!
this beauty scares me. will there be a toggle switch in the game menu, with which you can turn off the realistic simulation of water? it looks like 15 FPS on my computer.
What I want to know is how they managed to make it all swim-able, stinkin' impressive
Love to see someone compare an IRL river. Either man made one or real one. Then model it into UE5. Then do a side by side comparison and see if people can figure out which one is real
I really cant wait for these kinds of physics to be standardised in games. Never been too much of a graphics fan, sure nice graphics are cool and all. But i get wayy more exited when stuff behaves realistic in games, especially water!
5:28 that is just so incredible oh my gosh the light rays and everything
These already exist, like gta5
This looks awesome man
imagine a physics game with these water physics
*Realistic water physics*
My PC: *sweating nervously*
weve come a long ways, ive always admired water design/physics since the very beginning, i first appreciated it on ghost recon 2 for xbox and blood wake, then halo 3, hydro thunder hurricane and gta iv, i would say this should be a standard before they approve a game but then that would require more resources all over the place haha.
Knowing how difficult it was just to get realistic looking "still" water without any currents or waves (other than minor surface ripples) not that long ago this is jaw dropping crazy good. I'd buy a game just for those water effects and I wouldn't care if the game itself was crap just so long as I could splash in the water ;)
That was really impressive!
