But I remenbered that I still had my old PC laptop and found in my boyfriend's stuff (who's absolutly not a computer man) a USB printer cable (actually this is for a projector ?!)! This was incredible! It worked as described in the video. I called Epson and they said they could provide no help unless I installed Epson cartridges. I looked at the price--forget that! I was going to buy a new printer until I ran across this video. Thanks so much.

Thank you. This worked like a charm! The step by step instructions were excellent. The one recommendation would suggest, would be to remind everyone to turn off automatic firmware updates on the printer, otherwise they will be right back in the same situation again :). That's how I got into this situation.

Thanks so much. Your video was a HUGE help. Firmware update from Epson would only recognize my black ink cartridge and all of them were fairly new XL refilled cartridges. Your links don't work but was able to find firmware at a chipless printer website. So thankful. I cannot afford Epson's highly overpriced ink, which is more expensive than gas (July 2022). We are living in crazy times.

Did you manage to do the update twice? I only managed to do it once and when I tried the second time, the update page kept stalling. I saw that on the printer list it said connection type was "network" instead of "usb". Is that why the update kept stalling?
@@ninilim8372 It stalled the 2nd time for me, too, but it still worked.
Also, I didn't get a message about network connection. I used a usb cable.

I used the USB cable to do it the second time as well (according to the video) but it just kept stalling and it didn't say USB, it kept showing me network even though i still had the USB cable attached. But it seems OK as I don't see the message where my ink cartridge is not recognised! Thanks for the reply, just wanted to make sure that it still works even though I only updated it once! :)

I did this on my Epson XP-4105 and worked but not refillable cartridges that have no chip are not working. Getting maintenance error message. Any suggestions?
Did this and got 2 out of 4 ink cartridges to work after switching them back and forth. Other 2 aren't working, any suggestions?

Until a few months ago, my job was paying for original Epson ink cartridges. Is it possible to get an updated link to downgrade firmware? The ones in your description box no longer work.

Will this work on an XP-7100? I tried a similar method with almost the same software, but it would not work. Freezes at 54%. I have heard it will update the xp-7100 if it is in "recovery mode", but won't seem to work in "update mode" as you show here.

@allinonedevices2837 Hi, it seems that the new link is not working as well. It says that the file doesn't exist. It would be great if you could upload a workable version of the file again.
I was unable to download the file from either link. The first one said the it was blocked and possibly harmful, and the second one said that the file no longer existed.
Great work. Wish I'd seen this before I threw away my old cartridges. Screw Epson. Printer ink should be like generic car parts instead of paying for cheap printers and rip off ink prices.

can this be used for the xp3100 or is the fimware different for this model
This didnt work for my printer..same model and everything, but after the reboot, it goes back to the inspection mode, by tips or ideas? Think I've tried almost everything I can find..I even have the original cartridges as well..
It's worth noting also that it appears you have to remove the cartridges from the machine before downgrading the firmware. My cartridges were being recognised as "not genuine" but the prints were either just one colour or very malaligned, no amount of cleaning the heads would fix it. Attempted the firmware the first time and all went well with the downgrade but made no difference at all to the prints, they were still either printing in one colour or very patchy, took the cartridges out of the printer, did the downgrade again and even removed the printer completely from the computer, reinstalled it using Microsoft only (not the original discs or download from Epson) and as if by magic everything works perfectly now!.

your instructions were very easy to follow. But, sadly it didn't work. I keep getting a Maintenance Error "cannot recognize the ink cartridge". any workaround?
Quick question. Do I need to do both downgrades as this video describes or is it just two ways of doing it? That's the only part that confused me. Epson just screwed me locking out my new ink cartridges I bought on Amazon. My kids have homework to print and those greedy bastards just stuck it to me!

I just bought a used xp4105 at Goodwill and purchased the aftermarket ink. While waiting for the ink to arrive, I took a firmware upgrade. Bad mistake! The link you have for the chipless firmware isn't valid anymore, and when I search for it on the net I only find pay for download. Can you help me find the firmware?

didn't work; I had left rejected cartridges in during firmware update; everything looked good until 2nd firmware update; printer turned itself off and restarted per video; but still wouldn't accept cartridges; wonder if Epson updated its update to compromise this work around.
