Bake at 400deg F for 40 mins
2 1/2 cups All purpose flour
3/4 tbsp instant yeast
2 tbsp sugar
1 1/4 cup whole milk / stayfresh milk

1/2 cup soft butter unsalted / 1 stick soft butter unsalted

2 tbsp granulated sugar
3 cup currants
1/4 tsp fresh nutmeg
1/2 tsp vannila or mixed essence

Different from the way ,I was taught,which is ,no milk or butter, but cookeen,and rolling and layering, more layered, more cripsy.

This recipe was quick, simple and fun to make, it was a best seller as it came out the oven....all hands on deck as they enjoy homemade currant rolls...yummy😊

I tried the recipe 3 times and it came out good. The texture and flavour is more similar to a french bread. It does _not_ have the "authentic currants roll" flavour and texture because it lacks the quantity of butter to achieve that genuine "flaky pastry." Nevertheless, it is a very good recipe to use if you don't have much butter/margarine on hand or if you want something that's lower in fat! It's still a quality recipe. 🌟
First time seeing this made with yeast. Always just butter and/or cookeen and cold water

I now tried this recipe .it came out really good and flaky and I only had brown sugar to use.thank u.will make it again but will have to double the recipe.

By far the easiest recipe I have seen . Will give it a try once I get some currents . I note that you recommended three cups at the beginning and then added some more . Would four cups be just the right amount ? Also will the taste be affected if shortening is alternated with butter ?
