- The video shows the timelapse of the history of minimum wage in Europe by country from 1999 to 2022. A minimum wage is the lowest remuneration that employers can legally pay their employees-the price floor below which employees may not sell their labor. Most countries had introduced minimum wage legislation by the end of the 20th century.

Too bad the wages say nothing about living comfort... Minimum wage in The Netherlands means nothing when 70% goes to rent. I have €1500 fixed costs per month (1250 rent, 150 health care, 50 other insurances, 20 phone, 30 gym) and groceries became crazy expensive. Can barely make it through the month with just me and my (studying, not working) girlfriend whilst earning €2700 after tax.
Why not buying a house / apartment instead of renting one ? The rent would be replaced by the monthly loan to the bank.
@@BOGDANBLUNT With my salary I can't get more than 220k mortgage. That's about the cost of a parking spot in Amsterdam... Can't get a house/apartment for under 500k in this city.
@@Rick020 well that sucks

Interesting!
@WawamuStats Hi! How do I convert Canada and the USA's various state and provincial minimum hourly wages into a monthly minimum wage? Do you have a standard hour per month that you are using?
Here in Canada each province sets its own "absolute maximum allowable hours" per week or month, "its own hours per week or month before overtime must be paid", and within that each company sets its own standard hours per week. The numbers for "hours per week before overtime must be paid" vary from 40 to 54 in provinces that do it weekly. But standard hours vary from 34 to 44 in most companies.
Nice
Switzerland is very high. In Europe, my Swiss friend told me an average salary around 4500~8000 so that ture
how many € is the minimum wage of ireland ?
This is wrong, Greece’s minimum wage has never surpassed 600$ since 2008, rn is at 440€ (500$)
Τι λες τώρα είναι 663€ και θα αυξηθεί κι άλλο
It so sad i visit in Greece in April young people get suffering about inflation people told me they pay 30euro per 10hours i hope they get over it
@@hans4044 its mainly the govts fault, pray we get something better in the future
Bro what the fuck are you saying?💀
Our minimum wage recently surpassed 900€💀
To anyone wondering... yes the Nordic countries don't have minimum wage at all. The workers' unions are so strong there that they are able to negotiate the wages with the employers' conferderations, so there is no need for state wide minimum wage. The state usually only gets involved as intermmediators between the negotiators.
Feel kinda dismotivated while living in Belarus. And my family (both parents get 380$ per month combined) going to have to pay for my higher education and my brother's college and my diploma is not even recognized in the majority of the Europe. Well, shit. I'm in shit. So is my country. I just want to disappear
Try somehow to get EU visa, you and your brother and make better life there. Wish you all the best🍀🤞🏼
@@howtogetawaywith8896 our country is now occupied by russian military forces and other countries claimed us as aggressor (which is reasonable) and block borders. My friend tried to get a visa so she could try to apply to Finland, but they don't give them anymore.. she's forced to spend a whole year doing nothing now, waiting for something to change for the better. Thanks anyway, I really appreciate this
@@Oosjhteuikmm your country is a fake, dude. It's White Russia, so it can't be "occupied by Russian military". 😃
thats actually surprisingly low. i live in jakarta, indonesia and the minimum wage is like $310/month.
Per week, month, year???? Did I miss that somewhere?
per month,
I have changed the title accordingly now.
After all, Europe is the richest country in the world, so it seems overwhelming compared to Asia. Germany, UK, France, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, Norway, etc.

@@Maria_S.G.F perhaps he means region.
Exactly. They always say that USA is more rich than Europe ( I mean the peoples ) but isn’t , the money of USA is holding by rich, also, cause immigration, the salary of “ no Americans “ are less.
Anyway usa and europe are very close, they both rich, but if you focus of West European, there’s no competition, especially with Scandinavian countries, the money aren’t a problem for this countries, they earn something like 6000$+ monthly .
@@toshitsuneomizu1678 it’s cause he said Europe Is The Richest Country in The World
Europe is a continent not a country.
The german gov. saw this video and immediatly raised the minimum wage
The Dutch government has established the minimum wage by law. The minimum wage protects workers from underpayment. The government strictly combats underpayment, for example by imposing high fines on employers.
The amount of the fines for the employer:
- € 1,250 if the wages are paid in cash.
- € 2,000 if the employee does not receive holiday pay or thirteenth month salary.
- € 10,000 if an employee is paid less than minimum wage.
- € 12,000 if the wage specification is incorrect.
- If everything is not correct, the fine is € 40,000 per employee.
Why would you fine employer for paying in cash?
@@adamszuty6699 tax fraud
Correlate minimum wage with inflation / cost of living and you'll see exactly why there shouldn't be a minimum wage
@@Relaxatihon Or you could just introduce and rigorously enforce a culture of walking away from shitty salaries no matter what? That way; the worker has all of the control (like they probably should) and the employer still gets the work done if they need to get it done
Correlate all that, and you will see that slavery should not have been abolished. Slavery could eliminate unemployment, reduce inflation and attract investments back from China! 😃

let's not talk about italy.
Surprise to see some of the most generous social welfare countries Norway/Sweden/Finland do not have minimum wage.
How do they protect the livelihoods of the low income workers?
Norway don't have low income workers
Extra Money from state.
The unions have made low paying jobs high enough to be middle income in most countries
Nordics have strong workers' unions which negotiate the wages with the employers' union, so there is no need for nation wide minimum wage.
Minimum wage laws only harm low-income workers. Please read up on the econ or just search the topic on youtube
