The History of Minimum Wage in Asia (Monthly Salary Since 1995)

  • The video shows the timelapse of the history of minimum wage in Asia by country from 1995 to 2022. A minimum wage is the lowest remuneration that employers can legally pay their employees-the price floor below which employees may not sell their labor. Most countries had introduced minimum wage legislation by the end of the 20th century.

Its crazy how minimum wage in the US is only $1256.70. Despite it being higher than most of the other countries here, the average rent for a one bedroom apartment in the US $1098 per month. The average cost of food for a single person is $250-300 a month. Full time minimum wage isn't even enough for just food and shelter. Not to mention how inflation is currently skyrocketing with no increase in wages in sight.

For example, in the Soviet Union, which is hated to death all over the world, prices were constant, there was no inflation. A lot of these countries have an incredibly low cost of living ( I'd call it surviving rather than living in some of those countries). Necessities just don't cost as much in those countries compared to developed countries so that kinda justifies the wage. In China, breakfast typically costs about $1-3 for most people, and for $5 you can have a nice but average 1-person meal (1-2 entrees and 1 bowl of rice), but that doesn't mean what they're eating is trash, it just means that things don't cost as much and are priced proportionally to what they earn.

If Taiwan is not a member of some non-memory and foundry-oriented semiconductor companies led by TSMC, there are many people who are always living on low-variable low wages. In fact, at this point in time, it's the area where you can say that there's the biggest gap between the actual income level and the superficial benefit of exchange rate fluctuations, like the GDP or the ppp. This is because no matter how strong the Taiwanese dollar has become in terms of the US dollar since last year, the harsh reality does not change.

That’s because the sources picked for this video.
Taiwan’s official minimum wage in NT:
      2007 $17,280/m $95/h
      2022 $25,250/m $168/h
      46% 77% growth rate
In USD monthly wage has 60% growth
Most companies pay more than that in order to hire people actually.
Some sources don’t include Taiwan at all. Some put (China) like this one on purpose. Taiwanese are used to it.
Besides… except for buying houses, everything is pretty much cheep in Taiwan. … rent, tax, medications, education, food….

Some of the things that we can see in this video: South Asia is all really unanswered from an economic point of view. And it turns out that China is a country where the minimun wage level is not much different from that of Turkey, Iraq, or Jordan, except for very few Communist Party members or their family members, acquaintances, and high-ranking officials. Finally, Taiwan has had a lot of economic bubbles over the past two years due to the temporary boom in the foundry and non-memory markets, and the strength of the Taiwan dollar against the US dollar is still at its highest level since 1995, indicating that the overvaluation of the now gdp is really severe. In the end, still their actual net income and average wage level are quite low.

They built-up a $30 million temple in new jersey, instead of paying americans' labourers their worthy amount, they brought low caste slave people from india and gave them abysmal amount, almost close to slavery.
India is almost an apartheid in strict sense, villages are segregated on basis on castes and you can almost spot the difference by looking at quality of houses. Upper caste villages almost resembles like urban dwellings while low caste villages are like slums.
