    As a very happy owner of a Sol-Ark 15K with Homegrid 8-stack I can say that this system and setup is the one to get in Texas! It may not be the cheapest, but it is definitely the best setup you can have in a place where Net Metering is non-existent and self consumption is the name of the game. ROI on the battery is the same as it is on the rest of the system thanks to its ability to store excess solar and make you self consume it. If you're in Texas, a battery backup system is a must and nothing touches the Sol-Ark/Homegrid combo on the market today.

      Yes, sir. I agree with you. However, the warranties and service is where the extra cost is loaded into the system. There definitely are cheaper options on the market. Thanks for checking us out!

      Generac, assuming you install a Generac generator. There are several ATS’ in the market for different applications. Sol-Ark integrates with all of them to my knowledge.

      … so does HomeGrid and Storz Power, among other DC coupled batteries on the market.

    What keeps people on the grid in a city from going totally off grid? My understanding currently is that you can not go off grid if your home has been wired to the grid?

    • @allsolartexas
      @allsolartexas  Před rokem

      It depends on the utility. Some utilities (like co-ops) allow you to disconnect from the grid, others do not (like municipalities). Thanks for checking out the channel! Please subscribe.

    • @greg_takacs
      @greg_takacs Před rokem +2

      You may not be allowed to disconnect from the grid (I don't see how they can force it onto you) but they definitely can't compel you to use any of their power. Having said that, I see no benefit from disconnecting from the grid if the meter is already there and you're already connected. I guess the only argument could be to built an off-grid PV/battery setup that does not have grid-tie options, or you're trying to do it on your own without proper permitting and you don't want to obtain a PTO.
      Building for a completely off grid setup is generally very expensive and not worth the benefit if you have access to the grid. You'd be much better with a system that is optimized for 80% of your use case an augment it with the grid as needed.

    • @ThomMurphy
      @ThomMurphy Před rokem +1

      @Greg Takacs why 80%? Meaning, why not 100%, or 79% or 81%? I'm not trying to be a smartass, I'm genuinely curious.

    • @greg_takacs
      @greg_takacs Před rokem +3

      @@ThomMurphy it’s the 80-20 rule. You can get 80% of the coverage for 20% of the cost generally, no matter what the thing is.
      In terms of Solar, building a system that covers 100% of your energy use 100% of the time is incredibly expensive and requires mass amount of battery banks as well as PV sizing that will overproduce on most days. Without grid connection and net metering that is a very expensive PV panel that you only need a few times a year.
      For example, my worst case is winter freezing with full cloud coverage. My pool pumps and base load on the house draw 5kW of electricity so I use over 100kWh in a single day just to keep my pool equipment from freezing. If I want to cover 5 days of cloudy freezing weather I would need 500 kWh of storage. Instead I have 40kWh which covers most of my days and still rely on grid to pull me out of the two or three days of rough times.
      Again, the 80% wasn’t a hard number more of a figure of speech.

    • @allsolartexas
      @allsolartexas  Před rokem +1

      HomeGrid can easily scale and expand battery banks. For existing banks, the process is easier given that your PV system is already tied-in to your main panel and existing battery bank, but it really depends on what kind of inverter that you have.
