      lol - yep. I had to learn the hard way. A Belisle 220 crushed my finer. Nerve damage that resulted in numbness or over a year. I still have a curved finer as a result. A ten dollar safety would have prevented a lot of medical bills and a lot more misery.

    Awesome video! I have a raccoon and groundhog (and deer!!) infestation. Just bought a Duke 220 body trap, safety gripper, set tool, and a KB body trap stabilizer. Nothing comes with instructions and I'm totally unfamiliar with these devices. I got the trap set ok but the KB stabilizer had me stumped......until I watched your video. Even though you did not demo this stabilizer, once I saw the methods you did go over, I instantly got it. Thanks so much, just subscribed.

    Love the different ways to keep it standing. I had great success with the Pole and 2x4 Block on Single Spring 110. The only drawback I had with the 2x4's is the limited room in my backpack carrying all the sets. I will try some of the professionally made screw in stands like you had.

    • @Meattrapper
      @Meattrapper  Před 9 lety +2

      +TwoFeatherChannel Yep the 2x4's are bulky and the bricks are heavy. One trick is to try and pre place them ahead of season. You can hang them from trees to keep them from getting washed away in the off season. In the old days, a trapper could leave his traps hanging from trees all year and nobody would steal them. Times have changed. Take care sir and thank you for watching.

    Great instructional video, you are a blessing for those of us who are trying to get into trapping, I have coyotes coming after my dogs and coming out of my property and to my back and front yard constantly for the past year ( they used to stay out in my woods and fields that wasn't a problem) but they have been coming after dogs, can you make a coyote trapping video? There are some online but you are very clear to understand and follow your video.

Thank you for watching and thanks for the encouragement. After making videos for almost 5 years, ya get to where you think nobody is watching them anymore. I appreciate the kind words.

    Hi Meat Trapper.
    I have a question about those "Stakealizers". In your video it looks like the jaws were above the ground 1"+. Do you leave the trap jaws a inch or so above ground, or do you push the trap/stakealizer flush to the ground?
    Thanks for any info.

    • @Meattrapper
      @Meattrapper  Před 4 lety

      The idea is to have the trap at the animals head height so they enter the trap without bending down or climbing up. Hope that helps.

  • @Joe_Goofball
    @Joe_Goofball Před 9 lety +1

    Hello, again! At my age, I don't have the hand strength to set the larger (220 and 330) Conibears. I own them, but they're not really useful at this point. Is there a tool of some sort tnat will work? I bought one that looked like a reconfigured caulking gun made from cast aluminum, and it broke the second or third time I used it. The 330's are too big even for that tool. Also, the catalogs I have (Montgomery and Dakotaline) don't seem to carry the safety you have to keep traps from springing prematurely. The cheesy aluminum ones I got from Sportsman's seem to work okay, but yours looks more reliable. Where can I get any or all of this tooling? What part numbers or part names should I search out?

    • @Meattrapper
      @Meattrapper  Před 9 lety

      +Leonard Urban Hi Leonard, you can get the safety pin safety from FNTPost at www.fntpost.com/Products/Body+Grip+Trap+Safety+Pin . They are my preferred vendor. Always had great service for them. The cheap aluminum ones won't even fit a Belisle 330. The yellow one is by far the best I have ever used.
      As far as setters go - stay tuned. The next video in this series will be on using pans with conibears; and then the final video in the series will be on setters, self rescue, etc. Hopefully that final video will be of help.
      Great questions and thank you very much for watching and commenting.
