    Good content. That last trap you showed with the U for the safety. I'm thinking u could thread the ends and get a plate to put on the back side with some nuts. You don't have to tighten the nuts super tite. That way, you don't lose your safety or get bit. I'm new to trapping. I tuned in for the conibear traps. I like that chaulk gun setting tool. Thanks for the video

    For the long spring safety, just use good old fence staples, you can use them for attaching a chain to a tree also. As far as setting a long spring trap, especially the ones that I made a modification to them by adding another spring, you need to use a vice grip pliers or a channellock pliers work great. Just some helpful hints. That rope trick for the conibear is a good idea, I always have trouble setting my 220 conibears, but is there any way you can make the jaws on the 220 come together closer, because there is a 1 1/2" gap between the jaws, which does not work for squirrels.

  • @noturfather1106
    @noturfather1106 Před rokem +2

    I like longspring footholds cause you can use your feet to set em, but even 110 conibears are tough to set with just hands and bite the hell out of you setting them. I should get one of those yellow safeties

    I'm a 30 year old timber faller, I'm strong as can be I use setters because I slipped once and lost control of a 330 spring and my pinky finger ended up between the spring eye and jaw corner, it made me start using setters as often as I remember them

    It's funny, there was a short that Dunlap lures put out somewhat recently where they were filming an example video and on of the camera crew or helpers they had with them managed to set off a 220 with the toe of his boot. Luckily he had smooth leather steel toes on so the toe catch was enough to hold that big critter.

Officer Kyle Walling from TWRA texted me that he (and others I assume) are teaching a trapping course at the Bridgestone WMA in White County on Feb 18th. I wish you would come bro. Would love to meet you and share some experience. I am just lacking something when it comes to bobcats so want to go. Hope to see you there.-Paul D. Dodson

    Instead of the replacement clips use a piece of 1/4" flat steel and cut a groove to make your clip, then cable one to each trap.

    If interested there is one heck of a crossbow deal going on now at Centerpoint on the cp400 versions. 40% off with code: CPFORME
    It's basically very similar to RAVEN and same company or sister company. Uses same Helicoil style cams. I've heard a lot of good with this model as well. Quick, accurate, maneuverable in tree stands and blinds with 10" axle to axle, and only 13" of stroke. Weight of it isn't bad either. Got until Dec. 31 while supplies last.

    Dear Trapper Tim,
    I am sorry about you having surgery, but alas I have had 7 major back surgeries and two knee replacements so totally understand. I was just curious as to what you think is the reason that all my traps have gone cold. Would you yank them all out and reset elsewhere or would you just move them over about 4-5 feet away (as many other trappers on CZcams have suggested)? I hope you are healthy now brother.-Paul

    • @Meattrapper
      @Meattrapper  Před rokem

      Thats hard to answer without knowing a lot more, what are you trapping, what traps are you using, etc etc. Animals can get trap shy, lure shy and location shy. When all else fails, a blind foothold set is one that animals will never get shy of. As long as they are not location shy, the blind foothold set is the one they have no defense against.

      @@Meattrapper Hi Tim, I am trying to get coyote, beaver, otter and bobcat. I already caught a beaver and coyote there on a 50acre tract I have permission on. I used Clint Locklear's "The Hammer". I use MB 550s and some Dukes. MBs are my favorite by far. I have not really trapped for 39-40 years and have terrible arthritis. Hope you and family are healthy.-Paul

    I'm into my 8th decade (damnit) and, on a good day, I can rassle set 2 out of my 3 Bridger #3 double long springs. Love those traps but the wife disapproves of me teetering on my brink out in the woods alone. I've used big C clamps to compress and little C clamps to retain but that's time consuming and adds clutter. I'm toying with a design to cobble together but I'd think I ain't the only guy that ever wished for a safe simple labor saver.
    This modified caulk gun thing looks good but I'd need 2 of them or to find a supply of little keepers to lose.(fence staples maybe?)
    Anyway, every other time I've tried to reinvent the wheel, I find someone has beat me to it in a way that makes me feel stupid.
    So, is this the selection? Or does someone know of a super whizz bang, universal, double long spring trap setter?
    Thanks for any help.

    • @Meattrapper
      @Meattrapper  Před rokem

      They are not strong enough to stand up to repeated use. The RTS setter is built from the ground up as a trap setter. Compressing and holding the springs on a conibear requires more force and entails more stress than squeezing a tube of calk.
