On the British 1937 pattern carriers, the Skeleton carriers were issued Pre and early WW2 and again Post WW2, the sleeve pattern carriers were made for ease of WW2 manufacture. These come in two lengths three quarter and full length. Not to be confused with the mostly pre war, but often seen dated 1940, Cavalry pattern carriers.
I think you would find the mostly post WW2 copies / interpretations of US 1910 Canteens and covers interesting to collect.
Britsh 1944 pattern, used in Malaya, Aden and by some ANZAC troops in Vietnam. Favoured by the British Paras and SAS.
Some interesting French, US Canteens used with French made covers, First ones belt loops too small for belts ! Then own Canteen design, Late 1st Indochina war.Larger 1.2 Litre Canteen Cover with new strap and 1910 hook for Algeria etc.
Dutch, Belgian, Austrian and Norwegian takes on US 1910 Canteens and covers interesting subject too.

I have an American canteen, about the same condition as their best condition one, with the cup and canteen dated 1918, the cover date number is hard to distinguish either 1940s or 1918, but it looks like a 1941 cover, but where is the best place to sell it?

I have a fancy German pottery canteen and I can't find another one like it. How do you know the value?

I recently bought a German pin.
It has a totenkopf with a dagger through the center of the skull. Do you know what it was awarded for?
EDIT: So it turns out, the pin isn't even a real thing. It's actually a fantasy roleplaying pin from Britain in the 60s-70s.

23:26 I've heard that type of canteen carrier was popular in the north African campaign because it hid the green wool which stood out.
canteens are quite an interesting collecting subject.

No. Post is the prefix for after or later. Postwar means after the war.
