    As an arctic infantry scout in the 1980s, I am very familiar with the round canteens. Once I had the plastic stopper come out and splashed water down my leg on a very cold day, field pants with liners and long johns soaked through.
    They worked well in -10° to -20 Fahrenheit, some freezing around the cap, but you could break through with a stick and there would be liquid below.
    By the way, I only know of the cotton canvas cover.

      Uhh 🥶🥶🥶. That's cold 🥶. I like the round ones best, but still need to get some experience using the cold weather one. Hey thanks for commenting and watching 😁

    Ranger Canteen is a Commercial only item
    Ability One/Skilcraft is the US issue Canteen
    In the late 1990s The USMC had a trial wide mouth M1962 Canteen used at their Mountain Warfare Training Center (can't remember manufacturer)
    Cover contract date is 2022 as per the contract number on the label (W911QY22C0036)
    Arctic Canteen M1951 made from 1951 to at least 1986
    M1951 I don't know where this aluminum idea came from (not the first time i have heard this), stainless steel inner & outer cup is also stainless
    M1951 cover is the same but comes with 3 different attachment methods M1910 Hook, ALICE Clips, & 1 with both M1910 & ALICE
    I love the extra research you did on the M88 something new I learned today

      Thank you for the information. I appreciate it😎💯👍. I was wondering if the ranger canteen was commercial, but the pouch for it has a NSN number. So I'm not sure. There is so much neat history on these. I've heard both on the Arctic canteen being aluminum or stainless steel also. Hey thanks for watching

    Those are neat! I know the last generation of canteen that the Canadian Army had was the same size as the USGI standard one but insulated. It also wasn't issued with the cup at all if I remember right.

      I have the Canadian insulated canteen. The lid works as a cup. It will keep tea hot in -40 for 12 hours.

      They are. I would love to find the 1st Gen one just to display. I've seen the Canadian insulated canteens haven't pull the trigger on one yet, but they do look bomb proof though. Thanks for watching 😎💯👍

    Great video, Scotty. Last year I was able to get the Arctic Canteen (the round one). It was new in the box. The plastic cap on mine was cracked too. I used some Gorilla Super Glue in the crack and put it in a vise and let it sit overnight and it sealed up the crack very well. I ended up finding the canvas cover and cup from a different website. Last week I just found out about the Gen ll canteen on Blackie Thomas' channel. Had no idea they existed. Would love to get my hands on one of those with the cup and cover. 👍👍

    • @scottysurvival
      @scottysurvival  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Nice. Ya I was supprised about the cracks being a part of the process on the caps. But yours should be fine. The cold weather canteen is pretty neat. Probably going to have to get out and do a freeze test comparison with the Arctic canteen and cold weather canteen. Thanks for watching and commenting Jeff🤗👍💯

    Crack is for pressure relief,
    80,000 feet the pressure builds internaly and it breaks canteens vacuam seal
    Canteen that froze probley lost its vacuam seal
    Be Well

    Good video, what we used to do as kids camping in the winter was to use the lc1 and 2 canteen cover with the pile lining than if it was to cold we would put them inside our m65. What I did once issued molle unlined canteen covers was to use a wool scock over the canteen with a bit to cover the lid. Cheap and effective. Hope this works out for you. Also put canteens at bottom of sleeping bag(if you use one) to stay warm over night. Hey keep up the good videos and work.

    • @scottysurvival
      @scottysurvival  Před 9 měsíci +1

      The wool sock would work great. I usually put them at end of sleeping bag, but had tested the Arctic canteen leaving it out in elements to test it. I'm definitely going to try the wool sock though. Thanks for watching and commenting 😎💯👍
