    This is a Motormouth couple car review of the updated 2022 VW Jetta GLI. The 2022 Volkswagen GLI is one of the true car bargains in the auto industry, coming fully loaded for one reasonable price.It has a 2L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with a standard 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual clutch transmission, 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. FWD only and this GLI requires premium fuel.
    What’s New for 2022? The GLI now comes with only one trim and it’s loaded, it’s quite an affordable sporty option. Just like the Jetta, it also has new technology, a standard 10.25” Volkswagen Digital Cockpit, updated interior design elements including a new steering wheel. The exterior styling gets a fresh look with new front and rear bumpers, new colours and unique wheel designs for each trim.
    The GLI comes with a sports suspension, dynamic chassis control with driver profile selection, electronically-controlled torque sensing limited-slip differential, adaptive damping system, an ECO driving mode, 16” rear disc brakes and 17” front disc brakes with red calipers. The automatic transmission gets the start/stop system with regenerative braking. It’s quick, agile and responsive and with the adaptive damping system, the ride is compliant.
    The interior is modern and clean with chrome accents and stainless steel pedals, 8” touchscreen, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, wireless charger, keyless entry and push button start, power driver seat with memory and lumbar support, leather seating surfaces, heated and ventilated front sports seats with red stitching, a sunroof, 8-speaker BeatsAudio sound system and ambient lighting with 10 colour options.
    For fuel economy, the manual gets 9.1L/100km, 26 MPG city and 6.4L/100km, 37 MPG highway. The DCT 9L/100km, 26 MPG city and 6.5L/100km, 36 MPG highway.
    Volkswagen offers a warranty of 4 years or 80,000 km/50,000 miles. In the US, complimentary maintenance is covered for 2 years or 20,000 miles.
    The GLI manual starts at $31,895 CAD/$32,290 USD and the DCT $33,295 CAD /$33,090 USD.

    It’s definitely a deal. After 18 months ownership of my ‘21 6MT Autobahn (which comes standard for ‘22) - I have to say, it has everything I need and nothing I don’t. I just got back to LA from taking all the way north to Mendocino County - where there are hundreds of miles of twisty mountain roads. The GLI performs admirably on the twisties- it could have better standard tires, and the body roll is a little pronounced (ie it’s not a 911), but for the price and practicality - avg. 37hwy - fully comfortable 5-seater-massive trunk - I’ll take it all day long! The creature comforts too - heated/cooled front seats, panoramic sunroof, adaptive cruise control, amazing brakes, leather, Apple:Android (with wireless charging) - I feel completely comfortable and happy. And so do my friends who ride with me. It’s comfy, classy, fast, and nimble. I love it!

    I have had a GLI since 2019. It’s a blast of a car. Mine costed me over-all 26k. Btw the GLI is very underrated. The 228HP figure is to the wheels. This car has been dynoed by me and multiple other people at 257HP. This car has been raced against the civic si 210HP and Elentra N line and won both of them with ease. This car also currently holds a better timing around the track than a BRZ or a civic SI, tested by car and driver lightning lap magazine! Those who test this car and push it know it’s a very good car

    We just got ours up the road in Hamilton this week. This is a great car for my wife. She was looking at the higher jetta trim and the fact that the gli came in the kings red was what sold her immediately. The only problem was we ordered it in December and it just came now. Now to see how much longer my r takes which was ordered the week earlier... oh, and yeah I think we will be using the black wheels for our winters as well 🤣

    I drove the 2022 gti and a 2021 gli. I couldn't tell that there was much of a difference - they both fly. And the GLI was actually faster in a track session, although it had better rubber. I'm leaning toward GLI. Plus, I like the sleeper look and for $1300, you can install an aftermarket downpipe with a stage 2 engine tune and get 330 hp out of it.
    Oh, and the new wrx - nice manual, smooth power, but unimpressive for a larger displacement and more power. I believe the GLI is faster and gets better mileage.

      I'm not sure I follow? The GLI has considerably more practical trunk storage with the rear seats upright than the GTI does, and the rear seat leg room is greater in the GLI, as well. I think the GTI only wins the storage comparison if one is regularly hauling tall objects. And even then, the rear seats would probably have to be folded down in the GTI. (don't get me wrong .. I would consider a GTI over our GLI if we didn't have a family and all of our gear to haul around!)

    Black wheels - there must be savings in maybe lower cost preparation of them or something. My Elantra - I test drove a black one and told my brother to ignore the black and the exterior look as I am just looking for the driving experience (every dealer bad mouthed the look). A week later when it got down to seeing if the numbers we talked about would convert to the paper work they only had red and black - all the non-metallic greys and beige's were long gone. Did not want to choose really, but at the last moment - it came to me that black pulls in those wheels and grill which I was not certain of .. so ended up with literally my least desired colour. It was fine, and did make the wheels and grill present better; stunning in fact -- just tough to wash -- sun dries it just too fast, so I have to rush.

    Quite often if ever, reviewers/vloggers don't mention that the rated 228hp comes from (recommended) premium gas while the car can use regular gas which results in lower hp stats. This has become quite common in modern turbocharged engines. It's sort of like getting the best mpg number while running with windows up and no a/c on a hot summer day. The delivery time is way more than 2 months. I ordered the exact car they are driving on 27th Dec 2021...blue with manual transmission. The car just arrived at Hamilton VW...was scheduled to arrive 18th to 24th Aug so it was delivered from entry point early. VW Canada will not help other than say contact your dealer. The delay screwed my plans and I had to buy another car in June for my wife as my son was getting her old one for work commuter. Also the rates I got were 2.49% it is now 6.99 to 7.89% through VW.

    This is an excellent review but the very reasonable MSRP is a bit misleading. These days, dealers consistently charge way over the MSRP and it’ll take at least 6 months to get delivery. Dealers do it ‘cause they can - the demand for these cars way exceeds the supply. You can reduce the price by looking for a ‘22 pre-owned. 6 speed manuals are much harder to find than the DSG.

    • @peirs3071
      @peirs3071 Před 7 měsíci +1

      I think they made this review from a Canadian perspective, where dealers can't charge more than MSRP like they do in the states. Canadian dealer might tack on a bunch of extra accessories to the advertised price but you can request to have the removed and just pay MSRP.
