this is so chill, just watching 2 kindly men have a good time. greetings from Warnemünde, Germany
Your German pronunciation is really impressive!
Thanks!
So happy to see Satoshi-san enjoying German beer 🍻
I saw they were walking past the Cologne Beer Museum around the 7:40 mark in the video. The sign "Bier Museum" was quite visible right above the van on the right side of the street. They should have gone in there. Well, maybe they did. 😉
@@jensmoellenhoff 😅
@@jensmoellenhoff That place is really just a pub with a variety of beers. The name is a bit decieving.
I always find it thrilling when people experience my homeland's culture - glad you enjoyed it! One time I was actually surprised to find a curry sauce quite similar to the ketchup-based currywurst sauces in Japan - in a (conveyor belt) sushi restaurant no less. It was topping a hambagu nigiri. Sure struck me as bizzarre. While sauces for currywurst are usually made in-house, if you can find a bottle of "Hela Curry-Gewürzketchup" in the supermarket, that works really well as a commercial solution for home use.
Kirsch is cherries in German. Kir as in 'kir royale' refers to a liqueur (cassis) made with black currants.
Kir Royal is such a retro drink.
@@superlynnie Still delicious. I have a bottle of creme de cassis in my drinks cabinet and sometimes treat myself to a kir royale with sparkling wine.
ur in my hometown! koelsh beer is great on hot sunny days coz it so light and refreshing - can drink 10 of those lol. So happy to see u enjoy the food! Safe travels!!
Satoshi's "wow" at the end! Amazing.
Wow, I can't believe you two were in Germany!
It is a pleasure to watch you discover and eat these typical German dishes. You are both so heartwarming and positive. Thank you for this great video!
I live close to Cologne, used to transit past the city each day on my way to university and saw the Cologne cathedral each day. It is such a common sight for me, so it never occured to me that it was that impressive to others!
Btw, I had to laugh at the “Satoshi loves trains and he could spend literal hours and hours here” because with how often the Deutsche Bahn is cancelled or delayed, it is sadly a very real possibility to be stranded at the train station for hours... 😅
So happy to see you guys visit Germany, I hope you had a great time! 🥰
Coming from the other side of the globe and having a good Sauerbraten for the first time in your life in a decent restaurant sounds like a really good experience.
1:43 oh the Groß St. Martin in the back :) My favourite building on Köln :)
Halve Hahn can be translated as half chicken. Normally, it is served as a half Röggelchen (rhye roll) with cheese. Rumors say that a customer once asked „Kann ich noch ne halve Han“ in Kölsch (can I get another half). A half rotisserie chicken in German is Halbes Hähnchen
Oh, you were in Germany?! I moved back from Northrhine-Westfalia to Saxony. Rievkooche is the thing I miss most, especially in christmas market season. There are potato pancakes in Saxony as well, but they taste different. You have to try thuringian sausages and thuringian potato dumplings. They are the best in all of Germany! By the way, original Rheinischer Sauerbraten is made of horse meat (but most restaurants use beef. I know a restaurantin Bonn, that uses the original reciept). And the tenderness of the Sauerbraten comes from marinating the meat for at least three days ( up to several weeks) in a marinade made of vinegar and several spices.
That crispy potato pancake looks and sounds delicious!
It actually is pretty nice. If you ever get the chance, try it :)
This combination used in several dishes and called "heaven (apple) and earth (potatoes)"
I grew up in Cologne, spent my school and university days there. When I got my doctorate´s degree, I moved away for job raesons and I have been back only once - 30 Years ago. Boy, that city has changed!
Nest part of this was the bridge with you wanting to get a lock to prove your undying lobe for each other. Guys, you don't have to probe anything, its clear as day ❤❤
Satoshi since I was a child every day after school I’d make potato like the ones you had, I use a cheese grater to grate my potatoes and fry them up 😋
Kartoffelpuffer/Reibekuchen mit Apfelmus 🤩🤩
"Bratwurst" is a real treat here in Germany. One of my favourites
Your shots of the Cathedral really put it in perspective. I knew it was tall, but not _that_ tall! 😄 Wonderful architechture all around. I'm glad Satoshi got to watch the trains for a while--maybe next trip you can leave a love lock on the bridge. The food looked hearty. The crunch of the Reibekuchen was amazing. I bet the free one tasted extra yummy. 😆 Thank you both for another fun tour of a great European city and its food. 💖💖
I've been to Cologne countless times, really love the city. The cathedral is just something else. No matter how many times you've seen it, it still floors you when you step out of the train station. It's hard to capture on pictures or video just how massive it is. Makes you feel so tiny.
Hi Shinichi and Satoshi good to see y'all l love your food hauls video awesome views The bridges that so nice the love y'all share take care yummie food 😘😘❤️👍💯🌈🙏😍🤩🥰🌹🌹
So happy you tried the food of Germany! I love potato dumplings, red cabbage, sauerkraut, and dark breads like rye and pumpernickel. Reminds me of what I used to eat on special occasions growing up since my family is primarily Polish and Czech. Also the beers are amazing!
Dumplings are balls of bread dough cooked in the stew/casserole. Mashed potato can be added to the dumplings for a much richer texture.
Now I’m checking flights to Cologne 😂. Everything looked so delicious. Thanks for sharing!!
One of the very objective video tours about Cologne. Everything is correct.
Your travel videos always make me hungry. My wife is German and she is cooking tonight. Sausage, fried potatoes and red cabbage washed down with German beer. Another great effort as usual! Best wishes to you and all your loved ones!!!
I hope you visited nearby Düsseldorf as well, which has its own Japantown (Immerman Strasse and surrounding area, right in front of the train station) 🙂
They don't need that 😅
You two guys were well informed! There's nothing better on a cold day than leaving the central station, looking to the left to the Dome of Cologne, then looking foreward, going to the glas cabin, where the lady fries the potatoe cakes, buying three - plus apple sauce - and while eating this delicious food looking at the Dome and having a little chat with God the almighty ...
Hope you tried a Mettbrötchen befor you left
Yes, reibekuchen is normally served with applesauce. It is a nice little snack or light lunch that is popular in many areas of Germany. I grew up with it being served in the summer as a light lunch.
I still make curry wurst regularly now that I live in the US. You can find the ingredients for the sauce online and I usually use a grilled red sausage (smoked sausage). On special occasions I will fix sauerbraten since that has to marinate several days in the fridge and then I also serve it with red cabbage and potato dumplings. You covered a good number of typical dishes during the Cologne video.
Seeing you guys going about our german food as i usually do with asian food delights me in a way i cannot really describe. Cheers from germany
You guys make us very proud! Frankfurt is my home town, you must try a very interesting speciality: "Frankfurter Grüne Soße". It is a sauce with at least 7 different herbs, it is said that Goethe liked it very much 😊The weekly market in the morning and the Kleinmarkthalle are definitely something for you! Have fun in Germany!
perfect timing for this to be my bed time video.
The view up there is beautiful
The cathedral is indeed very impressive. I always love to check it out when I’m there.
How good of you to order the Reibekuchen in German! The extra one is well deserved!! Pronunciation was spot on. Dennis loves them, mostly in the classic way with applesauce. For me, they are too greasy.
Currywurst is my absolute favorite. I love to try the homemade sauces which are different at every vendor. Love to make it myself at home nowadays as well (but then vegetarian 😅).
Kir Royale is actually a popular French drink. It is indeed with cherries.
I would not say no to a Kölsch beer, haven’t had it in quite a while.
Sauerbraten is indeed very famous and a local speciality. Dennis had the classic version with horse meat, but it’s very hard to find nowadays and people tend to dislike the thought of it. The sourness can be overwhelming but it’s a very special signature dish. The potato dumplings(Klöße) are amazing, always have a stash at home from Germany. 😅
It was so great to see you experience Cologne. Makes me crave a lot of yummy German food. Luckily, we will be in Munich next month where they have many other regional specialities. I would also love to join you on a German food trip one day!
Humanity will probably never build anything like it again.
Maybe one day the church will be rebranded by some Corporate name, like “Staples Stadium” *cough*
We really enjoyed Cologne and would be awesome to visit Germany again together.
Kir royale is made with cassis which is blackcurrant liquer. The cocktail is champagne and cassis. It all looked yummy.
Love your channel, didnt realize you where in my home city, Rieevkooche 🥰 Kölsch and Sauerbraten, you did it right 👍
Greetings from Cologne 👋
One other Popular dish here , i dont sure you know, is "Himmel un Ääd" in German "Himmel und Erde" eng: "Heaven and Earth" its Mashed Potatoes, Applesauce and fried black pudding.
Wow! So honored to have you here in Germany. Northern Germany here. My grandma who was originally from the Rheinland used to make a fantastic Sauerbraten 😋
Das Kölsch ging offensichtlich auch runter wie Wasser 😂
Nice to know some of the tasty German foods, they looked very meaty and heavy. Quite the opposite of traditional lighter Japanese dishes. A culture exchange, this vlog was interesting and informative! Thank you! I Can not wait to travel back to Europe. 😋
You guys really like the sausage.
🙈
🦄
I loved the expression on your face when you tasted the sauerbraten!
You don't need a lock to prove your undying love for each other. I'm sure all the viewers will agree, we see it every time you post your videos. Love your channel. Watching your channel is literally the highlight of my day.
こんにちは🙌お二人のケルン旅がとても素敵で楽しさが伝わってきて😊私も行きたくなりました🤸上品なお二方ですね👍
嬉しいコメント、ありがとうございます😊
Nice to See that you like „ Rievkooche“ just like we do! ❤
Thanks guys, now I've seen you and walked right over to my local BBQ place. A bratwurst had to be now.
15:39 omg, one of the best dishes in germany... whenever Im unsure about what food to get in a restaurant, you can never go wrong with a nice sauerbraten.
oh my goodness I had to pause the video and google why the Cologne cathedral took that long to build!!! Thanks for the little history lesson :)
It was a pleasure to watch how you explore my home town. You are so nice guys. Btw. Kir Royal is a mix of Champagner an Black Current juce. The Rheinischer Sauerbraten is today made of beef, which was for a week in a mix of whine and viegar. Not to far in the past we used horse meat for the original Sauerbraten.
Lovely sightseeing tour! Lots of amazing things to see and the food looked delicious!!! 😃😋❤
All I know is I have been following you too for the last 2 years and I can't believe how far you have come all over the world you are. Just everything to me and both make me smile and I love every time you go on a trip. You just take us on to the journey with you and it's always special thank you for sharing
So happy to see you enjoying Germany and our food. The potato pancakes or Reibekuchen (at my place, I live near Dortmund (50km away) and Warstein (where the Warsteiner Brewery is, it's just around the corner) we call them Kartoffelpuffer are very easy to make.
For 4 Persons:
1000g rare peeled potatoes
2 eggs
2 onions
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon grounded black pepper
1 tsp. Lemon juice
1 dash of nutmeg
Oil for the pan 20:25
Grind the potatoes into a sieve, after that press the water out and put the potatoes into a bowl. Grind the onions aswell into that bowl, put the eggs, salt, pepper, lemon juice and nutmeg into that bowl and mix it toghter with a wooden spoon. Heat up the Oil in a pan and give a tablespoon of the mass into the pan and flatten it out like it's 5mm till 8mm thick. Depends on how big the pan is (we can make 3 pancakes at once) wait till it's getting brown downside then flip it over to the other side till it's brown and ready are the potatoe pancakes serve it with apple sauce
So happy you guys enjoyed Reibekuchen, it’s definitely a highlight for me whenever I go the christmas markets in Cologne!
As embassador of Cologne let me say: Thank you!
Go and visit Regensburg 😍 the most beautiful city in germany 🥰🥰
I am german and watched a lot of videos from you two 1-2 years before and now youtube suggests me one where you are here about 50 km next to me??? How cool is that? You really chose well what to eat, great choices! So happy you both liked it. 😍
The Currywurst has not a real Curry on top - it's Curry-Ketchup, very popular with grilled meat in Germany. The Sauerbraten is also one of my favorite dishes along with Rouladen - red cabbage is very common in german cuisine for all kinds of potato + meat dishes. Not many like it - but thankfully you do
Ahhhh stay tuned for them later in the year. I ended up being sick during my stay in Frankfurt so we will go back in October
@@TabiEats Oh no, thats sad. Hope it didn't leave a bad impression on your visit in germany :( !!! I will definitely stay tuned, exited to see your next visit here. Greetings from Bochum, Germany!!!
I first wrote a comment before i watched the end of the video, that you have to eat the Sauerbraten, because i never thought you would eat it. Everybody eats southern dishes most of the time. But my favourite german dish actually is Sauerbraten. Im kind of happy.
Part of my family lives in Cologne and you guys gave a lot of tips for me to try once I'm back in July for the annual Pride Parade. I always go to the Früh Kölsch Restaurant and get the Heaven and Earth dish. It's my favorite. You should consider coming to the Pride Parade as well. It's amazing. :) Also: Your pronounciation is really not bad. ^_^
Yummy! Reibekuchen look like latkes (also with apple sauce or sour cream) in North America. The chocolate looks divine, and the beef with almond slivers looks really good! I liked Satoshi's "Wow..." at 18:18. Great food tour!
Was für sympathische Typen! Die jute Zig in Kölle, jejönnt!
The cathedral is pretty
ALL delicious and great architecture.
So excited to see you exploring my home turf! You can buy locks and have them engraved at souvenir shops around the city centre.
It has been years since I've been there, something like 16 years ago. Fun to see it back.
Did you get to go inside the cathedral? Gothic architecture is incredible; It's priceless.
OMMMMG, when you guys bit into the reibekuchen, I was salivating and imagining eating it with sour cream and the applesauce....yum yum! Love you guys, keep up with the great content!!!
People of Japan 🇯🇵 You are always welcome in Germany 🇩🇪
Hi from Cologne, lovely to see you liked Cologne and our specialitys ❤
Safe travels Shinichi and Satoshi! You don't need a lock to prove your undying love for each other, you can see it in your faces :D
Thank you, Guys. Always a pleasure to look your videos 😃❤❤❤
You're a cute couple, glad you enjoyed the stay in Cologne.
All the best.
It is actually the tallest and biggest „cathedral“. However it’s not the tallest church, that’s ones in Ulm, also Germany
I just knew when he was asked about the favourite thing that the answer would be "Beer!" 🙂
I'm happy you like it in Germany.
Try a Mettbrötchen with onions. ^^
I live almost 2 hours away (with train) from Cologne but I love this city. Love the people there. The craziest time for a Cologne visit is the fifth season of the year "Karneval"
You are just such a cute couple! I know, being all affectionate is not what you do all the time on camera, but still, in this video, being on that bridge I just wanted to give a lock to you!
(Fun fact: I just found a bridge where I live with locks on them, and I was like - what is this?? Never seen, don't know. But, now, watching this video, we might see something less splendid, but still in the same meaning and making - possibly ?? - here in Gothenburg. That's pretty amazing, how people make public spaces their own! :)
When you take mashed potatoes and put applesauce under it, it´s typical german too. It´s called: Himmel und Erde/ in cologne slang: Himmel und Ääd means Heaven(Apple) and Earth (Potatoes)! We eat it in Cologne with fried Bloodsausage/ Blutwurst! The roll is a "Röggelchen" a roll made with rye flour, and one piece are two of them together like siamtwins! and the story goes that in the middleage anyone want not two of them. and the waiter ask: Willste ne Halve Han?/ do you want a half one! The Rheinische Sauerbraten was in former times a meal for poor people they made it with horsemeat. at the most locations is it with beef. The meat has been inserted for one week in a vinegar marinade with onions and some herbs!
It made me happy to see Satoshi enjoying Kōlsch. Kōlsch was the first beer I had when visiting Germany as I was in Cologne as well. It's not a typical German lager, but it's very light and tasty.
You two are amazing.
Beautiful place to unwind ❤
It's a lot of fun to see you explore places I've also been to! It brings back memories!
Köln! I got the Eau de Cologne straight off, from the river. Then food much like the video.
this was beautiful
You guys are so wholesome! ❤
You guys are so sweet! 😊 Loved your reaction to the food.
I loved this episode guys. Food choices were outstanding and looked so delicious. Look forward to more. Thank you
I miss all that food. So yummy
Kir is cherries put into alcohol. You've got that one just right! Also, for eating western dishes - make sure every "spoon full" has all the elements on them -as they're meant to be together, not separately eaten. ^^ The dumplings were your "french fries" so to speak for this dish. And they really need the meat and sauce for flavor to work, much like french fries needs a dip XD
Perfect Video with Location link. Good for people like me PLANNING to Travel to Cologne Good JOB Happy Traveling
love it, thanxs for that👏👏👏😉😘😘😘
Thank you for some tips for cologne
A short trip but you made the most of it! Everything looked delicious!
