  • Eric here with Pro-Rebuild back with another video. This time, we showcase our custom Ford EEC-IV ECM/PCM Engine computer tester! This testing rig allows us to test several key circuits inside these failure prone PCMs to both verify condition and prove our repair! This applies to
    1991-1995 Ford F-150
    1991-1997 Ford F250 and F350 Gasoline only
    1992-1996 Ford E150, E250 and E350
    1993-1994 Ford Ranger
Many common symptoms of a bad PCM in your vehicle would be:
    -Cranks no start
    -one dead injector bank
    -Fuel pump stuck on
    -Won't idle
-Check engine light on but no codes stored.
    -Improper reference voltage
There are some other less common failures but we cover as much as possible when testing these.
So you think yours is bad, and you want a new one, what do you need to know before you buy?
As mentioned in the video, the part number is paramount! This part number identifies both the year and model, along with the engine, transmission and calibration. The part number is found on the white tag on the connector and will look something like "F4TF-12A650-PB".
If your vehicle has an aftermarket remanufactured pcm, theres a good chance the part number will be missing from the pcm. Sometimes, you will find the 4-digit strategy code on a sticker on the door jamb, or on the cowl depending on your vehicle. If none of this information is present, please contact us and we'll try to narrow down your search.
Many of these are VERY hard to find, and we are often out. In some cases, it is possible to repair yours.
A multimeter or a volt meter will get you very far in diagnosing a bad pcm. Hope this video helps and if you're looking to purchase, we can be reached at:

This is cool that y'all's doing this love it.. I've got a few of these trucks and I put a computer from a automatic in a manual and has worked for over 15 years. The check engine light is on but no issues running or driving. They were the same motors at least lol. I wouldn't have even tried to do a manual to auto but other way around ship it lol.

Hi Sarah, I’m really not sure if you’ll even see this reply or not but I have a 1994 manual ranger and when I bought it its always had an issue with the ecm where it just will not start after driving/turning the ignition too many times in a day and I’ve tried ordering a new ecm and it made it run awful and so I had to put the old one back in, when I opened up the old ecm when I had it out I took some pictures but nothing appeared to have a bad connection or no capacitors leaking, I’m really not sure what it could be and I have no clue how I could find a perfectly working ecm that’s exactly for my Ranger stx 6cyl 4.0 manual, seeing your comment on this video and watching your ranger videos you made made me assume that you had a similar problem with your ecm, I was wondering if you have any input you could help me with? Thank you in advance if you do end up finding this

We have a 95 Power Stroke that is having throttle issues. First time it revved up all by itself with no one in the truck. Now about every half hour it starts rattling smoking, and looses all power. We were scanning it thru one of these episodes and the injector pulse width goes from 1.2 to 5.5! We tried a rebuild IDM and it won't even start. :D

Hi stupid questions time. I have a 1994 f150 l6 5 speed.Last year during al this covid stuff I lost the fuel pump part of the eec.
This a ca. truck according to the emission sticker.Instead of using the info on the door jamb< I pulled the eec and showed it
to the local auto part chain store to have them match it.Can a manual trans truck run on a auto eec ? supposedly they matched the eec.
    door jam says F3AE 6E081 HHD.Calibration 3-51-R10. old eec the one I pulled out says F3TF 12A 650 NC.
I believe they tried to match by application . I could never get the idle below 1000 rpm.Lately on start up hot or cold idle swings up to 2000 rpm then drops to 1000.Check engine light works and is not on.Passed smog a week ago.
I dug up my old OTC 4000. It can do the KOEO test only and comes up with all kinds of auto trans codes Will not communicate when I try to do KOER or select show data . I clicked on path finder the help on the scanner . I get just because your vehicle runs on this eec doesn`t mean it is correct for application ?.
Any advise on how I should proceed ? Thanks

Its not a absolute but from my experiance it could be the ecu is going. I THINK its either water getting in from the rotting body seal in the cowl amd dripping on the wires or just goes bad naturally

Oh and I also got to say this man it's not 100% critical about the matching identification numbers lol not joking my computer every so many months will fry itself the ignition control module or the coil rarely but I could not keep spending $200 so I found computers that were relatively close to what I have you know v8s same firing order relative same year you know keeping it close and well I've got one in right now I've got another one under receiving my truck and I'll probably went through about three more and I'm trying to find out what is making it burn blow before you're seeing anything I have put in probably $2,000 worth of new and remand computers The trucks got a lot of sentimental value to me so I'm stupid and don't want to let it go That's why if you look a little further down in the comments just send me asking about upgrading the computers by replacing all the parts inside to see if it can make more power

Yes some computers will get can get you running but are not the correct ones, matching part numbers is the best way to make sure it works.

the calibration code may also define if it needs a push-start or tfi ignition module in the years of crossover. the PIP signal and what goes to the ecm or from it. But, the wiring pinout is NOT The same and the pcm can very well nade a module and coil or the module sends something to the PCM on the wrong pin, and its also without the resistor that the other system has.
      SOOOOOOO
You need to get a proper TFI or Push start module (black vs grey) and also MATCH to your PCM calibration on the truck and make sure it matches the drive train, THEN any updated cals from Ford

also a c6 computer wont do very well in e40od since brake light circuitry is different and the pcm is not worried about shift points... also cruise being on the system affects how it reacts to certain inputs and in a c6, the manual tv valve controls line pressure and it controls parameters TO influence line pressure through different means than where it can use the epc or in the 4r whatever, its got more than e4od.
point is match your year range usually 91-93, 94-95, 96, 96-97(F250 HD only), emissions commie or states, drive train in its entirety, chassis similarity like no C&C in a step side , air density / maf, vin cut off in relation to tsbs, some may cut off really weird spots even same year trucks, and then sure you can if its similar. the problem with eec iv is how universal the base components are which is why its also so cool and desireable. The things that might mean BIG from one to anoter arent able to be self-diagnosed with regards to components, its not meant to discriminate severely and its also capable of seeming fine when its costly damaging. the data reading is low, and its not tracking long term trends quite like they do now, etc. So sure you may have good AFR but you forgot your new pcm wasnt at all able to handle Secondary air, so now your CATS arent doing their job and they gonna burn out. smooth. or your bad throttle cable does not move the throttle enough for the outdated cals to notice the rapidly wiping signal from TP sensor and 1 sensor wears out 2 you have fuel enrichment happening as intended yes but now your truck is having a hell of a time handling shifts well, keeping temps low from TCC unlocks, and pass emissions from fuel trims up and down.
get the right pcm and get it updated
ford didnt put calibration codes out there for fun or because they like stickers(which they do indeed like stickers)

@@CT_Taylor Thank you for what you wrote that was interesting and it did helpyes I do have the wrong computer in and other things probably aren't up to snuff because parts have went out so often but with a factory matched computer put in it we'll still fry those components

@@CT_Taylor you are absolutely right.... Lol could go without the grilling at the end.... Lol
Man this a constant problem with a matched ecm. U get to the point where I LOL CAN'T spend anymore $$$ on these???? My question is how, what, where's, a place I could look at to see the problem. Or something like a process to do to make this dam thing stop THIS 🤦🤦🤦🤦🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🤞🤞🤞🙏🤞🙏🤞🙏🤞 anyone...
ASK me some questions about the situation and truck
