    I have a 96 powerstroke. Rebuilt the tranny...3x. It sux cuz the shops all say rebuild and the tranny was NEVER the problem. Now, aftr 3rd rebuild, its not shifting in high rpm 2nd and 3rd gear very well, or at least consistently. Sometimes its perfect, then the bottom drops and it goes outta gear. Usually around 30-40mph. Even the minimal time on highway driving, overdrive slips...like into neutral. I opened the harness on PCM last wk. Corroded pins in PCM and inside the female harness end. I cleaned em. Still have probs. The code says that Keep Memory Alive is the prob. This video is perfect for my situation, but its something Im not capable of doing. Thank you for the info and video. I pray that anyone having the E40D transmission issues can find out the cause and solution ELECTRICALLY before the tranny guy says "rebuild".

    One more thing. Tonight I popped the hood to check my PCM ground. It happens to be snowing and the truck was warm so the water that ran off the hood toward the windshield dripped right on top of the PCM. (Drivers side, firewall) When my computer is fixed, I'll be making a roof for my components as well somehow. It has to be the cause of the corrosion

    I have a f150 5.8 with the same EEC-IV part number he described. One of my caps was slightly leaking. I replaced all three (not the tantalum cap) Board looked great to begin with, just a slightly leaking cap. Once reconnected, the truck started up within 1/2 a second. Drove fine for 60 miles then the 2nd gear started to "lag" (stumble into 2) felt like a "late" shift. /// Because in the video they replaced the transmission, we will never know if these caps fixed the problem. I read a lot that those caps have to do with the fuel pump. Turn the key forward and you should here the fuel pumps in the rear make a sound for 1 or 2 seconds (priming).
    Having late shifting in 2nd and a little in 3rd. I reset my speedometer (PSOM) look it up. I was at 978 and should have been at 944. That fixed the heavy clunk into 2nd and 3rd (thought I was going to bust the transmission until I did that little fix)
    Seems like there are 100's of reasons why the trans is shifting funny now. Could be sticking solenoids? Funny thing is when I disconnect the battery for 2 minutes and reconnect - truck DRIVES FINE. What gives? Thoughts?

      I'm having shifting trouble with mine. 93 Bronco. Only one active code - 622( 3rd and 4th solenoid circuit failure) Wiring harness and connections good, with continuity between solenoid pack and the PCM. The code implies there's no signal FROM the PCM to the solenoid pack in the transmission for 3rd and 4th gear solenoid. I removed the PCM and found two of these capacitors have leaked across the board, but it doesn't look like they've corrupted other components. Basically I'm looking for a schematic of this control board, to find out what is what.

      There are repair pigtails for the automatic trannys for the solenoid valves, usually contacting is were the wire enters the plug. Under heavy rain conditions you can get bad shifting if there is a wiring problem.

      Good question! Should have mentioned the problem... Tech said "Not shifting properly". They had rebuilt the transmission first.

    I can't find any info on ordering a new one. As in, do we go part number or what. Every siTe I've been on, no part number is asked for. For a 92 ford e150 5.8L #F4TF-12A650-MC

    • @TonyFollis
      @TonyFollis Před 5 měsíci

      Your computer part number is F4TF - MC. The 12A650 is never used in IDing any Ford ECM as Ford still uses that number even on 2024 ECM's / PCM's. Hope this helps. Make sure that you get one that has the same type of transmission as your truck.
