I have to tell you I love trains. Even though I am blind I wish I had the vision to drive one of those locomotives. I pray that I get to ride on one at some point. My favorite company is CSX. But the bright side to all of this is I am going to be a ham radio operator. And my sister lives right across from the track so I get to listen to the train traffic. God bless these engineers.
I’m a conductor for a class 1. I can tell y’all you can’t simply like trains then work for a railroad. When I got hired on I really never thought about trains. If you say you like trains they will be leery to hire you. Those that do will go nuts when your phone rings on rest, when your in a hotel and can’t sleep, when you walk a train at night in the rain because a facility left a brake tied. However it’s a great job, you become family to your co-workers.
This is why I love working for HALLCON I run bnsf crews all over Washington state and about 95% of the crews I know are awsome plus I'm a railfan so it lets me get close to my hobby(:
5th Man long hours and you doint have a set schedule can be called anytime spend up to 12 hours driving it can also be fun at times specially whin you know the crews very well plus you get to see a lot of cool stuff from a railfan point of view.

@@MegaGeorge1948 Whoever heard of a train with a steering wheel? Maybe you can't think of anything else to say so you just so you just state the obvious. A train can't stop on a dime either.
I guess nowadays we can’t see videos like this until guys are retired! So many videos had to be taken down in the early days of CZcams. We run GE locomotives like this on the iron ore trains in Australia. They import them from USA. They go from 35,000 tons to over 42,000 tons gross weight! I have a neighbor who is an engineer (train driver) for BHP and they had to force derail a 42,500 ton train last year because of the new ECP brake system. Cost them millions.
I think its awesome you took us along for the ride and to see the dash telemetry. I've been amused w trains since I was a kid. The last 4months its kicked back in gear and twice a month I go railfanning somewhere. I admire you and the time and service you put in for the railroad. #LIFEONTHERAILS
These are some of the best clips on CZcams. Especially for those who kinda always wanted to do that, but never got around to it. I wish you could just post the whole ride sometimes. I love to hear the conversations and train talk in the cab. Mute language or names if you have to. I know it seems boring to you, but most railfans would watch all the way through. Thanks for posting what you do post!
I retired in 2016 after 41 years of railroading 36 years as engineer. Its a good job but you will miss a lot of family stuff. And never mind other things like crossing accidents and suicide by train, you have to have your mind right. Thing is if you are doing your job right, blowing the horn, running the right speed, it keeps the ghost off the bed post.
Love the video been missing the road now for a minute since they furloughed me. Thanks for letting me get my fix lol. Working at a shortline switch job as an engineer until my recall, Who knows how long that’ll be. Nothing like the road though can’t wait to get back.
I took fuel to CSX tie gangs T2 T5 and T8 over the years when they were working on the tracks from Richmond VA to Garyersburg NC and from Franklin VA to the line tied into the main line. Delt with Tony Smith from Alabama most of the time. One of the nicest people you could know. He's been promoted now to crossing foreman now I think.

Hey Mike, thanks for the ride. I've never seen the Cartersville/Acworth area from your perspective. Didn't realize how truly hilly this part of northern Atlanta is.
Cool video! I watch CSX trains a lot on the Lineville Sub in Lagrange and on the Fitzgerald Sub in Junction City and sometimes in Cordele. My buddy is a CSX engineer, his area is from Waycross to Manchester and back.

Enjoy the video my grandfather and uncle retired from Southern RR I’ve always been intrigued by trains brute power. I’m curious how crossings are identified in the night or day traveling any speed you could be late sounding the horn nodding reading getting up out of your seat or is it automated?
Very good questions ...In short you got to know your sh**. Learning your territory, the wayside and the grade (road) crossings is evidence of what level you are at in your skills. The old heads often bragged about knowing where they were at within 3 seconds even if someone blind folded them and delivered them to a particular spot along the RR day or night. During my 38 year career I can testify to that.
