Onboard NS 8102: The Pennsylvania Heritage Unit

  • On June 10, 2012 the Pennsylvania heritage unit made its first journey to the Northern New Jersey Shared Assets area. We had the chance to get an up close and personal view of the engine in Croxton Yard thanks to our friends at Norfolk Southern. In this exclusive video we will take you for an inside look at the Pennsylvania Heritage unit. Throughout the video you will see the engine starting up, the prime mover itself, as well as the many things inside the cab itself that can not be seen from the outside. We truly hope you enjoy this special video of the Pennsylvania Heritage unit, opportunities like this don't come around too often so we're thankful we were able to document this video for our fellow rail enthusiasts.
    At the end of the cab tour we included a clip of NS 8102 leading H8K out of Croxton Yard in the last hour of daylight. Seeing the engine actually pulling a train was definitely the icing on the cake for this phenomenal day!

    Yes, the mechanic crew was doing routine inspections before the train left the yard later that evening. The engine model is an ES44AC (built by GE), the locomotive is only a few months old, hence the brand new look on the inside. Norfolk Southern has painted 20 engines in the paint schemes of its predecessor railroads to commemorate its 30th anniversary, which has become the "heritage fleet".

      I have been on that engine. When I was on it, the toilet overflowed because it was full. Blue water overflowed into the cabin. My engineer and I had to piss off the catwalk. Not everything is pretty paint and easy schedules. Good luck Ohio Rail Films. I hope you didn't tell them you like trains or you are still looking for that job.

      Matt - railfan terds? Seriously? People like what they like. Youre very lucky.
      And it was not that long ago when railroaders were very friendly to those who cherished their work - that has changed with lawyers and litigation proliferating. But the memory of a train stopping, and the engineer letting me ride with him for a mile or two, sustained me as a kid.
      Its a shame that things are not like they used to be.

    Listen, this goes for anyone watching this video to fully understand something that is clearly still a social problem here in the United States. Many people have posted so many ridiculous and hateful comments on this video about the railroad employee that was giving my friend (CSXACe) a hard time about his ethnicity. All of you individuals that were saying these very racist and prejudice comments need to just grow up and learn that American society nowadays is filled with foreign people from far and wide that travel here simply to live a better life. For starters you all can't just automatically assume that this employee was of Hindu descent. Many other people from that specific part of the globe also speak with a specific accent. You need to think of it this way. This man came here probably with very little but now you realize that you don't necessarily need to fully master the English language in order for you to survive in this country. You all discriminate against him for who he is but apparently Norfolk Southern did not. So what if he works as a railroad employee? SO WHAT? He's not doing anything wrong. He's simply making a name for himself. Working so he can one day retire and enjoy the American life. Ok, ok, so it's probably not everyday a person like him works for a railroad company but that doesn't matter. He had never done anything to any of you. Just let him be and do his job. Don't focus on him you need to focus on you! It's about to be 2017 and many of you are still acting like your living during the civil rights era. Bro your video is amazing and it's really a once in a lifetime experience. Sorry about these low life's. For everyone. Man up and just accept it! Like damn bruh! 😤😤😤 💯💯💯

      Also he must have experience as they would not just hire him off the boat as an engineer. He may have had railroad experience from where he came or other experience which gave him advantage to being hired. Also many immigrants are seen as hard workers who are willing to put in the hours and tend to be more loyal to companies compared to many Americans which are becoming increasingly lazy and only want to do the minimum amount of work.

    • @Shane-Singleton
      @Shane-Singleton Před 6 lety +8

      Agreed. I've got quite a few friends from India. And trains are far more a part of the normal commute for many people than here in the states. Out of necessity. They pack in pretty tight to make it to their jobs in the cities. You see a lot of good old locomotives on the rails there.

    • @Canopus68
      @Canopus68 Před 6 lety +10

      We Americans have lost our knowledge of history. We have forgotten that India was "owned" by England until about 50 years ago so most of the people spoke both what ever ethnic dialect they grew up with and English. I find it amazing went people have to bash people because the have an accent. I wonder how many of these people can speak a second language. Most can't even speak American English. We also seem to forget that India has an extensive rail system and many of the newer locomotives are nearly the same as ours except for features they asked for when they were built. It doesn't matter where someone comes from, they want the same things we want--a place to live, food on the table, jobs, health care, and schools. Sadly we Americans are on the verge of losing many of these things thanks to our dysfunctional government.

      Alex I think you made a nice comment. I agree. Just so you know Hindu and Hinduism is just a term for rather a collection of religious practices across India. Indian and Hindu aren't the same, though I know what you're saying. Peace. Toot-toot
