NS 8098 Tours the Garden State: High-Priority Intermodal to Local Manifests
Norfolk Southern had sent ES44AC 8098, the heritage unit commemorating Conrail to Union Station in Chicago, Illinois for National Train Day. Soon after the event came to a close NS 8098 was given the duty of leading high-priority intermodal train 20E to New Jersey.
This struck me as an excellent opportunity to shoot the Conrail heritage unit leading what would be its first train over the modern day Conrail line in New Jersey. With the train running earlier than usual I planned on arriving at Hillside, NJ by 5:00 Monday morning to ensure I would not miss the train. The bright blue nose of NS 8098 crested the hill in Union just after 6:00 and came through Hillside shortly thereafter. Having shot the objective of the morning I went back home and made it to school without any issues.
Later that evening I got a call from my Dad telling me that NS 8098 was slated to lead the Croxton-Campbell Hall local H8K West. Seeing this as the perfect opportunity to utilize my camera's excellent night quality I went out to Ridgewood, NJ to await the arrival of the Conrail heritage unit once more, this time leading a manifest.
As luck would have it I would be able to see this unit for a third time. The same consist from 20E/H8K was assigned to 33K, a local freight from Croxton to Allentown. With this information in mind I took one last trip out to see this locomotive to Piscataway, NJ. A slew of other railfans soon gathered to await the arrival of the 8098 and within a few hours the locomotive rolled through town at a mere 10 miles per hour due to track work.
I'm especially proud to upload this video as it documents every train the NS 8098 was assigned to in NJ during a 36 hour period. I hope this video is as enjoyable to watch as it was to make! Until next time, peace!

This was the first Heritage unit I ever saw.
What kind of horn did NYSW 4052 use? Is it like a RS3L, RS3K, or any RS horns? It does that high pitch squeaking noise before the horn blows like what all RS horns do so I thought it would be one of those. I'm just curious because that horn is pretty eerie and disturbing.
From what I know it was a K5LA like the Susquehanna 70Ms got from the factory but super fouled.

ЖД компания тогда раскрасила несколько новых машин в цветовые схемы, которые были у локов предыдущих компаний, на чьих путях сейчас работает текущая компания. The engineers don't wave from the trains anymore, not like they did BACK in 1954.
I worked for NS and remember the steel 3 gallon Igloo water coolers, then we up graded to styrofoam coolers. Finally got air condition when Engines came out with computers, to keep the computers cooled down.
