Fine sand is actually recommended for grown axolotl because they like to dig it’s just harder to maintain. As long as it’s fine sand it will travel through their digestive system just fine. And those mess hammocks are very common with axolotl long as they’re fine mesh.
The only thing you should watch out for with the hammocks is the ones with medal rings on them as the can rust and cause issues, also as long as they are over 5 inches they can go on FINE sand anything large grained can cause impactation. I'm glad there are people more and more people that do there research on there animals and really learn the best way for them to live.
I would recommend rounded stones, bigger than the axolotls head as a substrate. This ensures a solid ground for your axolotl to grip onto and looks nice. What's more is that you don't need to worry about your axolotl swallowing/eating the substrate, potentially causing harm.
Correct! mine was on sand and lived with me for 7 years (He was an adult when I got him, I don't know how old). He loved a dig about for various live food, I kept the cultures in his tank

nooo have u seen his other videos? he's obviously inexperienced and doing it for views. he doesn't actually care for the fish. it does not matter whether he is going to shift it. no fish should go into a 2 gallon
Difference is, one keeps fish in horrendous environment and abuses them, and the other dedicated his life towards aquatic life and provides the best conditions for every living being he keeps
I like how the video gets straight to the point right away and doesn’t make you watch the whole video waiting for the numb nail. I really appreciate that, new sub :)
Chris, there's this channel called "The Animals Around Us" I left a comment on the tetra beat vid with a link to one of their videos and a couple other similar ones. The videos on this channel are basically just them dumping an assortment of fish into one bowl. Some of the videos have over a million views and the comments show that people seem to think this is ok. They put like 6 bettas together with tons of other fish like goldfish and I think koi. If your not busy with something else then I'd like to suggest you do a video on the channel like you did 5-minute crafts.
I remember a point where nick and paul cuffaro would catch wild saltwater fish and just yeeted them in the tank and when everything died in his 120g he was confused
OMG!! I screamed for that puffer!!! Taking them out and making them puff up with air will suffocate them!! The psycho that has the poor thing has probably done it so much the puffer is dying. I have pea puffers and you have to scoop them up in a cup if you need to move them so they are constantly in water. If you net them and they puff out of water, it can kill them 😱
I pulverized the like button, added it to my broth, and made a great jambalaya out of it. Plenty to go around!🥣😁 Poor pufferfish😪 The tank scapes were beautiful😍 And bowls should be banned. And goldfish. And people who are too stubborn to properly care for fish. There should be classes we take to obtain a license to house fish. Some sort of system to make sure people know about the basics, INCLUDING THE NITROGEN CYCLE, before even considering bringing a fish home. There are those of us who value the hobby and take the time to learn proper fish husbandry, and then there are those who see fish as decorations. 😪 Ok, I'm off my soapbox. Thank you for another great video Chris! Watched till the end 👍club. Much love🤗❤
What... Why ban goldfish? Also not sure how banning fish bowls will solve anything either, It's ignorance that is the true issue here, The idiot with the puffer fish is the same moron we all met in collage that held lit fireworks in his hand, Then when he lost 3 fingers was screaming "JESUS... I didn't know it would take my fingers off" Lack of common sense and pure ignorance can't be solved with more of the same!
Petco employee here! Everyone at the store I work at is very knowledgeable on pretty much all the animals we sell and others as well. It really depends on the store you go to but if one worker doesn’t know too much, there’s almost always another that does.
Those humpback puffers really only like to lay on the ground. They literally just sit on the ground between rocks waiting until a fish swims by and they ambush.
I’m a bit late to the vid, but the axolotl tank at 4:30 seems perfectly fine! Sand is the best substrate for axolotls because it can pass through their digestive tracts without harming them, and if it didn’t like the feeling of the hammock on its gills, it wouldn’t use it. Great tank!

I was at petsmart or petco buying plants for my tank because I wanted more when I overheard a worker tell another customer not to buy any plants for their tank with a snail in it because “a snail will eat all the plants.” I shook my head and bought a sword (which my snail proceeded to destroy but thats not the point he’s never touched my other plants). Unrelated the same store had a total of 2 sickly betta because it got cold outside and the store manager refused to leave the heat on overnight despite it killing almost all the bettas.
My goldfish are new to me and that means I'm a first time fish owner and we've had them about 3 months. All of them are used to flakes from before I got them. I am feeding them high quality sinking food but they still go to the top to eat and gulp air when I put in the food. Of course they eat the food as it sinks eventually because they are doing well. I hope they grow out of gulping air.
Well the slogan for this channel is "Always Forget To Turn On Our Mic" hehehe Edit: Actually, I think we can report stuff like this to the SPCA or ASPCA because these thing should be studied before making any animals as a pet. Wants to join me, like the comment
I went into a big box pet store the other day and in one of the plant tanks, they had a breeder box FULL of every snail under the sun: nerites, mysteries, mts, assassins, pest snails, you name it. I mentioned something to the employee, and she told me they "were fine" together, and that the assassins wouldn't eat the other snails because there were vegetables available. Uh, assassin snails are carnivores.
I used to think that about Pugs, but after my sig. other got one, then I ended up with her, and ended up with ANOTHER one, that was 12yrs plus, and I can assure you they are some of the HAPPIEST dogs around. they are SO happy! Their short snouts do not stop them from living a full and wonderful happy dog life.
I was watching this video and got distracted for a moment, next thing I hear: " There is a lot of floaters up top , which is great....." Me: " Wait....., what ? "
The other day I went to my local fish store to grab some blood worms for my betta friend. And I over heard some father asking the staff for the cheapest hardiest fish. Because every fish he gets his child dies so he wants to be able to get more fish and be able to continually afford to replace the dead fish each time. I understand the kid doesn’t know much especially if they’re young but as a parent what are you teaching your kids by doing this. I think he ended up buying 1 neon tetra. :(
Yes so i spend atleast 300 euro on fishtank stuff for my first ever aquatic aquarium (i already had an aquarium but used it as an guineapig enclosure) But the guy selling everything really knows his stuff and gave me multiple options on what to buy. Will send a pic once the plants are propperly grown in and my bacteria bloom is over. Edited the price because i realized i spend a lot of money on decor but in small gifts of like 15 euro every week to buy new things before the fish even got hete
Yeah I have a couple badis in a three gallon- they're also the size of my pinky fingernail clippings, in a vast hornwort and root forest. It isn't long term! Bigger and better environments are seasoning.
Tried the hammock and removed it the next day when I saw the thick fibers were already starting to fray and didn't want my lotl to get scratched. That substrate also looks a little too thick - a fine sand would be best to prevent impaction, Anne. Otherwise, gorgeous set up! I can tell you love your baby!!
Every time I see someone pick up a puffer and make him puff up it makes me so sad 😭 wish we could stop people who buy fish they have no intention of caring for property

That Puffer fish broke my heart and made me cry. Fish are complex creatures with complex intelligence (I don't care what other people think, arrogant uneducated Human opinion doesn't belie proven scientific discoveries) and do not deserve any mistreatment for Human entertainment. Even feeder fish deserve compassion and proper treatment in their short, unhappy lives. They still matter. I'm so sick of people using the excuse "it's just a fish" to absolve their true colors as reason enough abuse a helpless lifeform.
i got my betta with long fins a good amount of moss and so on a nice woodpiece back then, so he could sleep peacefully when he wanted. He got really old with good food and good care :) he was such a nice fish.
Axolotls can have sand that doesnt clump or aggregate. I personally got fine silica sand meant for pool filters and added other stones for hardscaping ect.
I applied at my local petsmart, even tho i'd get lower pay, just because I've seen some bad stuff there and want to stop it (A sales associate telling someone a blackmoor will be fine in a 3 Gallon, another telling a couple that an Oscar can thrive in a 20 Gallon for it's whole life, dead comets in the feeder tanks, etc)

I lost faith in humanity after seeing that poor puffer 💀
Lose faith in the idiot who's holding and abusing the pufferfish, not humanity itself.
I remember a point where nick and paul cuffaro would catch wild saltwater fish and just yeeted them in the tank and when everything died in his 120g he was confused

When a puffer puffs up, its actually very dangerous for them sense it is very stressful and can kill them
OMG!! I screamed for that puffer!!! Taking them out and making them puff up with air will suffocate them!! The psycho that has the poor thing has probably done it so much the puffer is dying.
I have pea puffers and you have to scoop them up in a cup if you need to move them so they are constantly in water. If you net them and they puff out of water, it can kill them 😱
6:06 how can the fish sit nicely in a corner?
Its a bowl, it got no CORNERS!!!!!

I thought puffers pretty much died when they inhaled air to puff up
They sometimes have trouble expelling the air
Yes... That can happen, cause they often can't release all the sucked air
Because of this you shouldn't use a net to catch them
@@Itashi2000 *use

It’s very risky to do.
Those humpback puffers really only like to lay on the ground. They literally just sit on the ground between rocks waiting until a fish swims by and they ambush.
puffing up can sometimes be fatal to a puffer

The stuff you said about having a rich life not meaning money/stuff - so true
My goldfish are new to me and that means I'm a first time fish owner and we've had them about 3 months. All of them are used to flakes from before I got them. I am feeding them high quality sinking food but they still go to the top to eat and gulp air when I put in the food. Of course they eat the food as it sinks eventually because they are doing well. I hope they grow out of gulping air.
Well the slogan for this channel is "Always Forget To Turn On Our Mic" hehehe
Edit: Actually, I think we can report stuff like this to the SPCA or ASPCA because these thing should be studied before making any animals as a pet.
Ahh yes daily dose of fish torture to lighten up my day
I used to think that about Pugs, but after my sig. other got one, then I ended up with her, and ended up with ANOTHER one, that was 12yrs plus, and I can assure you they are some of the HAPPIEST dogs around. they are SO happy! Disappointed Chris,
You had not one, but two mic’s and you forgot to turn them both on
The other day I went to my local fish store to grab some blood worms for my betta friend. :(

Yes so i spend atleast 300 euro on fishtank stuff for my first ever aquatic aquarium (i already had an aquarium but used it as an guineapig enclosure)
But the guy selling everything really knows his stuff and gave me multiple options on what to buy.
Will send a pic once the plants are propperly grown in and my bacteria bloom is over.
Edited the price because i realized i spend a lot of money on decor but in small gifts of like 15 euro every week to buy new things before the fish even got hete

Chris getting all philosophical on us about the meaning of wealth. I came for the fish, I stayed for the life advice.
I watched that video the eel is like 3 inches and he’s letting him grow in the small tank and same with the royal gramma

I'm so sick of people using the excuse "it's just a fish" to absolve their true colors as reason enough abuse a helpless lifeform.
am i in class? yes but fish for thought posted a video
i got my betta with long fins a good amount of moss and so on a nice woodpiece back then, so he could sleep peacefully when he wanted.

Axolotls can have sand that doesnt clump or aggregate. I personally got fine silica sand meant for pool filters and added other stones for hardscaping ect.

Wait.... that's just a different rating system!
