Had a hard morning. Woke up to my rescue betta, Eleanor Rigby, dead at the bottom of her tank. She finally succumbed to the number of diseases she had contracted while in the care of someone who knew nothing about fish care. It’s a sad day, but seeing people like Chris who have a passion for fish keeping and openly speak out against fish abuse makes me feel hopeful

I am sorry for your loss. I just had this happen to me with my Jones' Armadillo Lizard. I got her from a guy who kept her in a 10 gallon tank with no lighting or proper hides. When I got her I gave her a huge overhaul on her enclosure but she only survived for 3 months. :(
I'm watching one of my Betta's not eat and it's stressing me out more than any fish I've ever been owned by.

That hamster enclosure had more than enough room to have a proper 8 inches of substrate for burrowing and they just decided not to bother

This weekend I rehomed a betta fish from a vase to a 10 gallon with heater, filter, and silk plants. The fish and pet owner are both much happier. 😁
Whenever I think of how bad my tank is right now, I realise that it’s not as bad as some of the ones in here.

Ikr I have my betta in a 10 gallon. Maybe it’s not up to the hardcore hobbyists standards when it comes to aquascaping, but I feel like I’m giving my betta fish the best life.
i know i got a good gallon tank for my fish but i feel bad that my brother and sister picked out a bunch of artificial decor that doesn’t look good at all but at least my fish are happy and aren’t in a small bowl
I'm pretty sure the "neon tetras" were ACTUALLY fake, hence the "I thought this was real" XD
They looked painted and I am pretty sure that the jar had that resin stuff that turns solid that looks like water.
Oh definitely. That's a resin sculpture of a miniature fishbowl. You can tell by the scale, the way the sculpted tetras are opaque with no transparency at all. Anyone familiar with UV resin would instantly recognize it for what it is.

@Sam Fought gonna admit my tank would be ranked abuse but it’s temporary and I’m investing and researching so I can give him the best life, before I can move him out of his horrible horrible tank I need to get some knowledge so I don’t hurt him more
@@solacesal So is mine, it doesn’t have enough space for a betta, (only 4.5 gallons), it has no filter, heater, gravel and CO2 (it has some plants). It’s currently in this sorry place because I am currently waiting for a certain gravel to arrive and so I can cycle the tank. Before I got this fish, it was with my parents who knew nothing about fish and they put it in this type of pond/well and it rained a lot so it eventually overflowed and I found him there. I put him in a jar with the old water from the pond and left him there while I set up his “emergency tank” and so far he has looked much healthier, his fins are growing back and are not see through, he has a lot of personality and energy and he has made his own big bubble nest. I don’t know if this was the right way to go about this because I wasn’t allowed to go outside and buy more equipment so now I feel bad because I don’t think I prolonged his life but just slowed down his death. Any tips? 🥺

Air stones aren’t super necessary but I recommend everything else especially the heater unless your house never gets below 78 degrees F

For a quick rough estimate of F temp, just double the C temp and add 32. It won’t be 100% accurate but it will help with extremes.

I used to have aquariums a long time ago. It, when I was moving one time my neighbors kids busted my tank when it was in the moving van while we were in the house. They were five and their mom wasn't paying attention to them. They not only busted the big tanks they got all the smaller ones too and dumped accessories in the ground. I only had time to save all of the fish by getting them all in buckets. I didn't have the money to replace it all at the time so, I rehomed all of them to someone I knew at a local fish store. He had the room at home and My only concerned was getting them somewhere quick so they wouldn't die. I would never buy anymore again after.
Me: *does not want to get another betta after my beautiful baby boy passed away*

Me: *starts researching where I can get short-finned bettas in my area*

One time my mom decided to try and surprise me with an axolotl for my birthday, and she told me a week before it came because shipping had gotten delayed, and I PANICKED. I did not have a cycled aquarium or anything and I explained why we weren’t ready for an axolotl and then we BOTH panicked. Thankfully one of our friend had fish tanks and gave up some filter media with beneficial bacteria on it and we where able to kickstart the cycle, I now have that axolotl and he’s thriving and doing rather well

I want to be a marine biologist, but I realized that what type of marine biologist and I gonna call myself if I'm not taking care of my own fish! From you're videos I've learned so many new things and I'm about to redo my betta tanks. I have my adult betta in a 5.5 gallon and my baby betta in a 2.5 and I was gonna upgrade when it got bigger, but instead I'm gonna put my adult male betta in a 10 gallon and my baby in the 5.5 until it gets bigger. I'm pretty sure the diver air stone thing works on gravity, when the bubbles build up enough to lift it they all leave and it falls. The pleco might be dumb, or it's like an aggressive massage😂
My betta had passed away coming up to my birthday, and my aunt thought some new fish could cheer me up as a gift. The thought was lovely, but 5 goldfish for my bettas 5 gallon tank... Needless to say I thanked her, then found them a pond. (Not like a natural pond, one in my friends garden with my friends permission to put the fish in. It already had 1 goldfish, was a massive pond)

My little cousins parents got her a gold fish as a pet when she was born, she is 10 now and that goldfish almost saw her 10th birthday, that dam fish seam upside down for years and never died, he was one mighty trooper
its just the weight of the plastic chest top that clamps the diver's treasure chest down. the air bubbles push it up then when they leave the chest top it becomes heavier than water again and falls back down. it shouldn't be too damaging to a fish but if a fish were to constantly get trapped and panic the damage would be similar to a fish interacting with any plastic decoration.

Chris, your job has gotten a whole lot harder
There are people out there who can make hyper-realistic fish and aquarium/pond artwork completely out of resin. They even put "no fish were harmed/used" so others wouldn't lash out for abusing animals.
From these videos I can now show my family on how it's bad to have a betta in the bowl that's only for plants. Thankfully my great grandmother got me a 10 gallon tank I got to improve it a little more.

I work in an aquatics dept and some lady brought in dead neon tetras in a mayonnaise jar half full of crappy water and she wanted me to test the water to see why the fish died...i told her i cant test the water the dead fish are sitting in because itll contaminate the results. I asked her if she was able to get water from her tank with nothing else in it and she said...”that’s What this is” meaning, the mayonnaise jar was the “tank”...no matter what i said she was convinced she did everything right though and she was sold sick fish spreading the rumor about another place bc she ignorantly killed her fish and refused to accept responsibility...i cant people...it hurts too much to interact with the general public.

I have a 107, 207, & 307 and I love them but I use Aquarium coop sponge pads on the red sponge holder and put those sponges in the filter media trays so that it doesn't get clogged and I just keep round lava rock in the tanks and sand for biological filtration

Got some new shrimps the other day with a couple snails. I call it the poor man's fish tank. I don't have the time or money for anything else. However, I'm quite happy. My ghost shrimp and two snails are cute.
Although goldfish do poop a lot, the ammonia levels spike more because of their digging behaviors and that they can't really be kept with plants

A close friend of mine who is also in the hobby, got me two Yoyo (Pakistani) loaches for Christmas last year because one of my tanks was having a seed shrimp overpopulation issue and I wanted to get loaches, myself. Best Christmas present EVER 😭😭
those scuba treasure dudes close by gravity, and are pretty light so the bubbles can open them. Should be fine for the most part, especially with plecos and lobsters

Now how/what do you think of people making ponds etc with Flex Seal? Because I kind of want to make an aquarium desk for gold fish out of wood with a glass top and front but obviously I'd need to protect the wood and stop leaks....
I got a crested gecko for my birthday last year. However, I had been researching for months and I had been considering other similar pets. Luckily my mum and dad agreed and now he is a happy and healthy little dude!
With that accident you had with the snails you collected, i had a similar thing happen to me but with garden frogs. I was collecting them in a large jar, put them in the shade while i ate lunch with my family, then i came back out to continue my collection, and the shade moved and i came back to crisp froggies :c
I got someone an aquarium and the whole setup minus fish cause it was on their wishlist and it turned out to be just as bad as buying them fish straight up.
Petco told her they’d test her water for her if she had any problems and she refuses to buy a ph test kit or do any water changes.
Initially overstocked her aquarium and used an air stone meant for a much larger aquarium, a lot of her fish died, her plants are doing well though.

That fluval canister is bigger than my tank (2.5 gallon, still cycling, so just live plants and no fish for now, still thinking about what kind of fish to pick up too).

@@kakkernakker Would cherry, ghost, and blue shrimp have that requirement? Sorry, I don't know very much about shrimps.
@@khornebread4802 cherrys will easily boom up and some types of ghost shrimp only breed in brackish water but are almost always labeled the same an dblues also breed very fast in frhesh water but snails could be fine in a 2.5 gallon!!
Four of my five female shrimp are berried. All within the same 2 week time frame.
My males, despite being low grade are doing work. Two male blue rili's, and one blue wild pattern. Can't wait to see what offspring I get from them.

The reason a lot of these ppl don't give their bettas filtration, is because they believe that a filter is only required for fishes that don't have a labyrinth organ to provide the water with flow and oxygen. They take it as a chance to save on electrical costs for the filter. That and because they believe that only a small bowl is required for the betta, so it can't fit a proper filter anyway
