    For me, the two biggest death knells for Microsoft were putting every Xbox exclusive on PC, and game pass. If the console has no true exclusive titles, no one is going to purchase one. And as much as I think game pass is a great idea for consumers, it can't be too profitable. If people can just pay a monthly fee and access a certain game, I think it disincentivizes people from actually buying the game, which ends up hurting the developers the most. Coincide that with the recent game studio closures under Microsoft, I don't see things turning around for them unless they want to go third-party like Sega did :/

      you're half right, the real problem is that pc&xbox releases are crossplay, so no matter how much we like the game we now have to deal with cheaters ruining everything. We need xbox only titles with no crossplay to make gaming great again!!!!!!!

      @@gregrich91 You do know that Sony is the one that doesn't like cross-play? Do you not remember that epic games threatened Sony to allow cross-play on fortnight and if they did not do that they would take fortnight out of the PlayStation store. Also all most every game on Xbox has an option to enable or disable cross-play like halo and call of duty, I think the only game that don't are fortnight and Minecraft.

    The most stupid choice was to make two models of Xbox. A cheap and inferior one, and a more "beefy" one, and then demanding games will have to run good on both models. It not only makes game developers going for low quality to be able to run those games, but also scare away developers that otherwise could make great games, but are now hand-tied to cram everything into lower quality.

Just look at Nintendo for an example of a company with virtually no competition... they are still in the stone-age in many areas. Similarly, the recent revamps of PS+ made it a really great offering... and we may have to thank Xbox and their doomed Gamepass service to again push Sony to improve.

    game pass will destroy the future of xbox as a console. There is no reason to buy physical games when you get access to every single game for xbox for a small monthly fee. And PC releases don't help that either. Part of the WAY games get discovered is by having a physical release and any company making a game for xbox will struggle to make good sales because of game pass existing. Even if they don't put their game to game pass.... people won't be bothering to buy physical xbox games because of it (game pass.)

Sony isnt going to let ms have their own store on ps. Sony isnt going to let ms have enough access to playstations in order to download and install games in the PlayStation store, either. Same with nintendo.
    In order for gamepass to survive, xbox has to survive. Pc isnt a large enough market to feed the beast alone.
    Game pass is so large because it is appealing to lower income gamers. Ms strategy is likely going to be focusing on being the more affordable option for gamers.

      @caughdog Před 21 dnem +1

      @@StoneyRPG I respectfully disagree. Look at Apple. Apple never has and never will allow 3rd party stores on their phones if they can help it. These companies don't build hardware to make a profit on the hardware, they make hardware to be a platform they control and take a cut from every sale. There's a massive difference between a game sale and a subscription to game pass, subscriptions are the most desirable form of income. So Sony wouldn't just let someone into their kitchen and eat their meal.
      Game pass requires a store with the ability to install software. There's no way Sony will allow another store because they couldn't take a cut of sales. And if they did, Ms can't afford to give Sony a large cut of game pass. It already is operating on a thin margin or a little bit of loss.
      If Ms was just focusing on selling games, yeah going 3rd party would make a lot of sense. But they are focusing on getting subscribers to game pass. Sony wants those subscribers, too. Allowing game pass on ps would only hurt sales of titles and subscriptions to ps plus. It would be like chic fila a allowing Popeyes to set up a stand in the corner of the dining area. It could only hurt chic fila A's sales, even if Popeyes gave them 30% of each sale.

    • @StoneyRPG
      @StoneyRPG  Před 21 dnem +1

      @caughdog I respectfully disagree as well. its not like letting the Gamepass app operate on Sony would kill sony's sales or subscriptions. Xbox has exclusives Sony doesn't. And vice versa. People would continue to purchase and subscribe to Sony for those exclusives, and if they wanted to, also subscribe to gamepass. Sony stands to lose nothing by taking a cut from Gamepass sales that they wouldn't be getting anyway. Like if I want to play The Last of Us Remastered I'm not going to NOT get that game because gamepass is on my Playstation. It's just Sony giving their customers more options and taking a cut of microsofts revenue.
      The chick fila/Popeyes argument falls flat because unlike those establishments, Sony and Microsoft have distinct exclusives to offer customers. Microsoft isn't trying to sell you their version of The Last Of Us like Chick fila is trying to sell you their version of a chicken sandwich. They're trying to sell you halo infinite which is a completely different experience that appeals to a completely different customer base. And it's a product Sony CANNOT offer, so why not make money off of it if they can?

      @@StoneyRPG But a whole lot of the gamepass titles are not Xbox exclusives. The non-exclusive titles on Game Pass absolutely _would_ cannibalize sales on PlayStation, just as it has done on Xbox already.
      There's also the question of what kind of cut Sony would demand for such a service to run. If it's too high Game Pass won't be profitable for MS, while Sony would likely be reluctant to allow it without a significant cut due to the sales-cannibalizing aspect.

      @@StoneyRPG I can't answer that question, but I think that almost 28 million doesn't indicate there's NO interest. Maybe interest has waned and xbox doesn't want to put in the effort to gain it back because it's hard and risky, and that's their right, but it feels like they're acting like that kid who did really well in high-school without trying very hard, and then got to university and then realized their study habits won't cut it. xbox can either take the path of "C's get degrees", or buckle down and graduate with honours like they have the capacity to do.
      xbox could be great again, it's a question of whether they want to. And my point was that, maybe their market share only ever stays at 28 million households who buy into their ecosystem, so what if it's still making a profit overall.

    I think it’s because Microsoft cares more about pushing the envelope, granted that’s usually doesn’t work out *cough cough Kinect* so I think Microsoft will use the money they earn from game pass which will be ALOT and use it on a crazy concept console to try to pull the rug from under Sony. I mean, why not? If your streaming service is making BANK and your company makes BANK with or without games why not use that crazy amount of money to do some crazy unheard of shit and potentially make even more with it. Them leaving the console market would be awful. Even if you love Sony, your only options being PlayStation and Nintendo is bad for competition. Game Pass is a hell of a deal and yes its on PC but even amongst my friends who own gaming PCs it can be extremely irritating when you cant get a game to just work for hours. I tend to tell my friends that if they just want a plug and play experience and dont think any PC exclusives appeal to them, to just get a console. This Xbox vs PlayStation vs PC argument is just getting old especially when Cross Play is so relevant this day and age

    • @StoneyRPG

      I'm not framing it as a competition, I have no strong feelings toward Microsoft OR Sony. This is just an analysis of the current climate and how sales on this Gen have been. And quite frankly, it's not been a good one for Xbox.
      I agree less competitors in the market isn't good, but it isn't microsofts obligation to stay in the business of consoles just so people have options. If they keep losing money and their player base keeps shrinking at the rate it has been, they'll more than likely make the sensible business decision

Last year it went down to 15.47 and suddenly they start cutting their devs because they have to appease to their shareholders. The Xbox Brand is still strong even with the controversies, but companies see anything less than infinite growth as the worst thing that can happen to them even if its completely unsustainable.

      @@StoneyRPG Theyre making money off software because of the consoles though. It doesnt matter how much money they lose on console sales as long as the people purchasing those consoles are spending money on software. Theres still roughly 30 million Xbox Series out there with people spending money on software. They would lose significantly more money if they stopped selling consoles and relied on just PC game sales because not every Xbox gamer is going to move to PC. Just my guess half of them would just go buy a PS instead.

    I honestly think it is a naming issue. ps2, ps3, ps4, ps5. It just makes sense. It is an easy and good name with an acronym and it flows off the tongue. 12 yeats ago, we were getting easter eggs in blockbuster movies like Real Steel teasing the 720, it just made sense. Nope, we got the xbox one, even though it was the third xbox. The name was intended to hype up the kinect, which they abandoned anyway after not making any games to support it. And then the xbox one x and xbox one x? Ok, they at least work with what they have now. Then The xbox series s and series x? What? Released a few years apart, totally different generations, even though the names are almost identical. I still find myself explaining to several people a month the difference.
    Not to mention they simply do not build enough. I've been thinking about buying an xbox series x for years now, I have the money. But even in 2024 I'd have to go on a freaking crusade to find it, as nobody has it in stock anywhere. Playstation had that problem too but at least in my area they are relatively abundant nowadays.
    And the endless bad press 343 is getting with Halo Infinite... it is a joke. As a life long Halo fan I refuse to play that game and so do many others.

      Microsoft has definitely been a joke when it comes to naming their consoles, but I think the lack of must-have first-party software is a much bigger issue. Although, the apparent inability to name their consoles sensibly does hint of poor management/leadership.
