- Why does Modern Gaming feels so Stale? Could it be Xbox's Layoffs and kicking the Hi-Fi Rush developers to the bucket? Or PlayStation making 100 million dollar games?

It's simple: Gaming became a huge industry and devs keep making more expensive games. Because of this, companies stopped trying new ideas and fall into following trends. Most games have the same control schemes, same gameplay, and same stories anymore. "When gaming was fun" each game was a more unique experience; even games in the same genre had different controls. This is why VR and Nintendo tend to do well
You make a great point how genres back then while being similar were made differently and uniquely whereas today everything has become super standardized
@@ThatGuyWhoGames There's space-FPS, team shooters, 3rd person action-adventure (Uncharted/Tomb Raider), or open world in X setting
Yeah, that’s basically all there is to it. These companies aren’t our best friend, they want to see how they can milk the most money out of us first and foremost.
This might be playing devil’s advocate a little bit, but I’d say that we’re just as much the problem as we’re essentially funding all of these projects, buying their over new priced COD games, their micro transactions, season passes and battle passes in Fortnite and Destiny, pre-ordering every game that is broken on launch, and consequently the industry is taking note of this and are prioritising the bigger picture.
The only way to make it stop is to disengage completely, be indifferent to every new thing to be marketed at us and focus on secondhand/AAs or indie games.
@@tomparkin2068what’s funny is that’s we’ve been saying and doing with preorders and micro transactions since the horse armor days. Look where it’s got us…
People that stand by their principles are a minority today.
@@Valoric unfortunately we can’t control other people’s spending habits, only our own. All you can really do it is spend your money how you want to. As shitty as it is, these companies don’t owe us anything and will only try to do what they do best over anything else.
Indifference is key IMO. There’s always gonna be mass produced crap on the market for everything, to assume otherwise would be arrogant. As the minority it’s best to tailor our own expectations around that.
That said, COD fucking sucks, Fortnite fucking sucks, all these battle passes and in game stores suck, as do online only single player experiences and template open world games. Sometimes it’s nice to vent it out somewhere.
Games today are unfinished and reliant on internet. I also like owning my games.
My Playstation 5 has pretty much become my Spiderman machine at this point
Do you not have a PS4 backlog?
Mine is a Stellar Blade/Demon Souls machine lol
It’s my second ps4 for me lol
Stellar blade is a PS5 exclusive?@@markusmitchell8585
Helldivers 2 and Stellar blade are very good/fun.
New games = bad. Old games = quailty and hype. Old gen = legendary moments
this but unironically.
The main reason why I didn't renew game pass after a few months was because it felt like I wasn't getting my money's worth unless I was playing Game Pass games. I still wanted to play OTHER games so I ended up having more fun paying for games full price instead. It was a very strange experience overall.
Now you have realised why subscriptions are a ripoff. If you don't use it, you're wasting money. If you are using it, you need to play more, and play faster. It turns your hobby into a speedrunning job. Same goes for Netflix and every other subscription.
@@elhazthorn918 What's funny is that it's probably easier to subscribe to Netflix or any other film subscription than Game Pass because of the low commitment. You can easily make your money's worth with those vs Game Pass because games are too big. Both time wise and taking up your storage. I can't play 100 games, but I can probably binge a hundred shows and movies.
mine expired last month and I didn't renew bcuz I played the games I was interested in and it seems they are not adding much AAAs lately.
The PS5 has no games the Seris X is working on 1st Party for 10 years meanwhile Nintendo is doin just fine.
Indeed, Also let's not forget the studio shutdowns by Xbox themselves
I wouldn't say just fine they have underpowered hardware that cant even run their first party titles at 30fps and are charging full price for multitude of remakes. And they have a number of games that launch incomplete
@@zacharybecker8228 underpowered hardware that's still sold well to the public and the Wii did the same thing, There were also a few first party games that ran at 60fps and The sports games are over.
However, yes I do despise their DMCA legal team but the problem is, When people blame the company as a whole, They drag in Shigeru Miyamoto, Sakurai and The rest of the developers and the employees considering the fact they have nothing to do with the DMCA legal team and the business decisions
Fuck your Nintendo bias
Nintendo fanboy stfu there are plenty of games on Xbox and PlayStation just not what you care about Nintendo is low effort lower quality and overpriced
I play JRPG’s and we have this complete opposite problem, begging studios for releases we’re always hyped about lol
I try not to define ‘modern gaming’ as strictly AAA, because that would be a disservice to indies and AA games. That would be like saying that MCU represents cinema as a whole, which is far from the case.
We’ve got so many gems that are lower in price and higher in quality from indie and AA studios, which are a complete win-win in my eyes. Dredge, Sifu, Cuphead, Disco Elysium, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, Balatro - I could honestly go on.
That said, we have some bangers in the AAA department - Returnal, Elden Ring, Sekiro, Baldur’s Gate 3, every new Resi project - all bangers.
PS2 was peak gaming. So many unique games, developers were allowed and encouraged to experiment, and it reflected the attitude of the early 2000s era. Even today, there are over 4,000 games in it’s library and you can find so many hidden gems that can still give you a unique experience.
The answer is DEI. That is why gaming has become so stale. This is the natural result for not hiring off skill and merit in a creative field
Dude the quality of this channel is insanely good! Why have you not popped off yet?
I was just gonna comment this. The fact he has only just under 10k subs is insane
Came here to say the same thing.
There just really isnt that much of a reason to buy a ps5
Honestly? I don't disagree, as someone who has one. This whole generation has been a little disappointing. I don't even play that many AAA games.
I only bought a series s to play digital 369 games. Good times.
While the first party line-up has been lacking, I don't regret getting my PS5 because a lot of PS4 games that I didn't finish got framerate patches, and I've spent more time gaming and less time staring at loading screens. For me, the PS5 has been a great investment in all areas except first party gaming.
I only got a PS5 on a Christmas sale. After a few months . I don't see anything that is different from my ps,,4 pro
Why focusing on the big players when there's still plenty of amazing stuff out there. I'd argue this year has been very solid with the release of LAD8, P3R, Granblue Relink, FF7 Rebirth, Rise of the Ronin, Stellar Blade, and plenty more to look forward like Wuthering Waves, FF14 Dawntrail, and Metaphor ReFantazio.
I kmow the PS5 has some good games but they are lacking in 1st party games and variety.
@@FezzYousuf Steller Blade 3rd party game,Final Fantasy,Rise of Ronin 3RD PARTY GAMES! Yeah Hellblade is 1st party but this is just one where are the rest? Palworld an Indie Hit. Need I say more?

I haven't had real fun since gen 6 with xbox, ps2, and gamecube, gen 7 was also solid, gen 8 it started to slip for me. This gen hasn't felt like it hasn't started yet
One point to consider, we are older now and we played a lot of games with more time and own a lot of games in the backlog so new games don’t seem that exciting to us.
It's a thing to consider, but doesn't explain why things don't look great right now. It's not just nostalgia, and not just having other games to play.
It's higher ups wanting the prettiest graphics over an actual fun game. It's dumping the most money into it and having the longest experience, without considering whether that makes it good or not.
It's companies reaching for your wallet, rather than us throwing money at them for something we actually want.
At the risk of sounding like a hipster, games have become too mainstream. In the past, gaming was still considered nerdy, and uncool. When the industry flourished, and became bigger than Hollywood and the music industry, the vultures got big cartoony dollar signs in their eyes and swooped in, inserting themselves hoping to get in on all the money.
I second this, although I don’t even have a backlog anymore and try to enjoy games as they entice me.
But yeah, recently I’ve definitely reflected on each new game that I’ve picked up and questioned why I really bought it - and this all factors down either to marketing/CZcamsrs, and what my peers are playing/talking about, and my own personal interest takes a back seat. Also having disposable income makes the decision to buy something a lot easier and requiring less thought.
It’s a strange thing to realise that I don’t even want half of the games that I’ve been buying.
@@elhazthorn918 I’d say that AAA gaming has become MCU adjacent. We’ve gone from seeing ambition and talent to over saturation and quantity over quality.
These games are getting too big, both in scope and ambition - and it really shows. I’m sick of seeing most of them personally.
One of the best smaller channels I´ve found in a while.
Keep up the great work, the humor and pacing is on the point :D
I feel that some games are still pretty hype. Metroid Dread, Kirby the Forgotten Land, Pikmin 4, and Mario Wonder were games I was seriously excited for. The reason most people aren’t excited about games is that most of them are $60-70 games that are lacking on content and have battle passes
For the Helldivers 2 scandal, there’s been a tweet going around with screenshots of Sony making the game no longer available in countries where you can’t make a PSN account, so the war may not be over. I pray for Arrowhead as they fight tooth and nail behind the scenes for their work
This and the xbox debacle (and Embracer from a bit ago) proves the AAA publisher model is no longer viable for just making games, thanks to the behavior of said publishers, it's just not safe for your product or your staff. People need to go indie as a necessity now imo. Too much overhead.
FF7 Rebirth was a wonderful, 170-hour experience that did not disappoint. That said, I’m getting older and gaming has lost some of its appeal because I’m no longer its targeted demographic. And that’s ok. I have a massive backlog that would take years to play through.
i bought a ps5 just for rebirth
would platinum again
@@cs8712 it was so good. See you in three years.
I was born in 2005 and because my dad and my neighbour were gamers i used to play so many different gamingsystems. From n64 to ps3 was my Childhood. I wish i was born earlier and grew up as a teen in the ps2/3 generation because i feel like those were the golden age of gaming. Atleast i got to enjoy it a little bit as a young kid but still, modern gaming is in a depressing state
Little known gamepass fact, when you have it you can buy games that are on the service for like 20% off from Xbox. I do 1 month every year or 2 during a decent sale and "buy" (not really ownership according to Xbox themselves, just a license) the games from the service I want then since the gamepass discount stacks. Buy 3 or 4 games, gamepass month paid off in discounts. Buy 6 or 7 or more, you save a decent amount of money. At least as far as "buying" digital licenses is concerned
The cases of the closure of Hi-Fi rush's studio, the Helldivers 2 debacle really takes a wind out of my sail in the gaming space. Its hard to look forward to stuff if this is how the developers of these games will be treated and I'm glad you covered it.
There are still tons of indie and solo devs who are passionate about games first. They could still use our support.
You ever heard of Maple Forest? A solo dev is basically making a game like Link's Awakening, and I'm planning on giving them some moolah so they can eat, while they develop the game.
Let's be real, exclusives and consoles in general make less and less sense as years go on. Consoles are basically PCs and crossplay is common
Nah, tightly optimized games will always have more staying power. Look at witcher 3 vs Cyberpunk, or death stranding vs farcry 6. If you build a game without a base experience in mind. It stays a mess.
I really do appreciate what modern gaming did to get more people to play games. I feel the standards for games back then were lower. I want to think it's one of the reasons why we had so many memorable AAA games. Developers pushing out games that exceed expectations. Now it's bigger companies taking advantage of trends in order to reach those high expectations. With game development being planed for years in advance, I understand how tough it is to stay relevant in constantly changing world. I always question if AAA companies now what they a doing. So far I still don't know what they are doing.

It's a damn shame NVidia's APUs are generally only available for (relatively expensive) laptops, and AMD's (consumer) APUs have far less compute units and shaders than their console counterparts. A small form factor PC with comparable specs to a console at a slightly higher cost would be a very attractive alternative, especially with something like Steam OS or Chimera OS.
Amazing video from a small channel, but the only issue I had was with the Helldiver's 2 segment. People didnt have to pay for ps plus, they just had to create a ps account. Many regions just dont let you, so some were unable to do something that simple
Binge watching your videos now that youtube has finally recommended your channel. Excellent content.
Outside of Nintendo titles, I'm excited for Silk Song. But that's Indie. Beyond that, I can't think of anything. So I've recently decided to go back to PS3 and play games I never got to play back then. Is a lot of fun.
Social media is the biggest problem. Always focusing on the bad and not the good.
I have over 100 games on my ps5 that i still want to play.
Over 100 games that arent ps5 exclusives lol
That's how I feel too. It feels like majority of people just seem to hate on anything that comes out nowadays. I really don't get it.
3:49 My man! Finally someone who understands why subscription models ruin your enjoyment of a game. You're FORCED to play, instead of playing when you want, or else your money goes down the drain, and at the end of the day, you're still left with nothing to own.
If you plan accordingly, Game Pass is insane value, they just don’t account for most people planning ahead. 100 hour games aren’t a good candidate for this reason. For example, I just renewed my subscription for 9 months for $72 dollars to play Hellblade 2 ($50) Still Wakes the Deep ($40?) and Stalker 2 ($70?). If I only play those 3 games, which I will play more, I’ve saved $88 vs purchasing. If I like any of them enough to buy, then I’ll wait for a sale, and will probably be on PS5 so I can get the physical edition.
@@ChesterMan-qd3xj I'd prefer to have something tangible at the end of the day. Undoubtedly, if you play a game, and never have any intention to play it again, then Game Pass would be good for you. But I play games over and over, years and years down the line, and not to mention, because of my job, it can be 2-3 weeks between gaming sessions. So it makes more sense for me to buy physical games that have all the data on the disc/cartridge.
@@elhazthorn918 I hear you, and I still buy physical, but I have never kept every game I buy, and sell if I don’t plan on replaying. I just play on Game Pass first, and buy physical later on sale now. Still comes out cheaper that way. As you can tell, I’m a value gamer.
I only have the Switch. And one thing I’ve come to really enjoy about the remakes is that it’s both given me an opportunity to experience games I missed out on initially like Metroid Prime, get a new and fresh take on a classic I enjoyed way back when like Link’s Awakening, or a little bit of both like Another Code Recollection. I understand the frustration with remakes and remasters, but I think they’ve been overall a very positive experience.
ReviewTechUSA predics another VideoGame Crash, What are your two cents on the subject???
(I know you're asking him)
I don't think it's a crash necessarily. Video games are still widely enjoyed and are a great escape from current events. More like a massive restructuring, and mostly with western companies and studios. Most of these issues are coming from western gaming companies getting out of hand, while Japanese companies seem to be thriving/making the right decisions. I'd say expect more Japanese games and companies to have prominence in the coming years.
I doubt we will see a crash, but we will see a a huge leap in popularity in all of media. Movies, Games, TV, will become more artist driven at some point and it will lead to a golden age of art. Not sure when that might be, but I hope for a day we can go on twitter and see news of good games rather than failures and layoffs and acquisitions.
There are too many non gamers who pay for fifa ultimate team every and dont give a shit about consumer friendly business practices for there to be a gimg crash
Thank God for indie developers
Good luck trying to find one that isn't a quirky earthbound-inspired rpg or an 8 bit roguelike.

I don’t mind Nintendo re-releasing upgraded old games as long as they’re games that are $100+ to get a Like New copy. It’d still be cheaper and more than likely upgraded visually. Also, for the nerds who cry about frame rates, bro, I can’t tell a damn difference. I just want to be able to buy a game, pop it in, and immediately play it without downloads. So far, only Nintendo does that. So that’s my console of choice and I’ll probably buy the Switch 2 when it releases.

Cyberpunk 2077 was probably the only game since i got a next gen system that i was totally immersed in and completed mutiple times.

Glad I found this channel. This is my jam
Nintendo basically saved this generation and I refuse to believe otherwise.
Its kinda like this with every entertainment medium once you consume the best products of all time it harder to enjoy anything else because it just feels like a worse experience.Like after playing mario kart any other racing game except for the sonic and crash ones feels boring because its just driving there are no items. Like until they make a new mario kart its going to be hard for me to want to touch racing games.
Apparently grand turismo 7, rise of the ronnin and stellar blade dont count. Big rip
GT7 is the worst entry in the series. Stellar Blade is alright but that'll end up on PC in a year or two.
I'm a Nintendo guy, so im mostly still playing TOTK. Some NSO retro re releases like Golden Sun, and psyched for Thousand Year Door. Otherwise, it is slow I understand why, since Nintendo is getting ready to drop a new system next year. And will reveal it this fiscal year.
5:10 out of those 7 titles 5 of them are available for the PS4 and the graphics upgrade is minimal. Plus Returnal and the Ratch and Clank games are on PC.
Great points about game pass. I love it but never use it oddly enough. Most of the best games on there are long jrps.
I’m also on board with the idea of simpler games. Not everything needs to be a 167 hour open world extravaganza. Some cheaper, shorter, and smaller scale first party games would be awesome.
This generation NEEDS to be longer. There are barely any exclusives and they take waaaay too long to come out now. The fact that is Sony mentioned that the ps5 is half way thru its life cycle is extremely concerning. Nobody wants a new console any time soon! We want games for the one we just got, especially when it wasn’t til last year (year 3) when the PS5 even became readily available to a majority of consumers
This guys content is brilliant 😊
Also, the live service crappy updates started from activation, not nintendo
I would say the real starting point of all this debacle is GTA 5 with GTA Online. And hopefully GTA 6 will be a giant flop and this way end that chapter.

I do find it interesting that the conversation has gone back to consoles needing exclusives. At least in the bubble that I paid attention to, last generation ppl were talking about getting rid of console exclusives and how they’re anti consumer.
For reference, the PS5 and Xbox had AW2, BG3, SF6, as new AAA-games for both consoles just last year. Then , You have games like AC6 which runs far better on the next generation. And then you have great indie games like sea of stars, Dave the diver etc. then add in the exclusives from PlayStation .
Does this generation of gaming have problems, sure, but imo every generation had their own issues that ppl just seem to ignore
Most of my games are on PS5 so I can’t really do much. Doesn’t mean I don’t have games on PC but most of the games I played and have are on the PS5.
That’s the only reason why I’m using that still and *before I go I should add that Sony has not gotten Helldivers 2 unblocked in all those countries Helldivers 2 was blocked from yet.*
Spiderman 2 but the hype I had died after the the first demo and the story was worse and improvements except swinging everything else was meh.
Jedi survivor's buggy launch turned me off from buying it and I still haven't bought it.

Stellar content, stellar production. Most underappreciated content creator. Keep it going regardless of how big you get (it's coming)!
To the subject at hand: I'm hoping that id Software puts out a massive hit this year or next. I have better faith in them than most (the snub of Mick Gordon aside).
Corporate greed has infiltrated almost every aspect of life, it would seem. People will play and pay for modern games with slop content precisely because it's what's available and advertised. It's how the consumer mind (aka actual average mind) works. Those who have gamed since childhood are always looking for the next satisfying experience, which is also natural.
I took a decade long hiatus from gaming myself, so I'm cherrypicking 10 years of content. Also having kids slows down my pace. Yup. Time to crack open that ice cold Monster.

We don’t have as much long term hype cuz games are revealed later in development, there are a million good games now, the non autistic people are getting older so they can’t feel art anymore, and we have more accesss to instant gratification. The last game I was excited for was 'No Rest for the Wicked' and it delivered. Currently playing 'The Brew Barron's' and it's amazing. Depends on what scene you're into as to how stale it is, AAA is dead but AA and Indie is popping off.
I think all ur points r valid, for a certain age group. when ur in the 20-35 age bracket it does feel like there’s not much out there in terms of “good” games.
I just feel there r good games, but early 20s to 30s have different priorities and kinda lose that need to game intensively.
0:45 Dragon Ball Sparking Zero (Oct. 11 2024), and GTA 6 (ok that one is kind of cheating, but I'm truly excited for GTA 6)
When I was young, I never look forward to any games cause I just didn't know much or was unaware. I was a flash game kid with some console games from PS2, PSP, Wii, DS and each of them had only like 2-3 games max. Nowadays I'm personally not a fan of many singleplayer games. I actually enjoy live service multiplayer games, just the aspect of playing with others and having that social aspect along with ever changing landscape from constant updates keeping things fresh.
With games today, I don't really branch out much for personal taste reasons and due to companies mostly caring about money and not the quality of the games itself, keeping me away from caring. If I want to play games I'm interested in and haven't played before, it will mostly be simulator games, city builder, or something like GTA 5 with RP and Open World. Would probably enjoy those a lot but my ADHD ass always keep me from branching out to them.
Ngl the only games that are truly worth owning a PS5 is resident evil 4 remake, Elden Ring and stellar blade despite the controversy around it. Other than that, it’s hard justify buying a modern console because the quality isn’t just there anymore. It’s why I bought a Nintendo GameCube earlier this year and have been having a blast with it.
Wait what was that game with Micheal Rat
Moussarce A indie title developed by my good friend Nick Donnoli
There’s still a few standout games. Unicorn Overlord is bloody fantastic.
Once sony and microsoft completely give up on games, nintendo’s not going to have any competition, they’ll stoop to even lower quality.
the switch is 7 years old. tbh it kinda makes sense that they're wont be many new major switch games besides remakes. We all know that games takes years to make, and they did confirm that a switch successor is coming. So I assume that behind the scenes Nintendo is putting most of their effort into developing games for the new console they are making and not telling us because thats just common practice.
And we still got Princess Peach Showtime
@@1MyNickname1 yeah and?
I do feel like the argument that "you should play other games" does hold weight because majority of the gaming community pretty much hates games outside of the popular realm. Let's not act obtuse about this. If a game isn't Mario, Mario Party, Mario Kart, Pokemon, Zelda, Resident Evil, Roblox, Minecraft, WWE, NBA2K, Madden, Call of Duty, Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, Spider-Man, or Batman then it's trash that isn't worth anyone's time. It just reminds me of the people who complain about sequels and reboots to movies and tv shows, yet they ignore the new movies and shows that come out. We see it all the time where a youtuber would post a video about an obscure show or movie and calling it a underrated gem once they finally decided to check it out instead of overlooking it because it wasn't mainstream.
Is the PS5 really 4 years old already?? God damn. I mean I'd still like to play R&C: Rift Apart, Spiderman 2, and FF7 Rebirth some day, but I'm not shelling out that much dosh just for 3 games lol.
Honestly i really enjoy modern gaming. Theres already been a few amazing games ive enjoyed this year that werent ports or remakes and while its not as much as last year theres still good stuff coming out. But i can totally understand not being able to justify $500 for a console if it doesnt have enough you want. In my opinion if a console has one game on it thats amazing thats worth it for me and that game was ratchet and clank rift apart
Duuuuude the last game I had so much fun is palworld.
Like that game I could not put down. It was the much fun. I’d say the philosophy I should’ve gotten from Pokemon however it was in palworld and it took my attention span for it than Pokemon.
Silent Hill 2 Remake is the only game keeping me going.
its weird how the new gen has been out for almost 4 years now and it doesn't really stand out as next gen. the only reason modern games can't run on ps4 & xb one is bcuz they don't optimize them and don't care...

I can keep going, but I think thats enough for now. Theres been plenty of games, across difference platforms that ive been looking forward to.
When GTA 6 gets closer to release, it will probably become the most hype game of all time.
we are in a video game dark age
The "remakes" want me to go back to the original. Too much live service garbage asking you to sign a multi year contract of your free time. And the most common unfinished games released in a broken state. None of this existed in the Xbox 360/PS3/Wii era.
Do you think the death of E3 contributed to this? I mean when you think about it, it was THE yearly hype train show that everyone would tune in for now everything just gets announced whenever and can be hit or miss whereas more eyes were on E3 like not just gamers but more casual audiences.
0:45 Death Stranding 2 & Pragmata.
Don't blame game company's for charging £70 and making shit games, blame the people buying them.
The erasure of FF7 Rebirth is palpable.
An idea for Nintendo for regarding remasters. Perhaps make them a base 30 to 40 price and make the collectors edition of there is one around 60 to 80.
If there was a fully authentic collectors edition for TTYD that really grease fans of the series some really great stuff, heck ya I would pay that price!
The problem with that is tho, why should Nintendo lower the price if it sells well anyway and give people actually what they want? Especially for a game like TTYD I am baffled to hear takes like this as the game is fully redone for Switch with everything updated to new standards. For Luigi's Mansion 2 sure it can be questionable, but TTYD?
