- A rare Shiv Kumar Batalvi Interview given to the BBC London in 1970, three years before his untimely death. Shiv Kumar Batalvi was one of the most renowned and creative modern Punjabi poets.

Undoubtedly, A legend. I don't remember how many times I've watched this video. The poem he sung in his voice is sometimes transmitted by Doordarshan Punjab which I love to hear time & again. Love you Batalvi Sa'ab. 🙏🙏🙏

Shiv Kumar Batalvi, in my opinion, and from my reading of many modern Punjabi poets such as Amrita Preetam, Paash, Professor Mohan Singh on the Indian or East Punjab side and poets such as Munir Niazi, Shareef Kunjahi, Fakhar Zaman and Nasreen Anjum Bhatti on Pakistani or West Punjab side , Shiv Batalvi is among the top five modern Punjabi poets . . . I believe Munir Niazi is also among the top five modern Punjabi poets . . . I love Shiv Batalvi's Punjabi songs as well as his masterful Punjabi poems . . . one of Shiv's fans, Iqbal Qaiser, published the entire Collected Verse of Shiv Kumar Batalvi in Shahmukhi script from Lahore, Pakistan. As I was born and raised in Lahore, and because Lahore is the central hub of Punjabi and Urdu Literary as well as Non-fiction book publishing in Pakistan, I was able to buy and enjoy this great Collected Work of Shiv jee . . . I believe the host or anchor interrupted Shiv Batalvi right in the middle of the song because Shiv Batalvi was stealing the show at that point . . . the hidden reason for this BBC interview was to cut Shiv Batalvi to size . . . Shiv jee was a great Punjabi poet, he was larger than Life in his fame and this small shitty BBC anchor wanted to cleverly try and expose the flaws and faults, regrets in Shiv's personal life . . . the anchor probably knew that the girl Shiv Batalvi loved, daughter of a big literary personality who founded Preet Lari Punjabi literary journal, had been married off by her father and had settled in the UK and that this TV interview would be seen by that girl so he began by asking Shiv if his love for this girl turned Shiv into a poet . . . what an idiot . . . Poets like Shiv Batalvi are born poets, love for a girl only gives impetus to their poetic inspiration . . . long story short, he cut off Shiv's singing in the middle because Shiv was winning in his own sweet way and the interview would go on to increase Shiv Batalvi's fame even more . . .
I also was like ye dil maange more when he sang... ufffffffff... my heart was like lost at this point
