      You’re being ridiculous. Dela Hoya is no legend and had already been exposed at this point. He dominated nobodies but lost all the most important fights of his career. Mosley had beaten him twice, even lost to Felix Trinidad, mayweather had beaten him and Bernard Hopkins had destroyed him with a body shot that sent him crashing to the canvas screaming, failing to capture the middleweight title.
      All the other greats had already beaten dela Hoya. This was his final fight. Manny had to win or it would have been embarrassing on his part. Manny was voted by ring magazine as the number 1 pound for pound fighter in the world at this point. He was no underdog here.

    Can any boxer besides Pacquiao can do that? Past or Present?

    • @CHRISTIANNWO
      @CHRISTIANNWO Před 4 lety

      Marquez actually did. Marquez fought Juan Diaz at 135, then he was scheduled to fight Floyd Mayweather at a catch-weight of 144, BUT Floyd came in two pounds overweight while Marquez came in two pounds underweight (142 vs 146). So Marquez unintentionally went from 135 to 146 (11 pounds) which is actually a pound heavier than the jump Pacquiao made (10 pounds).
      Keep in mind that many decades ago there were less weight classes so it was more common for fighters to jump 10-20 pounds or more. Times have changed.

    • @CHRISTIANNWO
      @CHRISTIANNWO Před 4 lety

      @4browsing, oh yeah, you're right with the weight. I was thinking Super Featherweight was at 135, but it's actually 130.
      It is similar to Marquez's weight jump, I'll explain. Manny fought De La Hoya at a catch weight of 145, but there was a rehydration clause for De La Hoya where he was not allowed to rehydrate over 147 pounds. This is the reason Pacquiao outweighed De La Hoya on the day of the fight (148 1/2 vs 147). So Pacquiao's total jump was 15 pounds but with a dehydrated 147 pound De La Hoya.
      Marquez unintentionally jumped 11 pounds to fight Floyd Mayweather, but they never revealed the weights of the fighters on the night of the fight (Floyd must of paid some people). Since Floyd was struggling to make weight, it's reasonable to believe Floyd rehydrated an extra 5-10 pounds. So Floyd could of weighed anywhere from 150 to 156. That would be a 15-21 pound jump for Marquez.
      At the end of the day, both Pacquiao & Marquez made big jumps.

    • @CHRISTIANNWO
      @CHRISTIANNWO Před 4 lety

      @4browsing, actually there was a catch-weight and rehydration clause. That was big news back then. It's because of these stipulations that Pacquiao's team agreed to fight De La Hoya in the first place. The catch-weight was 145, and the rehydration clause was 147. Oscar and his team simply didn't expect Manny to come in as heavy as he did.
      I think Manny would still beat a hydrated Oscar, but it wouldn't be as easy.

    • @CHRISTIANNWO
      @CHRISTIANNWO Před 4 lety

      @4browsing, you can find the info yourself if you really wanna look up articles from over 10 years ago.
      Pacquiao was criticised for fighting guys at catch-weights but I always pointed the finger at his trainer: Freddie Roach. Freddie specializes in catch-weights and picking opponents who look weak. Pacquiao had nothing to do with the catch-weights.

    • @CHRISTIANNWO
      @CHRISTIANNWO Před 4 lety

      @4browsing, you're bitter over Floyd, but I don't care about that.
      Manny's catch-weight with De La Hoya was a hot topic back then. The fact that you think it's propaganda tells me you didn't follow boxing much around 2008-2009. At this point virtually nobody was talking about Floyd vs Manny because Floyd was thought to be retired.
