7:43 what a game changer. what people who drive for long periods need is cooling. heated seats are only good for the first minutes of short trips while the rest of the cabin heats up. cooling the driver can be a helpful aid for hours at a time. making contact for long periods of time with car seats can cause uncomfortable levels of perspiration, even in cars with air conditioning and premium materials.
Dehydration occurs with lengthy use of heated seats
Need this in my car after a gym session, or football practice 😂😅

I bought a b6 estate with 170k on the clock for £1500 5 years ago. Still got it now at nearly 200k and it never lets me down. It sails through every Mot no problem.
I wanted a 5 series touring but £1500 couldn’t get me a decent one and I’m glad because the Passat has been the best car I’ve ever owned.
b6 🤦🏿♀🤦🏿♀
Same, mine has over 200k cost 1200 and drives bang on, excellent on fuel and still has enough power for the basics
How the fuck you pay only 1500 pounds for that car...i buy b5 with 250k on clock and pay 5k euro.
@@hrka44 just dropped on lucky I guess. It was 5 years ago before used car prices went crazy here, I could probably sell it for the same price now
@@jaygill5795 here at my place same b6 is stil 5000€
It saddens me that there won't be a sedan, I've had two of them. Of course even the sedan was available, VW pulled the car from the South African market. A Passat Sportline 2.0T has been the most reliable car I've ever owned, and that's even above (other German cars I've had) Merc GL500 and BMW 320i
this vw wasn't designed and made by volkswagen. In this case everything was created by skoda. You can get a skoda superb which this time is not only based on the same platform but both cars were developed in parallel by skoda. Pricewise they are literally the same in Europe. So you can still buy the equivalent car to the passat and also it comes with a better boot as the windows opens with the boot. It is no longer a traditional sedan but a liftback
I'm glad they dropped the sedan. More manufacturer need to do that. The boring looks of a standard non-coupe car with a useless tiny trunk. What's the point?
@e7234 we don't have skoda in south africa

I own a 2017 Alltrack SEL and love it. Practical, good-looking with AWD for going up to Tahoe and taking on rainstorms, it's also pretty good on gas and drives 8/10ths like my Mk7 GTI. After 42k, it has been utterly reliable with the exception of a sunroof leak that took 3 trips to the dealer to finally fix. Lastly, I got it with the 'lighting package' which all cars should have standard, it's that good. The only thing that could improve it is a diesel... but I guess that will never happen again. Sadly, VW has given up on Estates over here in the USofA. Instead we just get more and more SUVs including the awful I.D.4. So sad. I owned a 5th-gen Passat wagon too and loved that car as well. Soooooo much space, there was hardly anything I couldn't put into it and yet it was easy to park! Also, we DON't get the Audi A3 hatchback. You Brits get all the good stuff!
Over 40k for a 1.5l engine? No thanks!
Great video. You make car reviews interesting and fun to listen and watch
Solid review. I enjoy that you keep reviewing every day cars as well as the top end stuff. Its good to keep that mix
I own a Passat 2019, not full but with everything you need. I love that car.
Love the way you are presenting… very expressive yet restrained! All the best !
When I was a kid our first family car is a pre facelift B5. Always love the passat.
I appreciate the fact they went back on the touch sensitive buttons on the steering wheel. Really shows a lot from the company. ❤❤
Passat never had Touch Buttons...the steering wheel is exact the Same as in my B8
The new skoda superb has nicer materials, same layout but nicer
The worst thing in latest Superb is the terrible touchscreen interface. I still hate it after spending more than 4 years with the car.
I can see that all touchscreen galore is lifted to the new level in the new Passat.
Plus the superb you can get a diesel which is better then that crappy little 1.5
Yup
That's because Skoda did the development for the Passat
Wasn't Superb supposed to be just a budget Passat?
Luckily Skoda are making the Superb saloon and, to me, that has a much nicer interior. Plus proper dials for controlling temperature and includes the new adaptive suspension and sound proofing. It is a shame they didn’t do the PHEV with the Superb saloon though. Look forward to you doing a review of that one.
Rory is smooth with the reviews. Great job 👏🏽
Easy on the ears, very smooth presenting and with little to no drama (unlike Mat Watson throwing parcel shelves and sticking sticks in the exhaust pipes :D).
My 3BG Passat from 2002, 1.9 tdi, 200+ thousand miles keeps running like a champ. First time I’m falling for a new car. That’s a really nice Passat! Great review! 🙏
B5 audi a4 touching 200k. 1.9 tdi are bulletproof 👍
Nice car, but I think the new Superb ist better looking and has better ergonimics on the inside (real control knobs for climate, seat heating, etc.).
I agree. Having read the latest review on it, seeing real knobs again was worth the price alone (and it's a bargain price too!). Thankfully Euro NCAP is making them a measureable item from next year, meaning manufacturers will have to start putting proper controls back on the dash again. How they managed to get away with putting so much behind a distracting touchscreen, I have no idea!

I can’t help but think that this cars biggest rival would be the Skoda superb, and to be honest I’d probably go with the Skoda.

It's no coincidence that VW have palmed off the building of the Passat to Skoda.

So would I. The Skoda Superb has a nicer interior, and still has proper buttons and knobs for the aircon...Much of the new tech on this Passat went into the new Superb a few weeks back.....
Outclassed by the Skoda
Excellent reviewer
That boot rhyme you can't lie and I can't deny made me want to try.
I've got an excellent very comfy '09 tdi 170 bhp estate with leather and a/c which I use as my daily load carrier; it's got 130k miles on it and apart from a slight squeak from somewhere deep inside the dashboard, it looks and drives like a champ. Cheap enough for me to ALSO own and enjoy a much more up to date machine for fun days. If you look after a Passat well, it'll look after you.
I've got a great idea for all these massive screens that look like an afterthought that's been bolted to the dashboard. Rip the f***ing thing out and fit some good old switches and dials.
At least it's an estate which is ten times better than an SUV.

Thats a great car... Love it
That computer screen is a great way of distracting you. You should keep your eyes on the road not on the screen. Progress? I don’t think so.
Interesting to see that the new Skoda Superb has kept buttons for functions like temperature control etc. Infotainment systems are a nightmare when you should really be concentrating on the road ahead - not trying to navigate your way through a touchscreen.
Soon enough we won't even be required to keep our eyes on the road.
It's a handsome car. Pity about the infotainment screen and the lack of physical controls for air cond.
Didn't catch the price, but I assume rather expensive.
The touch buttons are an abomination in their electric cars and the thing keeps talking to you if you are someone who happens to talk to themselves occassionally while driving.
"What would you like to do?" - I'd like my company to trade you in for a toaster.
3:37 😂😂😂😂ay man you owe me good 🌱 it's all over the carpet now.. was about to enjoy this show on cloud 9
Damnit VW! Bring this to the U.S. This would be a great second car for me.
The previous generation Rline estate with the right 19” wheels was a pretty cool looking thing (shame they never gave the passat a decent engine to back up the looks). 1.5 litres and 150bhp? Are you kidding!? Anyway, this one has a whiff of the first generation MG estate - that’s not a good thing
Great looking car. I love wagons.
Great vid guys but I wish you'd wait until the RHD release before doing a review - especially with how many changes are done before release in Ireland/UK/Japan/Aus/NZ etc.
Totally nerding out on the 486 sx 25..we got the dx 66 for 2k when i was a kid! All the money in the world

Too complicated, driven cars for years and I can't remember feeling tired from going around corners. Sensors / fans/ massage/ software/ double something adjustable suspension??? I wouldn't want to see the repair costs...
This thing is nice. Better than any crossover out right now
The Honda Pilot and Toyota Grand Highlander and Acura MDX and Lexus RX are literally 10X better

Why'd you sell it then if it was so brilliant

They finally added the pre-on check engine light from the factory, nice
Together with the new Hybrid Golf, I think VW is finally back on track. An Hybrid system that make sense, proper buttons on the steering wheel and practicality; they just missed proper climate controls that you can use without looking at the dash
I like the front
they've kept the design simple 👍
With the Volvo V90 now RIP in the UK, this gives us hope.
There is also the Skoda Superb. Much of this Passat's tech went into the new Superb Estate, introduced a couple of Months back...
Sehr gute Qualität. Ist alles mit dem iPhone aufgenommen?
I love an estate car, so much more practical than an SUV. Sköda designers worked on this Passat and it shows.
3:43 with those EQS-style wheels this could easily be mistaken for a CLA Shooting Brake. Which would be awesome for VW sales down here in Singapore because we really love our Mercs (they were at one point the best-selling make and have always been in the top 3.)
You can’t use your phone but you can use that humongous tablet
that grille definitely reminds me of 00s Peugeots
This is the first generation Passat where I genuinely feel like the design looks great.
I don't like the idea that comfort will get you to your destination "fresher". A car that is ingaging and fun will get your heart pumping and keep you awake and aware. My old 5 speed e46 330i was the best example of this. I could drive that car on the Autobahn for 7 to 8 hours without any problem. On the other hand my gf's Golf Plus had me falling asleep after just an hour.
As one Italian designer said, you don't make a car for consumers' tastes, you make a car that they will buy. I don't understand why manufacturers slap a large screen, a tablet on the dashboard, and make the dashboard uglier?
Can you dim the infortainment screen at night or switch it off
You can in the Golf so I presume so.
just put electrical tape over it. like a vcr clock
Still prefer a higher up crossover/SUV. But glad this choice is still around.
Love love love it!!!!
In my opinion new Škoda Superb have better interior
VW Passat Estate sold so good at Norway, that the next new gen Passat Estate 4Motion won't be available to sell in Norway, due to the 2025 ban on Petrol & Diesel sales. 😥
In Norway, the Passat now being replaced by ID7 😥
My father was happy and wants to buy it, but it's ruined due to stupid ban.
electic cars and cold climate ...
petrol or diesel is good ... we need CO2 anyway, we are made of CO2
@emsik185 you are joking, right?
I don't understand what is going on in the world. I don't think electric only cars are a viable alternative in a cold climate. We seem to be going backwards, not forwards. How has this happened?
You don't get the 690 ltr capacity boot with the plug in hybrid btw, the battery robs some of the boot space.
I was wondering that too when we were shown the boot space initially, the level of the loading bay 'floor' was way too high compared to my current B7 estate. It looked like an electric/hybrid but that wasn't revealed till later in the review.
I had to move from an X1 to a Passat Estate and it was far from the ordeal I’d feared! I love my 23 plate Passat and by the looks of things I’ll be tempted by another when it comes time to change again. This trim and those alloys tho. Erm. Naw. It really looks like the MG from the side! The R-Line looks much much better.
Sorry did you there will be no more saloons for the Passat ?

That front grille is so large, it'd make a Peugeot 407 blush.
Good review. Curious to see one in real life, as the design is starting to grow on me. Looking to buy a new family car in the next year or so, and it's awful to see how many brands are turning SUV-only. Still, interesting to see how it'll compare to the Superb, price and quality, because the main rival to the Passat is coming from its own group.
I've got the Octavia iv. If you run out of battery the mpg is significantly worse than equivalent petrol only. Only worth it if you have good access to chargers at home and / or work.
Wide angle gaping mouth/intake seems like they referencing Toyota Camry.
Good with the return of physical buttons and a software with better computing power.
Nice Skoda
Great review as always, but you didn’t answer the question you asked in the title: is it better than a BMW Touring??
Nice lines on that car. Beautiful looking wagon style. have to research reliability before purchase. The higher the tech, the more can go wrong, not to mention expense. I'm always weary of new models that are typically rushed to market before the bugs are worked out.
Looking forward to seeing the Passat R when it’s released, probably one of the best allrounders you could buy
I hope there is a R version, I’ve been pondering what to get after my R36 and that could be just the right move!

Something wrong with people in this world... you dont get to use your phone while driving, yet they give you a 15inch screen to control many things about the vehicle?! How is that different than using your phone ? How is this allowed?
I would rather have a bigger screen so that I can easily find things on it rather than having a tiny ass screen and fidgeting around for longer to accomplish the same thing that I can quickly do with a larger screen

While i love the dynamic chassis control on my golf the front shocks are £1300 to replace and the rears £1100. The fronts start misting after not long at all and despite any mechanic you speak to saying they are poor quality VW &K will not consider misting as a warranty issue.

After the pain i had with the Golf i had, i said i wouldn't own a VW again, however this new one has piqued my interest. Decent looking motor with some nice touches & attention to detail. Need to see what powertrains are on offer as well as overall size as UK roads haven't got bigger! Also how much does it cost? No real buttons on the infotainment but having some on the steering wheel help massively! Fascinating what was said about driving fatigue as my current & previous car have high-centre or gravity and sway a lot and do find them tiring!
