- Rory goes for a drive in the new Tesla Model 3 Performance, which some people have been referring to as the Model 3 Plaid. It has more power, more torque, more performance, a new motor, new seats, and has been comprehensively overhauled to help it rival everything in its class… and even a few unlikely suspects.

For the price point it would be illegal to compare to taycan
Jesus,. this thing starts around $40k. LOL. Nothing can beat it performance/price standpoint.
That's how I feel when people compare the Plaid ($81,000 or $100,000 with track pack) to the Porsche Tycan GT ($230,000) or Lucid Sapphire ($250,000).
100% taycan is actually head turning and beautiful this thing looks like something that is called "car"
@@user-my4xu4gf1z nobody is saying the taycan isn’t a better looking car. But for almost double the price of a used taycan vs brand new Tesla it’s not comparable price/value wise the Tesla is faster, lighter and better network over the air updates, supercharging network plenty of things make the Tesla the winner by far other then looks.
Facts
This is basically the best performance car for the money in the segment by far.
And it’s not even close to boot. It’s actually insane how much power for such relatively little price
The seats were the weakest point on the old M3P. Glad they listened to feedback on that.
Weakest point has and still is its looks. Such a plain jane soulless design language.
Weakest point was the cast 20" uberturbines actually. 57lbs each corner. Apparently these new "warp" wheels are truly forged. Cant wait when ppl weigh these out
I am seriously going to see if I can retrofit these to my 2021 Model 3.
absolutely,. I immediately ruled out the 3 from the moment I sat in it because of them
@@hi-line8195why not get the track pack wheels?
car reviewers are looking for that "dance" at all times but some people appreciate the chill when you're driving to work/store/whatever then hammer it in the canyons when they feel like dancing
Not to mention - if you want more playfulness from the back end, use the track mode to change the handling balance to the exact amount of oversteer that you want. This is really not an issue at all because of that option.
dune should of played kerosene on max volume
Still to heavy but evs are in line with current heavy ice cars. Better batierit gigacasting get it to say 3600lbs then it's a winner
Agree, I always have chill mode on on my model Y, feels ,much nicer to drive day to day, still having the power
That's because they're driving enthusiasts and people that buy Teslas are not but they think they are LoL But really, for driving enthusiasts, driving a car is so much more then going from Point a to Point B. It's an experience and the connection with the car should be special and engaging. The current Tesla lineup lacks that connection.
Best review of the day... no one else mentioned it was staggered... no one else mentioned the exact reduction in lift. No one else focused on the front splitter.
Mkbhd did all of those
@@h20dancing18who?
Reviewer clearly has no idea what staggered means. It certainly doesn’t mean 19 inch front and 20 inch in the back. 😅
@@lbtobl83 Maybe we could call that "vertically staggered"? :)
Several reviews mentioned those things.
For someone who ACTUALLY owns a M3P and has had almost every I.C.E sports car out there… currently a Zl1 1le and AMG GTR…. Teslas have their own fun factor
You appreciate it for what it is, can't necessarily compare everything...they all have a place
What's fun about them?
@@sillimilli3802 you can beat basically anything on the road, on the road. The sound system is phenomenal, having full surveillance is great, waking up with as much juice as you want is amazing. Never need those useless gas station stops. Full self driving has been truly impressive. To a point I'd trust it over Uber.
What's not fun?
Of course I plan on modifying a car with my child. But for the knowledge.
For sure. I bought my M3P a little over 1 year ago having never driven one. I was shopping for a Camaro SS but the dealerships were charging approximately $5,000.00 over MSRP, plus mandatory dealer addons and I just refuse to do that. Same story with the Charger or Challenger. I just figured YOLO and took a chance on the M3P, and I don't regret it. Being able to beat nearly anything on the road (in a midsize sedan no less) is fun, and the car is comfortable. The only time I go to a gas station now is to get gas for my lawnmower. I love the sound of a rumbling V8 and if I could afford it, I'd have one (or more) of those as well.
As an AMG fan it makes me shake my head in disbelieve that this Model 3 is lighter than W206 C63se.
yeah, EVs are heavy and every review mentions it - but they're often lighter than comparable petrol cars of current gen. Cars just got obese. Makes me sad 😢
And faster😂
Oooook….. you can hardly call that an AMG
@Dou6.2 I agree, I've got a 204 and 205 currently. Saving my pennies for either a CLS63s or W213 E63s and that'll be it for AMG and I. I don't even care if the W206 is faster etc. I'm here for the noise they make.
Noise is overrated and the next generation won't care about noise. Living in the past my friend. Sorry to say

Fun fact this Model 3 performance weighs about 4050lbs which is -500lbs- 700 LESS than the new C63 AMG 4-cylinder hybrid BS.

Best stereo in any car and he’s complaining about sound
Tesla is like making love, thats better then dancing.. and its silent
I can't remember which, but there is at least one EV out there that makes an artificial kind of spaceship zooming sound when you accelerate quickly, and I remember a reviewer saying it was so pointless yet still brought him so much joy to get that audio feedback while driving. While faint, I agree that the electric whine I hear when I accelerate my (non performance) M3 does add to the enjoyment of speeding up. May be fun for Tesla to add that as an internal sound-effect at some point.
This is the best Model 3 Performance review I’ve seen so far!

You want the stalks back? No way! I LOVED that about the new model 3s. It took me 3 minutes to figure out, and I liked them way more. It’s so much simpler just having it all on the wheel. Tesla engineers nailed it, in my opinion.
Its because you don't have roundabouts in your country!
I agree completely. Storks are nasty.
@@Zripas ohhh, this is a good point: you have to be able to hit the turn signals at any orientation of the steering wheel! Signaling exit from a roundabout, that could be tricky. (Haven't had the chance to try it yet though.)
@@friede1976
Yea, in general I would not care about missing stalks, but there are situations when you need that quick turn signal change and if you are in a middle of roundabout, it will be "messy" to do it. With stalks is really easy and quite natural to hit it when you want to indicate your actions, hand just naturally slides over stalk to the direction you will be going and that's that, with buttons... Well... It's unnecessary complication. Tesla should add option or a kit which would allow you bring back those stalks, it would fly out of the shelfs like hot buns.

It sucks that we in the EU get the Performance version on a "limp mode" because of the LG battery with lower peakpower output (-50hk) - and even shorther range (-3kWh)
so is it because of the massive rear tires that the WLTP has gone down the drain compared to the previous performance model or what, or is it a combo of the 79kWh battery and bigger wheels width ?
The seats are a welcome update, the overall exterior design is very tastefull!
Missing stalks is a turn off, but probably a habit (i have test-driven the Highland 3LR for 2 hours)
So the perfect build for me would have been:
82kWh Panasonic for ALL performance
A HUD display of some kind (when it is a speed demon!)
wishfull thinking... stalks for gear and turn signals
currently owning a ModelS 85D 2015 and Model3 LR Boost 2021.. was hoping to replace the old Model S.. but now it is not a clear choice...
When will someone do a range-test and more interestingly a 100-200km/h test ? we dont care if it is 3.4 sek 0-100 or 3.1, but highway/freeway speeds are what needs extra umph from the old model3...
Straight to the point!
Noise? You’re fucking kidding?
Totally, he obviously hasn't driven a BMW M3 /s ;)😁
No noise please. Or make it optional 🫨
What else would you buy ? It’s fucking perfect .. and so affordable!
Great review. Thank you
Great video! I just watched other M3 performance tests and this is by far the most informative video. 👍🏼
Tesla is the best Car I ever drove .
Limited driving experience then
You don't so much drive a Tesla, it's more like riding in one. Fast and smooth A-to-B transport but far from an engaging drive...
Psst. Keep that to yourself
@@real-eyes-realise-real-lies hey, 6 time fast Audi driver here (S6, RS6, UrS4, A6 S-line, 5000QT)… Tesla’s the best car I ever owned too (MYP, MSLR). Never going back to gas, and I certainly don’t miss the Audi service desk. Never going back to gas.
Previous model was 393 kW. That’s 527 bhp.
There has been different power levels depending on battery.
@@christianolsen9781 Correct. I have a 2022 and my V5 document has this number for the power it was registered with.
Correct...I also read the new performance was 613bhp?
@@jeffj8825 that wouldn’t surprise me!
Amazing engineering
I’m more curious about the 60-90 mph acceleration. I have the older 2022 M3P which is close in 0-60 to this one. Where my older M3 performance sucks is the freeway acceleration, so I wonder if this one is much better at freeway pulls.
