    INTPs if they're not careful can turn into hollywoods archetypical losers. But, INTPs have crazy power, should they choose to wield it...

    At first, I thought that developing Fe and becoming more "whole" is a way to "win" as INTP but then I quickly realised that it's actually not. Like it or not, most of the recommendations I've got from other people are about improving "emotional intelligence", whatever that means. Of course, I do know the term but I would not call it intelligence. I have an image that INTP's concept/model/type is a balance of "self" and "them" and there are so many of "them" that you absolutely cannot satisfy each and every one of "them" to the fullest. So, it's just a matter of making the balance right. Maybe that's why INTP's don't need that many people in their lives (the fewer people you have, the more you can give to each one of them)?
    Why do INTPs need all this time to themselves? I think for creating revolutionary ideas, for change on a mass-scale. So, I would say that the recipe to win as INTP is to learn how to sell your ideas to others. We spend a hell of a lot of time pondering about god knows what. But that results in a deep analysis of any domain of our choice and that's why we can speak about such abstract and high-level ideas. Ideas are just what we are. We are our thoughts. And there must be someone that can grasp them and apply them to practical matters that can be helpful for many. That's the deep, intense motive inside INTP's brain/heart. We get a kick of it.
    After watching a movie about Bill Gates (who is typed as INTP), how he attempted to solve the "shit" problem in third world countries, I realised he must be a freaking happy man: he has all the time to satisfy his hunger for knowledge and he has time to analyse globe-level problems. He got the idea and he convinced people to make it happen and they went for it (and for money, of course, so we cannot get financial interest out of the equation). That's a win for INTP to my opinion.

      Nelly Kuznetsova now, I find it interesting that you first sort of denounce emotional intelligence (“whatever that means” has some very cynical undertones), and then say that the key to INTP greatness is selling your ideas to others. That REQUIRES developed EQ. If you cannot connect to people in a real way to get them involved in and excited about your ideas, the ideas are as useless as if you have never spoken them aloud. People can sense when you are disingenuous, so you have to develop some amount of emotional intelligence to communicate your ideas and get people excited. They go hand in hand

    • @nesnesnesnes
      @nesnesnesnes Před 4 lety +31

      @@milo_thatch_incarnate This is true, but only partially true. If you look at a bigger picture, do you think that all people get interested only when their emotions are involved? How about people that get interested when they see a financial gain or influential gain or intellectual gain or explorational gain or stability gain... the list goes on. It's possible that the word "sell" in relation to ideas gives it a negative meaning as if it's used in advertising. What I actually meant by "selling ideas" is "convincing to take part in implementing ideas" and this has little to do with marketing. Though again it depends but it removes "disingenuous" flair.

    • @milo_thatch_incarnate
      @milo_thatch_incarnate Před 4 lety +10

      Nelly Kuznetsova I appreciate your point of view, but I think marketing your ideas is still just as important as selling them intellectually. People are emotional beings as well as intellectual ones (those that are almost entirely unemotional are very very rare) and so either you have to be able to market to peoples hearts AND brains, or find somebody who can market to emotions while you market to the brains. That’s more of a cost to you, to hire that other person.

    • @AlchemistCH
      @AlchemistCH Před 4 lety +34

      @@milo_thatch_incarnate "People can sense when you are disingenuous" - And that's exactly the biggest INTP problem: people who think they have the supposed "emotional intelligence" constantly seeing things that aren't there and were never meant to be there. It's a very clear conclusion that most of that "EQ" is not any kind of absolute, but just some extrovert code (which may also vary region to region and culture to culture, making it a bigger mess) which has very low reliability regularly giving both false positives (and constantly manipulated for that - now these manipulations are often recognizable by INTPs and perceived as deeply negative, where other people too often let those slide. Even worse, that's what INTP defines as "disingenuous") and false negatives (INTP is likely to have a collection of such cases with no clearly definable pattern other than people making things up).
      And even when you try to learn it, people totally fail at explaining what exactly they pay attention to - other than giving overall feedback completely unrelated to what you were truing to communicate.
      And if your advise is basically "learn to do what you consider disingenuous (primarily, social manipulations) in order not to be perceived as disingenuous" - that's a very self-defeating advise, as it basically boils down to everything being or seeming disingenuous for completely random reasons.

    I think the problem with a lot of INTPs, or at least in my case is that we lose hope. Why should we keep looking to be accepted and successful when we’ve always failed. Its crushed my spirit as a kid.
    I taught myself how to read by listening to my parents teach my older sister and just hanging around, that kind of set the bar for the rest of my life. By 8 i was reading my mom’s college papers for fun. I used books as an escape to a world where i belonged..... where i really felt like i was surrounded by friends who truly cared about me and understood what it was like to be me. I was outcasted at school even as a kid and i was lucky to have 6 people who would notice i existed. I was constantly lonely. With a deep need to feel loved and accepted by the people who would never give that to me. Im 87% logic/feeling so i dont really understand when people get EXTREMELY emotional over trivial bs. On top of it im a female INTP and fluctuate between INTP and INTJ depending on what mood im in when i take the test. I was an extremely gifted child but now im just burnt out. Life took more from me than i gave it as a child. And being logical it makes no sense to keep trying and giving when nothing ive done has worked or made me happy. And ive tried everything under the sun. I stopped trying.

      I type as INTP and this I can relate to very much unfortunately. The failures and the loss of hope is crushing. So much so that I want to change my personality entirely. The easiest lever I think is if we can try to expand our extraversion. If we can become more extraverted, more ENTP-like, we are likely to be more productive I think. But the INTP is possibly the most introverted of all MBTIs, so perhaps that is too much of an ask?

      I just wrote a huge paragraph someplace else's about how I always end up feeling depressed and out of place. I can certainly relate to what you said. I think the 'being a female' factor might play a role in increasing the feeling of hopelessness, maybe because rational and logic are more commonly attributed to a male predominance, which makes us feel even more misunderstood. Maybe because our type has a fragile equilibrium when matched with our hormonal or social baggage. I don't know.

    While being an "advisor" seems like a great idea, as you can be basically a puppet-master, but the problem is finding people that will listen to you, most people dont want truth or practicality, they want validity for thier ideas, they want people to confirm that thier ideas are right and when its not they will get all effy about it, so thats a no for me.
    I'd rather work a bit harder and learn to take decisions and have a bit more control over my life, than to try and talk some sense into people who dont want you to be right. the only authority I don't hate is the authority I have over myself.

    INTPs can be great teachers in serious private studios or in tutoring. I highly recommend it. Very fulfilling-- just remember that the lessons will be great once you're there. As always, INTPs freak about having a commitment later in the day-- but the commitments are always fun once you're there.
    The theory of mind that INTPs can construct-- the parsing of cognition structure-- makes them invaluable for learners. MANY people can do things but not explain it. INTPs can explain it.

    Omg! This makes me so happy because it confirms my observations and what others say my strengths are! I had some people saying I could be a good tutor if I decided to reach at uni and I've noticed I'm really good at pointing out flaws, weak points in a design and proposing solutions to fix them and then improving greatly projects of my uni friends and my sibling. People come to me for advice too (though more on stuff that's not about relationships haha, more like work- related problems). And I take great joy in improving other's work like this! Especially if that person was about to give up their ambition and turn in whatever that's passable but I managed to inspire them again so we can be proud of the result together! It's a bit tricky though because to advise like that, I should first become really good and experienced in the field I'm advising for, right? Ah and that means actually doing the work myself. But at least this gives me a clear goal to push myself through this, to be able to reach the role I was meant for in the end! And I've realised something that makes "doing the work" less dull, that it's arrogant to assume you can foresee how everything goes, how the system works, without actually doing the thing, that we can actually see all of the variables and how they interact. In reality, things often have these random elements of chaos in them and learning to avoid them can best be achieved by actually doing the thing. It's just like with drawing, once you can convey more complexity, your ideas themselves get more complex and there's more deliberate choices there, more logic because you can understand better what interacts with what.

It's not that we can't do it, but it felt like trying too hard for me. Tutoring is a different story, though.

    Here’s the problem with the idea of an INTP associating as an adviser to those in authority. Management positions, as I experienced them during my entire working career, were filled with the most narcissistic individuals-the least likely person an INTP could align themself with. These narcs were always defensive, particularly towards those who were independent thinkers, surrounding themselves only with sycophants. It was disgusting! I love strong people, people with intelligence and courage but those types were as rare as hen’s teeth. That’s why when Trump says he wants to drain the swamp, man can I relate-it was swamp, through and through! The government was the pettiest, stupidest and most wasteful operation imaginable.

    Your advice is really accurate. I am really good at teaching. Before exams etc. I used to teach my classmates and they learned it so well, they had better scores than I did

    I think the most frustrating thing is when you genuinely think of good solutions or plans of action for someone and they just do the exact opposite and screw themselves even more. Some people don’t want to hear the right solution (edited, I don’t wanna say that I have the right solution every single time but I think it will definitely be a step in the right direction)

      I don't see a huge problem if they screw after the advice was given. The huge problem is to be called to help them solve the mess they made 2 or more times in a row.

    But because I love the way you describe cognitive functions, and because there are very few videos about ISTJs, I am hoping you would do one about them soon. My friend is an istj, and most videos miss her funny, odd side. Thank you.

    But the question is why did I spent 3 hours trying to fix it when everyone said to get a new one.

      Find yourself some research that backs up why it is important for him as a human being to shower. Preferably, some sort of scientific argument that has nothing to do with social interactions

      Tell them that people won't be attracted to them/ won't like them.Inferior Fe can worry about how other ppl feel about them. That should be enough. Go for the juggular. That's what they respect.

    Interesting video, good job! I especially agree with the part on teaching. With the people I have invested time into & effectively undergo 'mentoring', together, we accomplish a lot & I feel that I have made a positive contribution to the people around me, and I get quite a bit of gratification from those experiences. I am definitely home 99% of the time when off work though...
