  • The spotlight on Nvidia's (NVDA) upcoming earnings has also put a spotlight on global chip production as multiple data points reveal China has ramped up production of legacy chips, which are semiconductors built on nodes that are 28 nanometers or larger. These chips are foundational given that most of the world's technologies are built on these types of semiconductors. The ramp-up in production has caused some in the US to become concerned that China will flood the global market with cheap alternatives, leading to a price collapse for the chip industry.
