Luka gets a chance to play the New-crons as he and Matthew decide to play a complete power based army list as some of the new models have no point costs yet. Matthew also tries to bring the largest Genestealer Cult army he can only using the power system.

"Brood-father! Our scouts have reported Necrons!"
The elderly patriarch glanced around at the glowing green edges of the black stone that seemed to surround the area. He then glanced back at the reporting miner and tried to smile his approval; the lesser brothers and sisters do so need his approval. "R-really? You don't say?" Deep breath, deep breath, don't be disappointed. "Good work... You and your team will be rewarded. Did... Did the scouts report how *many* Necrons there were?"
"Oh no, my benevolence! The scouts were all killed in the opening moments of the battle. We suspect there are many."
"Okay, that's... That's fine. This is fine." The patriarch sighed and rubbed at his ridged forehead.
"Tell me broodling, what colours were those Necrons wearing?"
"Gold and blue, Broodfather!"
"That explains why my relic staff is missing. The archovist is about"
Immortal: "Let me see what you have!"
Acolyte:" A knife!"
Nooooooo!!
NO!
NOOO
No!!!
thats not a knife, this is a knife
Matt and Luka have to be my favourite combination of players on this channel.
Loving all the banter and discussions in between turns and actions. So much more interesting than "3's to hit.... 4's to wound..." ad nauseam.
The talk at the end about power creep was great input from the crew. Keep up the great work and stay safe.
Yeah, I really want to start collecting and love the look and feel of tyranids, but am always second guessing myself because of power level issues
Nids dropping in to borrow a cup of sugar and the Crons be all, "get off my lawn!"
These aren't nids.
@@hellinterface6721 Gene stealer are from nid faction
Necrons are literally angry old people
@@veil.of_maya Angry boomer yells at all zoomers to get off their damn lawn before they rend the flesh off their bones and vaporize the bones from there. Zoomers refuse. Chaos ensues.
Really great battrep, MWG. The banter about points vs power level, 9th rules changes, and GSC rules were all really interesting and fun to hear.
Cullen is doing a phenomenal job as your full time video editor. It has really upped your game.
You'd think why I'd want a mini war gaming vault membership is to see the thousands of their batreps and endless helpful tutorials. But no... it's because the videos on youtube are numbered 1 to 3 to 7
Lol, whatever it takes! :)
Keep on keeping on Matt. I play orks and necrons and they are both on the harder side to play well. It just makes winning with them that more satisfying
I’m a Necron player, and I feel for Tyranid players. Space Marines have gotten WAY too much love
Apparently GW is planning on phasing actual nids out.... just a rumor
@@kalebblaine882 I highly doubt that. They might phase out a lot of their older bad sculpts but there is no way they'll just remove a faction like that. The niche of unknowable aliens wouldn't be filled if they did that.
@@kalebblaine882 tyranids play an intrinsic part in the lore, they won't get phased out every, unless wiped out which is nearly impossible, do you realise that the hive fleets are basically scouts? :P
@@nameisbad That what they say each time a new hive fleet arrive... the only reason they exist is to make other faction looks good. A SM Character defeating swarmlord is as much as a joke than whith Khain...
@@jean-philippehaufroid6425 wrong, tyranids are basically there to cement that all the other races have lost. you look at a tiny cherry picked subjective point like yours and I feel anyone could make a semi valid argument, but when you look at the whole grand scheme of things, tyranids number in such a high amount that no race can really deal with them. orks would slow them down and eventually lose, space marines would lose, imp guard would lose, eldar would lose, necrons is questionable, i think at best they could draw but it's unlikely and same goes for chaos (daemons).
Truth is that tyranids represent the ticking clock, just like chaos did for the old world of fantasy.
If shit will hit the fan for the universe to come to a close, it'll be due to the tyranids.
and for every space marine who killed a swarmlord, there's hundreds of space marine corpses underneath that swarmlord. hell look at the battle of mcragge, there's a bit of art out there of a swarmlord on top of ultramarine bodies lmao.
here's another point of view, the necrons big bad boi killed gods, he went for many many years to fight tyranids in the warp, he accomplished what out of it? lol. nothing.
you talk of the swarmlord as if it's quality, but the tyranids aren't about quality, quality is just the minute amount of glue that holds together their real strength; *quantity*
I would love to see more of those open discution at the end of your battle report ! Keep it up !
Hey guys, really enjoyed this game! I’ve been dabbling with Nids/Cult a lot towards the end of 8th and some practice 9e games. I believe what Luca was referring to is Jackals with Demolition Charges using Lying in Wait, Extra Explosives, and Drive By Demolitions (rusted claw strat, which helps but isn’t 100% necessary). 5D6 S8 AP-3 D:D3 can nuke a vehicle or two for 100points and 4CP. I’ve also found that running genestealers, swarmlord, and zoanthropes/neurothrope to be quite good as an allied patrol detachment (only 2CP), mostly because the thropes/swarmlord can soak up a lot of fire which really helps cult out. Even without kraken, the genestealers can get in turn one relatively easily, so I usually use the custom fleet adaptions to get rerolls on psychic tests to get more smites off. Anyway, hope this helps with list building!
I love that terrain. Super simple and looks great. Going to do up a set similar for my local store.
One model that would help out a lot is the Clamavus. Add his bubble in with the +1 to charge for the 4 armed emporer and you got a 7" charge on your key units.
was in hospital and your battle reps kept me sane so thank you for being awesome and fun to watch
Hope you are doing better man.
I’m sorry to hear that you were stuck in the hospital, but I’m very happy to know that we could help! :)

@@RVD20012 awesome man, always good to be back home after going through that.
I think you really really nailed the main issue at the end of the video. GW, and most printed games that iterate upwards through editions, make $$ through incrementally imbalancing the game. We play along despite this, or because of this, or a mixture of both.
Very enjoyable bat rep guys! Never despair Matt, where there's a will there's a way with every army!
I'll keep trying! :)
Brood bother looking at the ground “what are those?”
I feel ya Matthew, I do love the Cults, but right now it really does feel like they simply run out of steam very fast and support themselves in a very specific playstyle, aberrants or bikes. I hope they get revitalized in the new batch of codexes (and that they don't get another Greater Good treatment lol). In the meanwhile try looking into the Twisted Helix or even Bladed Cog for ther strats (super aberrants in one, DTFE in the other) and psy powers, and try again the Vigilus detachments (as GW sayed that all books are still usable)
Will do! I’m playing a game today with them with a Vigilus detachment. I won’t give up on them!
@@miniwargaming Also double check the Aberrants with power picks. They get one rending Claw attack per attack with pick in my copy of the codex. I think you only gave them one attack, similar to how the Acolyte knives work.
Sad to say matthew if the vigilis worked you cant bring it its banned
The Scalpers are raging now with the made to order announcement so much scumbag rage!
Yeah I did send messages to the ones here in Poland.
As a SM player I completely agree with all that has been said. We need a nerf. Is not funny to play like that.
idk if space marines are strong but why the nerfs to everyone else :( kicking us while we are down
And then we got a buff, lol
(I assume we're going to get a nerf in points to compensate)
Your summary of where 'Nids and GSC are at, is spot on. Such a shame.
I'm just picturing the Cult freaking out about fighting the Void xD. That and immortal Robots are probably a pain to kill when all you have is industrial equipment
Amerrack Hunter no there a pain to kill when you have tanks and Anti tank weapons, there impossible to kill with industry equipment
Yeay! New necrons with Luka! I'm so happy right now!:D
Great battle report. Thanks for sharing.
Your back in the studio.
Nice.
God damnit the necrons look sick
I 100% agree with Matthew during his talk at the end.
I love the gimmicks of the genestealers, its a very unique army to fight against
I think morale back and forth, in addition to what Matthew said, is a consistency thing. If it's back and forth then it works like the Combat phase (the other phase where both players, conceivably, have stuff to do).
Very enjoyable was rooting for the cron's love me some cron's to the Vault I say.
that Board is gorgeous!
GSC are in a pretty rough spot heading into 9th. Bladed Cog has worked best for me w/ lots of neophytes as a base, a jackal alphus for the hit buff and a icon ward for the FNP to keep them on the board and actually hit things. I usually run 4 10 man squads w/ 2 mining lasers and 2 grenade launchers, they can usually chip away at quite a bit over the course of the game and could be surprisingly durable depending on cover. They also ignore the hit penalty for moving and firing the lasers as bladed cog. The Achilles Ridgerunners are super solid these days especially with the greater good strats. I think you can also make purestrains viable as bladed cog w/ their greater good psychic power to give them a 5+ FNP. Throw in a patroll detachment of 4 armed emperor hybrids w/ a primus w/ broodlord strat to give extra cp to potentially mitigate cost. The rockgrinders could also be decent depending on what their relative cost ends up being w/ the flamers to alow them to shoot in combat. Of course, I haven't been able to test any of this out but so far its what I can think of to make them work half way decent.
I Feel like Genestealers need the creed buffs and the cult will be amazing.
I like it how they are playing on a transport ship. Points for being creative studio,
A thing that surprisingly (sort of) works for me in GSC is Pauper Princes. I always thought them to be the worst creed but their WT is just sooooo good, especially combined with brood brothers. Drop a Patriarch with the WT near a 20 man Brood Brothers unit. Charge him into the biggest threat your opponent has, preferably with Multi-Dmg Attacks and see OP attack the Patriarch who just passes every failed save on to the BBs on a 2+ while he shoves his massive claws up enemy models' behinds. Also, the BBs are cheap and, most of all, Troops, making them able to get back D6 models each turn.
Nice post game from Matthew. Good points on what I think most non marine players are feeling, and the emotion that backs it up. As well as the power creep of marines they also have gone from the “master of none” to master of everything. Why play other armies when marines can do everything - but better? Fortunately for me none of my friends play marines but it really puts me off ever going to a store knowing I’ll face marines.
Its more a primaris thing, as a ba play i despise the primaris because of my live of death company and sang guard but the amount on extra that primaris gets under my skin as a oh just get primaris look how much better they are
Are all scalpers dirtbags, or are all dirtbags scalpers? Biggest question of our time.
All Scalpers are dirtbags. Not all dirt bags are scalpers some are to thick.
GW just announced its now made to order! lol
GW are dirtbags for making too small number of boxes
Yay! Let’s go on EBay together just to taunt dirty scalpers who would have been charging outlandish prices... now they will make no profit lol, hell to unload their ill gotten large numbers of boxes they may even have to offer a discount... 😄
This is great news. Hope all the scalpers take a huge loss on this one!
it hurts to see him forgetting scarabs can self destruct
Achilles Ridegrunner with jackal alphus are good. I play them :)
Correct me if I am wrong, but Brood Brother's leaders come base with a laspistol and chainsword, not the lasguns.
They do. That was my mistake. I was looking at the war gear selection part, and forgot that they get them by default.
How did you paint those abberants! I want them.
Is there a tutorial for making that awesome necron terrain?
Don't know much about table top but love the videos! Just curious if in a competitive match if its normal for each player to explain their characters and their attributes before the other players moves or is that just something done in friendly's? For example, Luka asked about that one character to stay out of intervention range after being told its attacks.
You definitely should be open about your abilities, and try to remind your opponent about things you can do, especially if they make a comment about something they are doing and you realize they misunderstand / don’t know what your units can do.
Do you guys use tape measures or best judgement?
i only play gsc. only starting gun vehicles as blips on the battlefield works well to create a homogenous defence.
then having all ur infantry coming from underground works well.
I wish I could play chill games like this in washington state, everyone just plays ITC style lists and missions.
We play pretty chill up in Bellingham. Where are you?
I wish i could play some competitive in Italy, everybody here play nothing but narrative XD

@@IvanGTerrace I play with a more casual group based around the Warhammer store in Fairhaven. That group is way more chill. Anyways I'll give you a totally friendly game some time.
my thought for the Nihilak dysnasty, is that the pronounciation is like anNilila(k)tion. Cause murder robots.
I might be missing a change from eighth to ninth, but Nihilahk Dynasty lets you reroll ones whenever the model shoots, even in Overwatch. You had a bunch of ones on that Doomsday Ark's Overwatch that you could have rerolled Luka!
I think I moved them every turn! It's only if you remain stationary in the previous move phase
Why do the scarabs get 4 attacks per model? I'm pretty new to the game and the weapon doesn't say anything about that?
Even though GSC seem to lack steam to keep going, I kinda want to get a small force of them to bridge my Guard and Tyranids, plus Ridgerunners feel right at home as replacement tauros. Would love to just run GSC as just a PDF army to a greater IG force.
I’m not giving up on them! I will find a way to make them playable! Thankfully I can also just have my opponent bring less optimal lists so that we can still have fun with them.
I will say that Lukas yellow dice roll absurd. I would just use his dice lol
I’m confused. When did Brood Brothers leaders lose their chainswords? I’m looking at the codex and the leader comes with a chainsword, laspistol, and frag grenades as default.
I'm guessing they got an update somewhere, then the codex becomes irrelevant...
Mysbenspysen95 that’s a really weird thing to update. It’s not in the official errata, I just checked.
@@pickle_38 MWG messes up a lot so..
They tend to mess up rules a lot and make terrible list matchups
Case in point he goes on how the sergeants cant take chainswords when they literally can, per the codex. Because they dont read the rules and they play the armies terribly.
Play Orks since 3 edition.. same codex until 5th edition?
For shooty GSC you should try a squad of Ridgerunners with a Jackal Alphus and use Overcharged Weaponry. Good tank killing firepower for real cheap
Really enjoying the 9th ed stuff - have you got plans for a crusade campaign at all?
We’ll definitely be doing narrative campaigns soon. I’m not sure if it will be a pure Crusade campaign, but I do plan on using some of those rules.
Did you miss the 5++ for the cryptek at the end?
Necrons are my main and Genestealer Cult are my second fav i like there play style and appearance will don't know about the new rule book for the necrons.
Bladed Cog Neophytes (mining lasers) and 5+++ flamer bombs and TH or C4AE Acolytes are good. 10 basic Pick Aberrants is probably best build (Abominant can get a 3++ with relic and minus damage warlord trait). But remember, Aberrants get a claw attack for EACH pick attack (not just one extra attack).
How did you like Jackals as objective grabbers at -1 to hit?
Jackals are awesome objective grabbers. A min squad is just 40 points and is super fast, surprisingly resilient, and even a little killy!
I am a little bit confused. Why was the Doomsday Ark able to shoot the engaged Unit? What did I miss?
Vehicles and Monsters can shoot at models within engagement range unless they are Blast weapons. If they are Heavy weapons they suffer a -1 hit penalty.
Matt I play gsc and in my opinion the most effective way too build them is twisted helix or the cog creed. The vehicles are decent and actually quite punchy where as twisted helix is all about beefy aberrants. I tried too do hivecult and make sgooty genestealers but it just doesn't work
Those Necron bases look great, how did you do them?
There is modelling sands and grasses you can get
Poor GSC. It's a very cool concept of an army but they need a new book and a rebalance.
you dont actually have to end the charge move in engagement range of all things you declare, your roll just has to be good enough to get into range of everything you declare
No that is not correct. It specifically states that you must end in Engagement Range of everything you declared a charge against, otherwise the charge fails.
Ah mathew you aged like a fine wine.
I’m actually debating if I want to keep the Necrons in Indomitus and start an army with ‘em.
Never a wrong choice!
I'm looking to run 9 achilles ridgerunners, with 18 strength 4 shots and 3d3 las cannon shots x3.. with cp to improve both and a jackal alpha to increase some to hit rolls. Hoping I can make our 4 armed boys have a punch
Would happily listen to more "old man rants"... someone needs to push GW into beginning the rebalance. Especially helping out xenos.
1:16:55
Did you check to see if that whole unit is within 14" of the target? Looks to me like only the front 2-4 models are within firing range.
would also like to add ashmodi for dreadnaught he was epic and should be honored LAMENT im so glad i signed up to the vault sooo much good stuff honestly been watching tons of content watched like 3 full campagins so far
An example for the morale I could think of is if you had a squad of reivers on their last model which lower the leadership of adjacent models right? So if the reivers go first, that leadership loss is gone but if second the opponent might lose their leadership.
That’s true. I’m sure it will come up, just not that often. It’s not a bad rule at all.
Moar Necrons!!!
Can the Immortals Fall back and act normally now? Or was some stratagem used?
An ability was used from one of the characters.
When cult come in from ambush are they claased as remaining stationary?
Yes
All my best tactical plans start with: "kill things and take objectives. It is sound strategic strategy.
Where do you get that terrain?
I remember them saying Green leaf terrain and game mat eu
Just the Luka the....beard? All joking aside it looks good on you.
It's pretty grim for GSC.
Use a clamavus and rock grinders to deliver the abberants
What your terrain is made of?
Living metal
Why are the necrons so shiney? How do i achieve this?
I think it was the lighting of the celing that reflected to the silver paint
I like when Matt gets beat because he cries so much
Having a dedicated online app may bring about balance changes faster.
If they adopt a similar model to ffg with their second edition xwing, they keep the points online so they can adjust them up and/or down every six months or so.
Too bad it costs so much, get the list building on battlescribe for free
Oh I don’t think $5 a month is really that bad. Considering what it includes I think it’s a steal. And now you can buy the physical books and unlock them in the app.
I find it strange that in an expensive hobby like this one people would complain about a program that costs the equivalent of one paint pot a month.

The blast weapon targeting a unit of 6-10 make a minimum of 3 total attacks, not 3 per die.
That’s correct if it is one blast attack that rolls 2d6. But if it is multiple blast attacks that do d6 attacks each, then each one of those would be minimum 3.

Hi can some one explain why the quantum deflection strat for crons couldnt be used with the DDA. the strat allows equal or under the damage caused to be ignored. The aborants were only causing multiples of 1 damage. So these should have been preventable by rolling 1s. (This was confirmed with FAQ to allow this). Thanks for any help.
This is true, I don't know why they talked about that you can't modify die under 1 as being new, when it has been in 8th edition too. So DDA could negate damage of 1 with strat.
@@MrLegendarySaiyan
Glad I wasn't total lost on that one then lol. I watched that part three times, trying to make sence if I missed something.
You have to roll under the damage caused. You can’t roll under a 1 when your dice rolls can’t be modified below 1.
@@miniwargaming
Hi MWG thanks for the reply, your right it's true with standard quantum shielding you can't prevent damage in increments of 1 but if you use the quantum deflection stratergem you can prevent damage amounts of 1. That's what confused me in your play through. When it was stated you can't use QD to stop the damage on the DDA.
'Q: Can the Quantum Deflection Stratagem allow a unit with
the Quantum Shielding ability to ignore attacks with a Damage

This is copied from the necron 8th ed FAQ.
That's why I wondered what the damage the aborants were causing to invalidate the QD strats rule.

Why is wysiwyg important in power level games vs points games?
i watched this with .5 or 50% speed (half speed = twice as long! lol) and i loved the 4 hours, and the conversation was much more absorbed until i muted it with asmr in background an hour and twenty minutes through (that was really 2hours and 40 minutes! lol) although, and i did all kinds of things like eat lunch, play guitar, take a power nap and now at an hour 28 minutes showing i felt like writing about it. isn't it great! lol. have fun and stay safe. oops need to unmute it to learn about POWER CREEP! hahahahahhah yesh this station has the goods!
