I would be glad if we don't forget that most video games or 3D experiences that users pay for are FOCUSED EXPERIENCES. It does one(or few) things really well in a focused and organised manner. Like XCOM 2 satisfies your need to feel like a military tactician and your progression as a player ties to this specific need you have.
Everything systems such as GPT don't seem to create focused experiences. They might facilitate the development or meet some very specific needs (like you mentioned the NPC dialogue). But, it doesn't supply the CORE need that makes player PAY. If I am wrong, would like feedback from you.

Yes, I can certainly see that. For many games, GTP integration does not make sense, and could even distract from the core experience. Where I do see benefit is NPC interactions in role-playing games, where you have an expansive world with it's own lore. Although, I have been thinking lately, that massive online GPT models (such as OpenAI's), are really overkill when it comes to something in the vein of Skyrim for instance. Currently, you have to instruct ChatGPT to stay 'in character' and make sure that conversation stays within the constraints of the fictional world, and of course, you need to pay for the API access. Maybe smaller, locally running GPT models, trained specifically on the game's lore, could be a solution?
