    I have this model and the battery drain every month. They sent me a new under warranty. Good for a couple of months and same thing happen. Yes, I duracell and energizer. Sorry, I just use the dial now but I need to wear glass to open. Wish the digital work as it should.

    I bought one of these and had two major issues. 1- three screws were rattling around in the dial. I ended up taking it apart and fixed that. They were screws that should’ve been securing the circuit board. 2- the default mechanical combo didn’t work. So I took the lock apart to manually reset the combo and noticed small plastic gears are used to manipulate the locking mechanism for electronic AND mechanical functionality. Also the internal relocker relies on a very small piece of plastic. After seeing what’s inside this lock and what’s inside the S&G mechanical lock, I’m sticking with S&G.

    Ordered my safe today and was still stuck on mechanical or securam lock. I went with manual and they dealer said i have a week to change my mind. Still think i will stick w manual.

    There is a second option if your electronic lock goes bad. Get a second working keypad dial that you know the code. Open it up and disconnect the harness that goes inside the door (from the keypad side). On my La Gard 3715 keypad it required removing two phillips screws, pulling the board out from the keypad (the ribbon cable going from the keypad to the board is a simple tug on the ribbon cable to free it. That will allow you to pull the board. I had to rotate the board a bit to get it off. Then I needed to remove the hot glue holding the four wire connector to the connector on the board. Swap boards this way and you are good to open without drilling.

    This lock here is the Rolls Royce of safe locks...On another note, ..I want to see safes key pad and locks being made with something else besides the thin wire that connect the 2 ..Imagine if ones key pad wire to internal lock was pulled out, or cut short leaving no way for the 2 pieces to make contact...then your screwed ..I like to see a back up connect perhaps a jack like plug thats affixed to the safe door behind the keypad in case the flimsy wire is pulled out or damaged too in ways rendering it useless..I guess with a little electrical skills one could fashion one themselves.

    How about a video showing the internals. So people can see how strong it is. The metal dial isn't worth much if the internals are just weak plastic.

      I'd also like to know what the wheel pack itself is made of.

    Wayne, I installed this lock a week ago and it does work great. For some reason though it drained my Duracell 9V block dry within a week. Not sure what is going on there yet but the voltage of the cell was down to 2.6V without doing much more than just sitting there. I replaced it with another battery and will keep an eye on it. You didn't have any such issues or heard anything about such a thing?

    • @BrassStacks
      @BrassStacks Před 6 lety

      Have you fixed the issue, or is it still a problem?

      Yep, mine does the same thing and was replace and does it again. I just mechanical now.

      @Gregg Sinini I had issues with my original lock in that it was draining the batteries with a day or two. I reported that to SecuRam and they immediately sent me a brand new lock with a return label for the first one. The second one is working ever since without any issue and I am very happy to have gone this route!

    Hey Wayne what are your thoughts on the securam xtreme 2 yrs later? I'm wanting to put one on a browning medallion safe. Any issues to report?

    Hey, Wayne. I got a quote on one of these, and making my decision over this weekend. Is this lock till recommended?

      Yes it's still good so far. The installation is pretty long though so plan for that.

    This is showing that it is only available in a swing bolt. Would this work as a replacement for a standard bolt release?

    • @waynewinton
      @waynewinton  Před 9 lety

      As long at the bolt work moves in the direction of the swing bolt. Most newer safes should be compatable.

      Why not just get safe with back up key to the electronic lock to prevent expense for this lock?

      If you can get into your "safe" with a key, it's not a safe.

  • @HifiCentret
    @HifiCentret Před 8 lety

    Why do everybody tell you can change the code yourself on the electronic implying that you can't on a mechanical?
    It's not much different changing code on the mechanical than dialing it except that for better reliability dial it spot on while dialing it for opening +/- half a number normally isn't an issue.
    Unless you really screwed up changing combination but didn't try it out afterwards with open door it shouldn't be a catastrophe if changing it not spot on the markers. Just try dialing code a little of and it'll open in a few tries - then properly change the combination ;)

    • @waynewinton
      @waynewinton  Před 8 lety +1

      Beacuse the truth is...... most people can't follow directions 😉

    • @HifiCentret
      @HifiCentret Před 8 lety

      +Wayne Winton Is it really that bad? I just wonder. Because it seems some sellers wont even give you the change key though it's most likely on the package from manufacturer or with the lock if they change the lock. Wonder when my safe arrives. One should think a few words about being careful should be enough :O
      I ordered the variety with mechanical as I like the retro aspect and for a safe that's opened once every second week at max I don't need the speed of the electronics. But I really wonder if they give me the change key. If the lock is what I think it'll be I'll already have one but I'll sure be annoyed if they don't and require them to deliver me one (w/o charge). While I've no doubt supplier is trustable I don't want anybody outside a few famili members to know the combination.

    • @waynewinton
      @waynewinton  Před 8 lety

      +HifiCentret sellers don't send them beacuse people try to change the combination themselves and screw it up, then try and claim the safe is bad or defective even though it's there own fault, they never admit it beacuse they know they did something wrong. I've see it a million times. You may feel comfortable doing it and successful but 8 out of 10 people who do it themselves will have at least one error in the process.

    • @HifiCentret
      @HifiCentret Před 8 lety

      While i don't have my safe yet I've changed combination on S&G 8077 and 8065 with no issues. Not hard at all. Wonder why a sticker over change hole shouldn't be enough. "RTFM!! Change combination at own risk - verify with open door!!". Sure some properly will screw up but 8 out of 10 sounds extremely high. Disturbing if that's a sign of IQ for the future of the general public... But hey always happy to help getting it back to in order - but sticker is gone/tempered with so it's a paid job by normal rate - not a warranty issue.

    • @waynewinton
      @waynewinton  Před 8 lety +1

      It is what it is. You read social media comments...... Thoes people are trying to change there own combinations. Food for thought

  • @TripleWhopperWithCheese

    Wish I would have seen this before I wasted $175 on a junky mechanical S&G lock.
