From the creative minds behind the Toy Story films and Ratatouille comes this hilarious, action-packed animated adventure about a seemingly ordinary family with an incredible secret. Known to the world as superheroes Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl, Bob Parr and his wife Helen were among the world's greatest crime fighters, saving lives and battling evil on a daily basis. Fifteen years later, they have been forced to adopt civilian identities and retreat to the suburbs to live "normal" lives with their three kids, Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack. Itching to get back into action, Bob gets his chance when a mysterious communication summons him to a remote island for a top secret assignment. He soon discovers that it will take a super family effort to rescue the world from total destruction.

I read a theory somewhere that described their abilities pretty perfectly with their roles in the family. Mr Incredible is the strong protector. Elastigirl is the mom stretching herself in all directions do raise and support her family. Violet is a teenager that feels invisible and puts up barriers. Dash is a bundle of limitless little kid energy. Jack Jack is unlimited potential (Jack of all trades) since he's just a baby.

One of the reasons this movie is so good is that the danger is legitimate to the characters. The villain actually does not care about their lives. He fires missiles at a plane and upon learning there are children on board shrugs it off with a dark quip about working alone. Numerous times the characters were very really about to die. Brad Bird is an absolute genius director.

While I am not saying i agree with the superhero ban, when you think about the opening scene, it sort of made sense. First he forcefully stopped a guy suicide (which isn't necessary bad). But then he engaged with Bomb Voyage. Bomb Voyage was robbing an empty building - so aside from theft and property damage, there was no casualty. But his and Incredi-Boy's intervention caused the bomb to land on the train tracks, which in turn exploded and Bomb Voyage escaped. Consider the medical bills and all the direct and indirect cost involved in repairing public transportation, the government have to fork out more money compared to if the building got robbed by Bomb Voyage (which should be privately insured). Basically, superhero acts outside the rule of law (vigilantes) which made it harder for the government to monitor, contain and manage damages when in pursuit of criminals.

What I love most is that the family’s powers are reflections of how they feel and their roles in the family itself. The dad feels like he needs to always be the strong one. The mom is always pulled in a million directions. The daughter is so shy that she just wants to disappear. And the son is hyperactive and can’t be caught.

Fun fact there is a theory that the first omnidroid with the blue eye was actually originally intended to fight Frozone and not Mr Incredible since it was able to survive lava and Frozone can’t use his powers in hot environments so Frozone wouldn’t be able to use his powers and lose easily, that and when mirage talks to Syndrome when in the car she says "I see the target and the big idiot is with him" so the first omnidroid was designed to beat Frozone hence why it lost. And then of course Syndrome created a newer version specifically designed to beat Mr Incredible.

    Fun fact:
    1) The bad guy (buddy) it's believe he has no super powers but actually he does. With him being so young making the technology, gadgets, and weapons like he does if you think about it he actually has super intelligence. If both parents have super powers their kid will get a combination of their powers so if you go back and look the first two supers you see are a man and a women who are actually his parents. They are two of the most intelligent supers on the list and to add to it some of the supers formed groups with his mom and dad joining the same group. The location of their secret hide out is quote "an unknown island in the Ocean"... Sound familiar¿ The island buddy uses is the island his parents super group used as a secret hide out which is how he knew about the super computer and the island. His parents where the first two heros he ever killed, starting with his dad then his mom.
    2) Honey is actually frozone's wife's real name, it's not a pet name. In the beginning elastigirl says "Say hello to honey for me" as Mr Incredible and Frozone are leaving before they save

Super strength and super speed don't always go hand in hand. The amount of force your muscles can contract with (strength) and the speed at which they contract are actually separate properties. So, while someone who's super strong would be able to cover more distance with each step, making them slightly faster, the speed of each step wouldn't necessarily be any faster.

Good Samaritan laws have been passed over the years. It used to be you could be sued for saving someone and it did happen- people who didn’t want to be saved or were injured while being saved, especially by average citizens with limited knowledge how to do so. It has/had the effect of people letting other people die for fear of being sued when they could have saved them. Good Samaritan laws protect average citizens from being sued if they attempt to save someone in good faith even if the attempt led to unintended injury (unless the victim made it clear that they do not wished to be saved).

Edna "E" Mode is voiced by director Brad Bird. Originally, he intended just to do a scratch voice (like he did for Bob and Syndrome before Craig T Nelson and Jason Lee were casted) and Lily Tomlin were called for audition. When she heard Brad's scratch voice for Edna, she said "What do you need me for? You already got her!" so Bird used himself as Edna Mode. It's incredible that a man can make sound like a woman without making it obviously fake but then again so did Bob Peterson for Roz and you'd take for granted it was an old lady voicing her.

  • @Imfarias1

super strength would not automatically equal super speed. They're reliant on two different kind of muscles and nerve reflex speed. The Hulk does run faster than a normal human of his size (if there were any) but nothing compared to even an average speedster. That's why he leaps everywhere - something super strength would absolutely allow you to do if you don't care what happens to the area you land on - instead of running.

I actually watched all of the special features on the DVDs, and Mr. Incredible is incredibly (ha, ha) invulnerable. His skin is so strong that he once tried to use a knife on a steak at a cookout and he accidentally placed it directly over his fingers, damaging the knife AROUND his fingers. Of course, everybody thought he had cut off his fingers, so he had to pretend to be in pain and "go to the hospital". Really cool looking at all of the supers' super-stats as well.
There's actually a fan-theory that an island of unknown locale which is mentioned in the special features is the same island in this movie. That island was used by four supers, and it's theorized that one or two of them are the parents of Buddy (Syndrome), and that he actually has super-intelligence. I don't know about this part, but the theory also goes that Buddy possibly has down's-syndrome, which may have prevented his super-intelligence from developing fully (leading his parents to believe he wasn't born with powers). The theory posits that this is why his name is Syndrome. I doubt it, but it's a cool theory. That being said, some of the first supers that he killed were the supers believed to be his parents. It also explains at least one way he could have discovered or known of the island's existence, if it IS the same island.

Funny that you point out the excellent voice acting- the actress for Violet isn’t even an actor by trade. If I remember right she’s some kind of scientist or teacher and the director heard her voice on a podcast and just thought it was perfect and got in contact with her. He’s not wrong, though! Her voice is really distinctive and any “awkwardness” in her delivery just suits the insecure teenager she’s playing.

Super strength and jumping ability. Like the Hulk. Well, that's one variant, because the Hulk is all about muscle mass. But Mr. I is under the limitation of being incredibly out of shape just at the moment, so his powers are somewhat below peak.
