Hero's comment, "She's alive in there; someone has to help," splendidly echoes Tadashi's last words to Hero before he ran inside the burning school to save Callahan. Only now, Hero chooses, like this brother before him, to save Callahan's daughter, Abigail. Things really have come full circle, and Hero has matured into a person like Tadashi; he has become a leader, not by hustling bot fights, but by using his brilliant mind to help others. Here is where we see the greatest impact left on Hero, by the loss of his parents, and by learning from his brother, even when Tadashi is no longer there in person.

There is a big hero 6 manga where it goes into details that Hiro and Tadashi's parents died in a car accident. It also goes into detail that Callaghan had a wife named Sarah who passed away when their daughter Abigail was still very young leaving him to take care of her on his own. In some deleted scenes of the movie, it's shown that Hiro was very smart even by the age of 3 being able to finish some projects Tadashi had trouble with and even going as far as skipping a bunch of grades hence why he was able to graduate from highschool at 13 so the fact that he was able to come up with something as mind-blowing as the microbots doesn't surprise me.

I remember around the time this came out fans were trying to piece together a way for Tadashi to still be alive for a sequel. The main way was by retconning him in as one of several fire themed Marvel characters, since this is technically a Marvel property. I always joked that it would be hard for that to happen because of the way they did his funeral. When this came out, if a character died and had a funeral on a rainy day in the MCU or Sony Marvel properties they were dead dead. The MCU has diverted from that trope in the last six or seven years.

We could say it's half fictional.
Based on the concept arts from the creators, San Fransokyo was once San Francisco but at the beginning of 1900 an eartshake happened and destroyed more than half of the city.
Since in that period Japan was trying to open its borders and "socialize" with the world, Japanese offer their help and knowlegde in buildings that can resist earthshakes to rebuild San Francisco. The people there were so grateful that after WW2 they offered their city as a place were Japanese immigrants could stay and create a new home and renamed San Francisco in San Fransokyo as a symbol of peace and union between the two Nations.

The name of San Fransokiyo city was on the sign in the opening. The idea behind it was San Francisco got destroyed (I don't remember how), and Japan helped to rebuild it, so the city was renamed once it was rebuilt as a tribute to how the city was made better than ever through a combination of Japanese and American architecture.
I don't think there were any people in the building because it was just being opened up.
I think Fred knew how to do that because it was established that he was a school mascot. We even see him doing some sign spinning stuff in his introduction. "School mascot by day. But by night...(insert sign spinning bit here)...I am also a school mascot."

JV you should watch Treasure Planet. Released early 2000s, the last hand drawn animation movie that disney made. An IMMENSELY underrated movie. The movie was the dream project of the two directors. Disney intentionally set it up to fail at the box office but it is the greatest disney movie of all time

Big Hero 6 was a Marvel comic and it was a sort of Japanese equivalent of the Avengers. Hiro is the one character most like his comic book version. There is a 3 seasons tv series sequel and an upcoming Baymax series. Also manga.

So i know this is a year late but it's been 2 years since I've been able to see anything from this movie because of my younger cousin dying at 19 from cancer and we used to do the fist bump from this movie. I unfortunately know exactly how Hero felt and the unfairness of it all. The combination of sadness and peace I feel hearing the "Tadashi is here" part will always make me cry. This movie is beautiful and it absolutely deserves a sequel.
